I thought Callum might have been more motivated to become a paramedic rather than a policeman if he was inspired by the shooting. Also he knows that Ben isn't 100% honest, so he should foresee a conflict of interest. Also in soaps (and given the way Callum has been described against his will as a hero, ) there is always the temptation to kill off a policeman during a heroic act. I hope they drop this idea quickly, it seems to have been welded on to create unnecessary angst.
