- Recorded on 23 April 1979 in London for ITV's 'Kenny Everett VIdeo Show'.
Bowie performs a newly recorded vocal of this track. Check out his white nail polish (which I never noticed before).
This was shown on a TV tribute to Bowie earlier this year. I've cropped out the channel logos but otherwise left it untouched.

Enjoy. - Hudba
Great thing about Bowie performing during that period was his facial expressions. Always the actor while performing.
Mike Hamblen
He was very visual. I could watch him all day.
Absolutely
He use to make pantomine
1979
He sure studied and learned his moves. It is somewhat scary how similar this performance is to the official video. Meaning it is a practiced act to every second.
Fantastic ! I feel a bit alone without him on earth.
same here.......
and it get worse day after day... :(
RIP Bowie 1947-2016
Eric Chaumont - Me too. But now there's a Bowie waiting in the sky...
Maybe he's just waiting to LAND on one of those seven EXO-PLANETS that were discovered on February 22nd!!!... Incredible how something of that MAGNITUDE happens on my Feb-orite month that SADLY is almost over....***bummer***
who else could do a dancemove like that with the leg and still look cool?
Newcastle lol, meatloaf? I was thinking about the crap you'd hang on someone if you caught them dancing like that, JUST BEFORE I read your comment! But Bowie? Yep, perfectly cool...
+baddvd L.O.L!!!!!!
Always dancing in our memories RIP Bowie 1947-2016
I wonder if in retrospect he wouldn't have done that particular move then. He was still trying to live down that entire pro-fascism flap his Thin White Duke alter ego got him into. And what's even more ironic was that "Lodger," the album this came off of, was the last album in his Berlin trilogy.
Is there such a word as "cocksure"? This whole video shines with it. David sure could pull off neat moves !!
There is something so satisfying about this video, I could seriously watch this all day.
Then again, it's Bowie, time well spent.
Jana Velickovic I could watch Bowie all day every day
Absolutely!!!
1978
Only David Bowie can make jazz hands look cool asf
Does asf stand for as if? LOL 😆. Great dance moves.... love love DB😘💕
@@headbangingmama8907 stands for as fuck
1978
Shoulda seen his dancing in that one video with jagger LOL. Love him regardless❤️🩹
I challenge anyone to make lyrics like "you can buy a home of your own, learn to drive and everything" sound as rock n roll as this!
I love those those moments in his songs- so Bowie! The little jokes/naive bits and irony. Even in his earliest lyrics such as “I’m so much in love, like a little soldier, catching butterflies...” from The Heat of the Morning.
I have barely listened to Bowie's music (Let's Dance is pretty dope tho), I just randomly found this, but I absolutely love everything about this clip. He's like some uncle taking over a karaoke bar after some shots of tequila here, but in the most aesthetic way possible. 😃
"He's like some uncle taking over a karaoke bar after some shots of tequila". That's kind of like the spirit he was aiming to convey - of completely misplaced confidence. The way he uses irony in his body language as well as his lyrics and music here is just so brilliant.
Heaven loves ya
The clouds part for ya
Nothing stands in your way
When you're a boy
Clothes always fit ya
Life is a pop of the cherry
When you're a boy
When you're a boy
You can wear a uniform
When you're a boy
Other boys check you out
You get a girl
These are your favorite things
When you're a boy
Boys
Boys
Boys keep swinging
Boys always work it out
Uncage the colors
Unfurl the flag
Luck just kissed you hello
When you're a boy
They'll never clone ya
You're always first on the line
When you're a boy
When you're a boy
You can buy a home of your own
When you're a boy
Learn to drive and everything
You'll get your share
When you're a boy
Boys
Boys
Boys keep swinging
Boys always work it out
So amazing to watch. So charismatic. I love the mannerisms and his beautiful smile. His voice was unique. - very rich and husky baritone. He could have sung a shopping list and you would recognise him immediately.
OMG his fierce tongue-in-cheek swagger is a howl. Gotta love the low-techness of that era. A great archival gem, thanks for posting!
cheers!
Ineffable Oracular broken-hearted!
That wasn't tongue in cheek, that's how cool he was ;) . Regardless of musical tastes, the one thing that you can't deny is just how cool the man was.
Agreed.
1977
I love this man....what a genius.
he was the greatest singer in the world
All my BELOVED bands from the 80's that could NOT even fucking FATHOM their EXISTENCE as "artists" had it not been because of THE MASTER himself and his MIND-BOGGLING IMPACT/ INFLUENCE on them!!!... I look at Richard Butler and those baggy outfits he was so fond of wearing during the 80's and automatically know the "source" from he got that fashion "idea"!!!... Richard's "movements", "mannerisms", "singing voice" fucking SCREAM out Bowie!!!... And I ADORE Richard Butler & The Psychedelic Furs because of it!!!... I see David Sylvian/ Peter Murphy/ Daniel Ash /Gary Numan and PLENTY of others who modeled themselves after such a MUSIC GENIUS!!!... They were all planets orbiting the BOWIEVERSE!!!...
Yours is a very long name
It would've been even LONGER if fucking You Tube didn't have a word LIMIT!!!...
David Bowie authored “Boys Keep Swinging” (1979) with his guitarist in mind. He told Adraian Belew : “This is written after you, in the spirit of you.”
The video shows him performing the tune while walking a runway in drag, even smearing his lipstick across his mouth.
In 2000, Bowie spoke about the song and the clip : “I do not feel that there is anything remotely glorious about being either male or female. I was merely playing on the idea of the COLONIZATION OF GENDER.” 💙💄💚
Always loved, never forgotten, forever missed will you remain, David Robert Jones, a.k.a. David Bowie (1947 - 2016)… 🌹
TOTAL BS. Written by a ridiculous fanboy. Bowie did not even know Adrian Belew in 1979. Your post is the epitome of a serious problem in 2023: INTERNET MISINFORMATION..
@@Themanwhocameback2Didn't know Adrian Belew in 1979? That's interesting since Belew played guitar in his band for his world tour in 1978 and played guitar on Lodger from 1979.
@@Themanwhocameback2How dare you to write such a nonsense
ah when you could smoke on tv , great song
Lol
seriously. when you could smoke period. Now you can't even smoke outside!
@@oliveeisner8964 Because not everyone wants carcinogenic second-hand smoke.
Hey I don't like ciggy smoke either man. It's worse when you're an ex-smoker or pregnant. BUT... when people can't light up a cigarette walking down the sidewalk, that's taking things too far imo. It's part of the toxic grievance culture. Someone/anyone complains and something gets ruined for everyone. There should be places where people can smoke. Bars or restaurants should be able to decide if they will allow smoking or not. If an individual doesn't like it, then they can choose to NOT GO THERE and go to a smoke free zone. But they've gone nuts banning.
@@oliveeisner8964 I think that they should prevent smoking for the new generation, so that when the old generations pass it is virtually non existant. The smokers are not a priority, they are a minority.
Irreplaceable genius Bowie the best he was and still is THE BEST
Whew 😅! That Bowie know he is FINE!
The one and only David Bowie!!!
RIP 1947-2016
1977
So much charisma! David's the best! 😄
AAA THE NAIL POLISH I DIDNT NOTICE UNTIL I READ THE DESC i screamed

Coolest man to ever set foot on our little planet..❤️❤️
Thanks for sharing this. I've included it in my BKS at 40 write up stevepafford.com/bks40/
When I was high school student, This age is very dangerous so This song helped me not confuse for future and good old.
Charisma is absolutely off the charts.
Certainly one of my fav bowie video that makes my day every time
How can we ever forget the meaning of `Kool` i remember seeing this on K.E. V. Show,- D.B had been around a long time -being the man, even back then!
So much Charisma.
It’s an impossibility to be any cooler!
Pure David Bowie nobody does it better than the man himself class remember the tv show
Magical David....you are a little wonder....love forever
Brilliant!
Magician. Master. Genious.
that bass line always kills me
Dances like Presley. Whatta Capicorn he was.
Great touch reversing footage of him tossing violin. The guitar outro always nails IT.
Both Capricorns born on the same day too!
DB's look was a massive influence on both male and female nightclubbers, especially
in London from 1979 - 81. Remember seeing this clip on The Kenny Everett Show at the time.
Anybody who went to the Blitz Club in Covent Garden or Studio 21, just off Tottenham Court Road will know what I'm talking about. You had to look the part if you wanted to
get in, but the people looked great and so was the music. At the top of the tree was
Bowie though. He was closely followed by Ig's "Nightclubbing",early Ultravox (John Foxx period), Human League, Japan, Magazine etc.
Those were the days.....
Talent, charisma, beauty
#unique
I miss my David
Wonderful, brilliant cockey performance. Love the words and chords, great to learn from him.
I remember watching this when it originally aired. I used to have a pair of these fabulous trousers. Anyone know where I could get a pair now? Loved the white pair he wore in Dallas in 1978 and Earl's Court the same (?) year as well. I bought my pair from Carnaby street via a mail order ad in the back of either the NME or Melody Maker. 20 pleats if I remember correctly! I ruled!
Look on ebay..they remind me of those cool baggy trousers with slim ankles/slim waist from Fiorucci's in nyc circa '78-80
I still have these in my closet today.
Fantastic Bowie
beautiful.
A beautiful man!!
Omg, wasn’t he so beautiful! ❤
Insanely fabulous video. Amazing live vocal. Or at least, it looks live. Thank you so much for posting.

Splendido video! e che qualità straordinaria! sembra recente 😍 sono estasiata. Magnifico Bowie ❤️ Grazie per averlo condiviso.
You're welcome : )
The picture is pristine! Well, as pristine as 480p can be, anyway! Thank you. It's too bad that the gag that David and Kenny do afterwards isn't here.
"I fought in the War for men like you... and I never got one!"

Confident young man.
Knows what he's about.
1979 haunts me
Bellissimo! 😍
mr.Bowie ,never looked better .
perfect
I had forgotten about first seeing this he got I little backlash I think from the Daily Mail and BBC Points of view about being a black shirt goose-stepping Bowie. Thanks for posting great vocals
I’m surprised the Daily Mail took issue with any of that
that creepy transition from 70's to 80's...
Anna Stesia it's basically that awkward puberty phase.
The late 70s and early 80s kind of blurred into each other. The 80s musically began around 1977 (New wave electronic era)
Lindo, meu anjo!!!
Holy shit, that was amazing.
cette video est érotique et la chanson géniaaaale !
he is so cool what
j'adore j'adore
"Boy" was a hot word back then.
Fook me!!! Not seen this in years. I'm a very happy bunny now i have :)
I love you David¡¡
He did a really cool version of this song on SNL back in the 70's.
Somethings he did are so funny - love the leg tapping to the beat - I like the original but now I'm torn between that and this - fantastic!
