      thresh86 as an SV owner.. sv will lose. I agree with Laura when she says it's a poor attempt at the modern retro

    • @thresh86
      @thresh86 Před 6 lety +2

      It's not exactly a soccer match :D I think that both of them are not exactly Bonneville material but that's what you're gonna get if you take a good modern all around bike and put some 70's touches.
      It's hard to fault a bike like an SV650 if you're interested in this category but I respect your opinion.

    • @IanOcampoPodRider2016

      thresh86 i think I replied to someone else about this. The SV650x is not that different from a normal sv, just has adjustable suspension, clip ons, a bikini fairing, small screen and a better looking seat.
      Meanwhile the xsr has quite a big aesthetic change, even the dash is different. Theyre quite distinguishable from each other that you wouldnt think theyre related

    • @thresh86
      @thresh86 Před 6 lety

      I don't think that a cheap headlight and the remove of some cover could really differentiate it like Suzuki does with the SV , by having a new fairing, color, small screen,vintage seat, clip on and the possibility of adding LED signals , fog lights and Yoshi cover. Still, the test could be better by having these two than the bikes mentioned before.

      As a mentalist I can earnestly say that Ian does not own an SV... If he did it would put him in the 2% of the world's population who actually are boastful about his or her's poor decisions making. Especially when making a purchase. Most will replace the bike with the one they really want and then rag that which they had. On the other end of the scale someone who can't get out of their particular purchase for whatever reason might choose to justify why the other vehicle is better by throwing all sorts of characteristics into the mix. That's how the subconscious obtains what it actually wants.

    i'd take the v-twin any day. Also the sv has great fuel efficiency (twin spark), reliability (v-strom legend) and the take off assist is great in heavy traffic (minimal clutch effort, 2nd butterfly valve opens to stop stalling). I commute so my preference is obvious. Also the x version has preload front and rear. Thats my 2 cents worth. Thanks for the review.

    I own a 2017 SV and have recently ridden the 2017 MT-07 for 3 days, for many hours each day, to see why many reviewers say it is better than the SV. I had to find out for myself. I can now say with certainty that the SV is a much better bike. I did NOT prefer the MT's engine. Yes, it feels like it has slightly more torque, but at too low a rev which makes the bike feel unnecessarily jerky when you're just trying to go slow or be smooth. The seat is horribly hard and makes you slide into the tank. (The 2018 MT seat at least looks flatter than the 2017 MT seat.) The mirrors are absolutely useless. The front end handling is too light and the bike moves around too much at low speeds, such as when you're in stop and go traffic. The SV is just a more refined bike overall in handling, power delivery, comfort, and build quality. I'm so happy I didn't buy the MT. I don't know about the 2018 MT. But based on my experience with the 2017 model, I would definitely choose a 2018 non-X SV over a 2018 MT. (I don't care for the low handlebars on the SV650X.)

      I bought an SV650a but before I bought it I rented an MT-07 for a day. Although as you say it feel quicker, it's got more cc's and is quite a bit lighter, I didn't like the MT. It crunched into first gear from neutral and the fan cut in at every traffic light. The SV is a beautiful all round machine with that great V-twin engine. The SV is quick, frugal, ultra reliable, and it looks like a motorbike.

    • @carlosg299
      @carlosg299 Před 6 lety +10

      Some prefer the "jerky", aggressive engine, and modern looks of the MT07. Others will prefer the smooth, classy looks of the SV650. I tried them both 2 months ago, loved them both, but ended up choosing the MT07 because it suited more my "style". It all comes down to personal preference! :)

    • @organichotdog3807
      @organichotdog3807 Před 6 lety +7

      Carlos, I was really surprised after riding the MT-07. I thought either the other reviewers who preferred the MT didn't spend as much time riding the bike as I did to notice all the annoyances, or these things didn't bother them, or a little of both. But regardless, you are absolutely correct about personal preference. After this experience, I always keep that in mind when reading or watching motorcycle reviews. I won't be in the market for another bike any time soon. But when I am, I will definitely not buy a bike based on the review of others. I got lucky this time because I prefer the SV. Next time, I will find a way to test ride the bike beforehand (which is not easy to do in America, unless it's a Harley).

    I think Laura is trying to hard to be young and cool and give a controversial opinion! Read an article from 44teeth that call the sv650 the best bike ever built. While I agree that's a bit of a stretch. The sv650 is a belting bike! How can it not be when it's still competitive now all these years on. And it's engine is brilliant. And although it may not have the advancements in suspension and brakes it still handles a dam sight better when pushing on. If you after a bike to look cool on to your mates then get the Mt. If you actually like riding a bike and want to push on or do the odd track day get the sv and discover why people rave about it and it had its own race series (that's not pretending Laura, it had its own race series how can that be pretend??!!)

      @IanOcampoPodRider2016 Před 6 lety

      The x isnt that much different to the non x version tbh. It's not like it has improved suspension (although it is adjustable now). It's just a normal SV with clipons, a bikini fairing and a small screen and a better looking seat

    • @gardenstateflatlandb
      @gardenstateflatlandb Před 5 lety

      I agree. The X version has lower bars and makes you reach forward a bit farther than the standard SV...a position the SV has never been about. The standard SV would've put the test riders in a more similar upright riding position and made the comparison a bit more even to judge(position and handling wise). Afterall, the SV was built and tested with the higher bars and upright seating position. The X version was obviously just thrown out to try and appeal to the hipster crowd...cafe style.
      Anyway, looks are important, but we all know there's a lot more to a bike than looks. The SV has survived all these years because of this. I will say Suzuki could've tried a little harder in the styling dept tho. That hideous swing arm, and completely awful looking pipe and oil filter protruding out the front all willy nilly...its a shame.
