⭐ Q&A LIST BELOW:
💧 More info on the pigments?
🌿 these pigments are an exclusive collaboration between Choosing Keeping and a lovely pigment store called Saiun-do in Japan. I've talked about these pigments more extensively in my other recent videos as well.
💧Gloves & Respirator?
🌿 YES. I should 100000% be wearing gloves and a mask. If I wasn't filming I would have. However, the last time I wore gloves in a paintmaking video, the sound of the gloves were unpleasant to listen to to many people. I decided for the sake of the video to omit them. However, yes. Gloves are very necessary especially if you are not working with pigments specifically made for Nihonga paintings.
💧 Why add honey?
🌿 this step is optional but i prefer to add it since it gives the paints a nice texture. it will also preserve moisture.
💧 Filming Equipment?
🌿 Camera: Sony A7rII
Lens: Sony - FE 24-105mm F4 G
Mic: Rode Video Mic
Tripod: Slik Pro 500 DX
💧 Why don't the pigments fit back in after crushing them?
🌿 (Someone more knowledgeable, please correct me if I'm wrong) I'm assuming it's because the pigments were much more compact before being crushed. In its "rock" form, the powder is super compressed and tight which allows it to fit into the vials.
💧 Why make handmade paints rather than buying ones at the store?
🌿 It's kind of like cooking your own food. There are delicious meals you can buy from restaurants but food made from home is a different kind of delicious.
Any other questions?
💧

The crunch when the pigments are crushed is divine. I could listen to it for hours.

The best sounds are the initial crunch of the pigments and the mulling of glass on glass. So relaxing.
Yes! I so agree! The first time I heard that crunch, I said, "AAhhhhhhhhh". That was really nice!
That first red for some reason reminded me of the term "chocolate blood" as if chocolate and blood were mixed. Such a lovely deep color.
Makes me think of a dark red velvet kind of color it’s absolutely beautiful
I can’t tell if I want to eat it or call the cops!

I'm a couple of years late to the party, but this was as close to the perfect video as you can get! I loved everything about it! From the camera work (angles and quality) to the audio to the sound track selection... It was so immersive and unbelievably enjoyable to watch! I feel the need to pick up a paintbrush more than ever!!
Dear Pearfleur,
The golden yellow, looks and sounds like honeycomb, we have a chocolate bar here called Crunchie or Violet Crumble, that colour, that sound with chocolate wrapped around it. Violet Crumble is the best.
Thanks for ASMR, really need it now. :)

PS I collect watercolours that are handmade from all over the world, your video makes me want to mull my own pigments. I just looked up the pigment shop in Japan.
However, last week I got paint everywhere, just putting "tube paint into pans", and I said to myself, "I may like collecting colours, but it is very fiddly, messy and annoying to pour paint (let alone make it), thanks Pearfleur for showing us the romance, with no clean up! I take my hat off, and salute you, and anyone who makes their own....
cool
I could never be trusted with pure pigments. Nope. They would be everywhere within 47 seconds.
violet crumbles are indeed the best candy bar
Ah, I don't want to be rude, but I really hope the location isn't real because that is personal information that probably shouldn't be on the internet where a billion variety of people are on.
Not to sound rude or anything, but you shouldn't share personal information on line. What the you put a location and a name! People could find you in real life.
Watching this video made me realize that there is actually a lot of similarities between making paint and chocolate
Oh hey! Choco-
Chokelate.
yes
@someone on their school acc for sure
♡.♡
This is why we sometimes want to eat paint :D
When the pigments are in flakes, the particles are stuck together, leaving little to no space among them. When crushed, there is space between each small pigment dust. So, even though it seems like space between flakes is diminished after crushing, the total space among the pigment dust actually increases :)
Edit: if you slightly tap the bottom of the container or tap it on the table, the pigment dust will sit denser and most likely you can still fit the whole thing in the tube!
Great video as always, thank you for such enjoyable content :D
Neat ! I was actually wondering about this so thanks for the explanation :)
Thank you for that explanation. That was bothering me.

honestly this would be my ideal job in an ideal world where endless effeciency and production isn't expected out of everybody
it would literally heal my soul to get paid to hand mull and shape people's premium paints because they want a certain amount of love and care put into it.
This is my first time seeing your videos, but I already know that I'll be falling asleep to them from now on. I feel so relaxed, it's unreal.
Was AMAZED at how this turned out given how it started. Gorgeous.
This video was wonderful. It immediately took me out of my anxiety and calmed me down with ease. Thank you for this beautiful video.♡
P.S ~ I adore the little chubby paint froggy at the end. He was very precious. :)
I absolutely adore these videos. The sound of the grinding in particular is excellent- I'm always saddened by how short the relative grinding time is. Is there any way you would consider releasing a "mega-edit" of nothing but the grinding portion, uncut or only very lightly edited? It'd make its way onto my favorites list in a heartbeat, so many happy tingles!
♡
petition for this to happen it’s been almost a year
Apothecary vibes, do the paints have healing properties or what??
Anyway those colors are beautiful, the video so relaxing and your editing a goddamn masterpiece ❤️❤️❤️
Maybe not healing but maybe seeing your favorite colour/color can brighten up your mood:)
I mean some pigments are really bad to eat but it all depends on what the company uses
It's called color theory. Also you see it done in marketing, the uses of color as a tool to capture the outcome they are going for their intended audience/consumers. Like red and yellow in fastfood places these colors may make ppl hungry or impulsive, and blue and green for health brands and make the brand seem calm or soft.

You think there were over 20 commercials on purpose? Or CZcams? Thats really way too many. But also, that red, just beautiful.
I reloaded the video and there's none now. Probably a CZcams error.
Nevermind, they appeared again 😔
you can use BRAVE so it blocks ads
I think the channel decides how many ads
@@raenandlal5893 CZcams regularly changes ad rules at a whim, and sometimes overrule the channel settings, from what I've heard. If a channel usually has a non-abrasive amount of ads (like this one) and all of a sudden there's an insane amount in one video, it's usually a rotten CZcams thing ime, and not the channel's fault.
Everything about this is so soothing for the soul.

This video is incredible and amazing. I cannot emphasize how much I love this video. I REALLY appreciate how you showed step by step making the pigments, getting them ready, and making the paint. Especially for watercolor paint because there's a couple more steps to making watercolor paint than with oil paint. Oil paint is literally just a plant based drying oil and the pigment and there you go! I really appreciated how you showed the use of honey, Gum Arabic as the binding agent, and the water as well as the natural preservative. And I REALLY loved the paint afterwards. It didn't feel like a speedpaint. I felt like I got to actually enjoy every single step of your painting process and the painting after was so beautiful. What a rewarding video every step of the way. Good job!
The information in the description makes all this even better and its already incredible, im already so obsessed with my painting materials and process this has has sent me over the edge i just need to figure out if i can make acrilic paints like this and then its go time!!
