You should also credit Alka Yagnik in your description. She's one of the greats of playback singing. Completely dominated the female vocals of Indian Cinema from the 90s to 2010. Shes technically the main singer in this song
Arijit Singh is lucky to get a chance to sing a song with legend like Alka Yagnik, bcz there's nothing better than the 90s era songs, Alka Yagnik, Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, Abhijeet,Sadhana Sargam, Anuradha Paudwal etc

Also, I dont think any singer in the modern era will ever dominate the way the mangeshkar sisters and alka yagnik did in their day. the industry opened up to more voices. Theres never been a time where Shreya recorded practically every hit song of the year the way it used to be with the older playback singers.

Important trivia: This particular scene is all credit to the actors. Improvising at its best. This scene was not written in the script. Imitiaz Ali just said action and the rest is history. Even the people in the set were left speechless and in tears.

She's one of the most cherished and accomplished singers in Indian movie industry.
Alka yagnik is the reason why I listen to this song bcz i don't like Arijit Singh or any other current singers songs much except a few like muskurane ki wajah,etc. My favourite are Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik, Kumar Sanu, Abhijeet, Sadhana Sargam, Anuradha Paudwal, Mohammed Aziz, Sonu Nigam,etc

@@papigamerff2886 bro i listened them all including kishor ji..rafi ji...kk...kumar....udit..sonu...when i used to listen their songs i didn't even know the name 'arijit'âŠâŠi didn't listen his songs too at that time...first time i listen ae dil hai muskil title song of his...at that time; for the first time,i searched about someone...thats him...after that i listen his ayat song...then iam addicted to him..bhai main uske pehele kishore ji k songs pe thoda connected hua tha..lekin after listining arijit..har gaane pe connected hota hu...yrr...uske baad i became his diehard fan..
This was actually not a cheoreographed scene. This was an improvised scene..was enacted naturally...i guess The fact that they used to date in real life and broke up kind of helped enacting this scene.
the story line actually shows they love each other when they meet on vacation somewhere- however, he's charming, confident someone mysterious. they dont tell each other about themselves while on vacation but clearly fall in love. they move apart and cross paths again but when they re-connect he's not the same person. he's shy, awkward, doesnt resemble the person she fell in love with and has convinced her that the person she fell in love with is not him. this song occurs after he has tried telling her that he cannot bring back that same person...this song is telling the story from both persons vantage...its a good movie and a great song..

By the way, the song wasnt heavily choreographed. The director let the actors do some of what came organically to them.

I highly recommend checking out the whole album of Atrangi re ( produced by AR Rahman). It was my favourite movie album of 2021, beautifully composed, sung, and written.
