I really liked this video as well as the phone comparisons between Gabb, Troomi, and Pinwheel. I'd like to see a video where you talk directly to kids age 8-9-10-ish and parents about the expectations of getting a first phone. It would have the same information as this and other videos, but aimed at children as a jumping off point to start that dialogue BEFORE getting that first phone. For example, I could start with "I know you want a phone, but let's watch this short video first and then we can discuss what we think we're ready for."

Hi, thanks for doing this, your help is really valuable! I'm getting my son his first phone, he's 12 and he'll be the last in his class to get a phone, crazy times. Q: do you install the apps before installing Bark, Boomerang and Google family? Is there a specific order to install those three?
I really like your agreement idea, definitely going to do that. Thanks again and merry Christmas. Rob, UK.

Even though I knew all this, the kids mother went behind my back and gave her a band new iphone and kneecapped my ability to perform proper initial setup, including her icloud account. I had told her no Iphone as well. Some parents, I swear.

Can you please make a video on how to remove my child from Family Link so he can have full autonomy without oversight? A few years ago I lied about his age when I set it up because he was over 13 and now it won't let me change it to his correct age now that he's 18. The only options are to delete the account or to remove it from a device. Does deleting just remove it from Family Link or does it delete his account so he has to start over? Thank you for your awesome content! Alan

I like this. But I do think there’s no need for monitoring if your child trusts you to tell them. I’m 13 and trust my parents enough to tell them about annything I felt uncomfortable with on the internet, but I understand not all kids are like me, and not all parents are like mine.

It blows my mind. You're going to give your kid total access to the horrors of the internet and let advertisers root into the attention center of their brains. Sure you want to call your kid when they're out at practice or something, get them a flip phone. I'd say the kid can buy their own smart phone and plan after 16 with their own money.

  • @pawsformercy1050

I thought the1st vip thing to be clearvon before buying a child a cell phone is WHAT ACTIVITIES You want to allow. Unless you just dont think about giving them a usefull tool for their enrichment and safety and just want them to stop bugging you and need a babysitter to distract them from bugging you like I see most parents these days.
Then you should be worried about which phone to buy

Respectfully..I disagree. I have experienced a child of 11yrs who was freely allowed screen time from 4yrs. This child can not comfortably walk up or down stairs due to lack of motor skills, does not understand facial expressions because they don’t excise online 2D, let’s not even discuss hygiene and how to use the restroom..it’s a problem, has zero concept how to exist with other people..communication..friends…can barely even speak to another human face to face. I know this is an extreme but nothing good comes from unmonitored screentime
