  • Have you heard of Pasticciotto? Neither had we.. But you should know NOT to miss it!
    Lecce is famous for "la pietra leccese" - a kind of limestone which is extremely soft and workable. Thus, it's home to some beautiful historical structures such as the Basilica di Santa Croce, the Porta Napoli and the Duomo. It's also known for its papier mâché ("cartapesta") which was originally used for creating religious statues that were lighter to carry for festivals.

    As you mentioned how busy the city became after dusk with everyone walking around...I thought that there was a special Italian word...then you displayed "passeggiato" and I laughed out loud. Awesome pastry reviews. Keep up the great work enjoying your travels (I'm binge watching so I'm all over the place in your timeline). Brisbane QLD

    Ostuni-Gallipoli-Monopoli-Polignano a Mare-Fasano-Lecce-Brindisi is my favourite triangle in puglia. Beautiful beaches, great food and drinks all provided by people that know how to live very close to heaven, while firmly rooted to their home soil.

      Absolutely agree. It's a wonderful area and the only area for we have ever entertained the idea of getting a home base.

    My husband and I loved your series on Salento Italy. You went to some of our absolute favourite destinations! Castro, Lecce, Otranto and all of the beaches. Our top fav towns of Puglia also include Tricase Porto, Nardo, Specchia and we are so glad ypu discovered tarelli and the wonderful pasticiotto (especially Martinucci,s).
    Keep the fantastic travel dreams alive and thanks for making and sharing such informative and enjoyable series.❤

    Great video thank you for posting. I had my hopes up for the Opera Lounge pasteries however Google Maps reports it Permantely Closed. We have 2 nights in Lecce 4-30 to 5-2 2024. For sure there are lots of others and I will be looking for Pizzo too. Good tip to be cautious about the Olive Pits in the Pizzo. I understand that the authentic Focaccia de Bari also has the pits in the olives. If you ever make it to the state of Sonora in northern Mexico some of their Tamales include an olive with the pit in it also. Con Cuidado! 🙂

      @@WeWillNomad I'm not at all envious.... Lecce is definitely one of the towns that we will try and visit. I'd never heard of it until your video. It just goes to show how many amazing towns there are in Europe to discover. It kind of reminds me of Bruge in Belgium, in the way that each building is mind-blowingly beautiful, so after a while, amazing architecture becomes the norm. Not sure if you have been to Bruge, if not I'd recommend it. If as it seems you appreciate wonderful architecture. I love the bright colour of the stones in the buildings in Lecce, I think this also adds to the overall light/bright affect of the town. The food.....I was hungry just watching you in this video. What I don't get though is how come everyone looks so fit and healthy with all of these scrumptious pastries on offer. I'm looking forward to seeing where you venture to next, after the heel !

    • @WeWillNomad
      @WeWillNomad  Před rokem

      Firstly.. fit and healthy? 😂 Not so sure about that. That said, people in Italy do tend to walk more than average. But so many temptations.. Salento in general is great and all over Puglia we keep finding proper gems. Well worth a visit. Actually we did a short detour via Belgium earlier this year and visited Bruge. Gorgeous place. The chocolate situation is out of control there though, and we had to leave in haste 😂😋

    • @WeWillNomad
      @WeWillNomad  Před rokem +1

      A pasticciotto is a type of filled Italian pastry - made with short-crust pastry and depending on the region, filled with either ricotta cheese or custard. The one you are referring to is a specialty of the bakery and made with almonds and filled with egg custard.
