Saw this tour in 1984 at Carnegie Mellon University. They didn't even have names for the track they just used numbers. The best show I ever saw and I've seen Rush 3 times. So glad you enjoyed it and much as I do. Bonus got Nick to cry. Thanks Nick N Lex. đ
Saw them in Ann Arbor Michigan later in 1984. They were absolutely fantastic, and the crowd was really into it. My lasting memory of the evening was Lyle Mays acknowledging the ovation and mouthing "oh my god" over and over at the end of the show! Thanks and RIP, Lyle.
comparing RUSH and Pat is rather foolish.....I love Pat, saw him 4 times...it's always magical, yet the 78 John McLaughlin One Truth Band w/ Larry Coryell tour remains one of the very vest concerts I ever saw, but only because that's the day I decided to take guitar seriously...but i would never compare the two, I've seen way too many great shows to start trying to find the very best....sometimes they are all great
I saw the First Circle Tour at Gammage Auditorium in Tempe, AZ with a girlfriend at the time. I was blown away. Saw the Group three more times in the years that followed, the last three with my wife.
saw in 84' at SMU Dallas. yall remember how pat opened the show by starting to play the tune Forward March from back stage and coming out doing a funny mock march while he played? that was the coolest thing i ever saw. there's some live bootlegs of that tune out there, worth a listen.
Early 80s to late 80s PMG is pure đ„
So happy to see young people appreciate quality music, especially music beyond. I think PMG was a one time gift in time that I had the privilege of listening since 1977 .
Pat is almost 70, Lyle and Nana are gone ,Pedro is 63, like me.I don't know how long I will be around but, nice to see this music will not be forgotten like tears in rain.
Here's my little story. I became aware of Pat and Lyle at a Joni Mitchell concert. Went out and bought Wichita Falls. Then they came to town at the Greek Theater in L.A. PMG had just released "First Circle." I thought it was an absolute masterpiece. I thought it represented the circle of life. I was determined to give it a standing ovation even if I was the only person to stand. It appeared as the 3rd song that night. I stood up at the conclusion, and so did EVERYONE ELSE. Just amazing. After that the next 3 or 4 times I saw the group, this played in the 3rd spot, and it always got a STANDING OVATION. Unheard of in the middle of a concert. Thank you Pat. Thank you Lyle.
I have seen the PMG 6(?) times (Los Angeles area) and "First Circle" got the standing O every time. For me, First Circle is a "perfect" piece of music. Even after hundreds of listenings, i can still become emotional. "Aja", Steely Dan and "In a Silent way, Miles Davis, are in that category as well. Absolutely beautiful musics.
This song has been my companion for the last ... 39 years. Every time I hear it, I must listen to it. One of the most challenging composition, and yet, it flows like a stream. It's the proof of the mastering of their instruments. They make challenging sound easy.
Pat Metheny and Steely Dan will always be the primary soundtrack musicians of my life. The more you listen, the more there is to love. Thank you both for this channel and your honest reactions.
Amen to that
RIP Lyle Mays. He contributed an incalculable amount of musicianship, heart, emotion, and grace in all of the recordings he was a part of. Check out American Garage by PMG a few years before this.
My first PMG purchase and still my favorite PMG album. Pat and brother Mike (flugelhornist) were born in Leeâs Summit, MO which is a suburb of Kansas City. I have met Mike at one of Patâs shows and seen them both twice. Check out Mike Methenyâs âDay In, Night Outâ and in my eyes Pat does no wrong. It might be weird and/or different, but itâs still great!
This is a great album and Iâve really learned to appreciate End of the Gameâ in my old age.
Amen rip Lyle Mays!!!!â€đâ„ïž
Yes. It truly broke my heart when I heard he had passed.
@@charleskentjr696 I probably sound sexist, but itâs wonderful to know a male felt that and expressed it. Restores my faith. đ
Pedro Aznar. So connected a singer.
Holy crap is right.
This is my favorite piece of music of all time.
Thank you John for the request (you saved me a coffee) and Nick & Lex for your heartfelt reaction. There are four times when I've cried listening to music, and Metheny was involved with three of them. This was one of the tunes.
5:30 | Being moved to tears by beautiful music - a taste of pure bliss - is such a wonderful, divine gift. I recall sitting in a Starbucks, fighting back tears as I heard Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays' "September Fifteenth" for the first time.
This is so beautiful! And the Pedro Aznar's voice is another musical instrument that shines by itself!
The orchestration alone is a work of art, let alone the composition. And then to add the skill of the individual musicians makes these pieces a work of wonder and beauty all alone.
Thereâs no mistaking Pat Metheny...he has a sound and vibe all his own...love his music
Metheny/Mays wrote soundtracks to life, painted in watercolors and pastels. Energy without edges, fury without anger, with all the relentlessness of love. Never to be replicated, just appreciate what was left for us.
JUST GORGEOUS!
Two of my favorites from him are "It's for You" and "Farmers Trust" both used in the movie Fandango. đ
Oh my Lord! It's driven me into tears! I met Lyle Mays in Rio in 1992 at a jazz festival! We had a talk for half an hour! He was an amazing guy, a gentleman and an incredible musician! â€đ¶đč
The voice and part of the percussion here is from Pedro Aznar, an argentinian musician from one of the best argentinian bands of all times, SerĂș GirĂĄn (you should react to them absolutelly, "la grasa de las capitales", "viernes 3 AM", "Desarma y Sangra" and so on), Pablo is also an amazing bass player and have a solid solo career that is still going on.
Just wanted to add, that the double bass is played by Steve Rodby, an amazig scholar in the function of the bass. He plays in most PMG productions.
The percussion instrument Lex mentioned is named cabasa
Revisiting this, two years later. Ya know, I wouldn't worry about the crying, Pat's music makes me cry a lot. It's so beautiful, it's like I can't take in that much beauty at one time, so I cry. I can't really explain it, it just happens. Some people, music doesn't affect them much, not so with me, it affects me deeply.
Currently blubbering...
it never ever fails...every time I hear First Cirle, I am lifted up in spirit. Lyle smiles upon our souls.
The Lyle's solo piano is a masterpiece ! Maybe the most beautiful thing i ever heard...
And out of all his renditions of this solo this is my favorite.
@@evan1586 Yes. Totally agree with you. I listen First circle every week :-) (I'm a professional composer and pianist, so i really understand the difficulty and the beauty of this solo and the entire song of course)
a true masterwork - blend of heart, technique and harmonic sophistication..
Lyle Mays.. WOW.. YES, what an unbelievable loss. đą This is one of my favorites from Metheny. â€
You just listened to the best musical composition of all time!!! Rest in peace LYLE MAYS.
I saw Pat Metheny in Miami during their First Circle tour in 1984. Listening to this is wonderful yet bittersweet for me. The beauty of this music is wonderful, but the nostalgic element is realizing that this period of my life will never return and is a distant but beautiful memory.
I've seen PMG four times, 1983, 1991, 1994, and about 1999. The bittersweetness you write about, Joe, is real for me, especially for this track. I first heard it on a "Jazz brunch" hour on a local rock station, back when individual stations could decide their own programming. The deejay just said "wow" when it was over, and I soon had my own copy of "First Circle." I would play it in my cassette Walkman wherever I went and felt freedom and exiliration. Having a song that could immediately elevate mood as a young adult was very special at a time where the world was "my oyster" and I was charged about the future. That's what nostalgia is, a happy/sad feeling about a point in the past that can't be repeated. Thanks for sharing.
I cried with you. So beautiful.
Where have all the real musicians gone?
So true. Real music.
Pat Metheny's still touring! Saw him in concert March 21st 2024.
Nick, God love ya, man. You and I are on the same page! Pat's music -- this kind of music, in particular -- has been in my life for so long and it moves my spirit! I love what Pat and Lyle and the rest of the band does. They have won many, many Grammys due to just this kind of playing and composition. It's great. Thank you!
The Pat Metheny Group, specifically, Lyle Mays (RIP) when he solos,, it's not just a solo, not even just a song within a song. They take you on a journey and you actually feel better for listening. BTW, Pedro Aznar was the vocalist for this song.
Great to see a younger generation gaining an appreciation of PM. Long-time fan and Pat's music has never gotten old. You have superb taste in my humble opinion ;-)
Thanks for your kind words and for listening!
You both have musical spirits. You feel it (like an empath) in your hearts. Your tears are a sign of how deeply you feel the music. Itâs beautiful and the tune is too. Thanks so much for the request and reaction. đ
I watch you both and get emotional. Hit me right in the middle of a hard day, so thanks. And Lex, your hand on Nickâs back is a such a sweet display of love. đ
They are truly blessed. I think they know it, too.
@@FenderBassMan Yes, thanks đ And I feel blessed knowing them, even if itâs through CZcams. Lol.
Beautiful! Emotional... Lyle Mays at piano! Pedro Aznar's voice and percussions are so deep. Wow!
Of all of the music I have ever listened to, in every genre that I have explored, this piece of music is my favorite of all time. If I could fly - soar - this would be the soundtrack of my flight. So awesome! So happy to that not only have you found this gem, you are sharing it out to people who may never have wondered about it. Pat Metheny is an American Treasure!
Exacto lo mismo digo!!!
I feel the same way...this music is what it's like to fly joyously, just your body through the sky and the clouds. My favorite song ever!!!
My older sister got me into Metheny over 25 years ago. Beautiful, melodic music. Lots to explore.
Itâs so hard to say that I have a favorite PMG piece - there are so many. This one always moves me no matter how many times I hear it. This is music.
This song always makes my spirit soar! I'm so happy to see you two enjoying it. Pat Metheny is his own musical genre!
Same here Ray! Feel good music, nourishment for the soul.
I think I also recommended this on your first Pat Metheny reaction. I saw this tour back in the day...maybe 1985 and it was incredible! The guy on the vocals is Pedro Aznar. Not only did he do vocals on that, he was all over the stage and I was completely flabergasted by that mans sheer talent and stamina. Lyle Mays was one of the most gifted pianist of our time and was so glad that I got to see him perform live. One of my favorite Pat Metheny cuts! Great reaction, guys!
I saw them on this tour when this album came out, it was awesome. They are so good live. The melody on this is beautiful. If I'm not mistaken, Lyle Mays wrote that song.
First Circle is a Grammy Award-winning jazz album by the Pat Metheny Group. Released in 1984, it is the group's fourth studio release. Metheny is joined by Lyle Mays on keyboards, Steve Rodby on bass, Paul Wertico on drums, and Pedro Aznar on vocals, percussion, and guitar. First Circle won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Fusion Performance.
Vocals are awesome...and Pat is just Pat...along with the other amazing musicians.R I P ..Lyle Mays..you were the best!
Great song from Pat, Lyle, Pedro and the gang. I believe this is Pedro Aznar singing. His voice put the Pat Matheny group above and beyond. Hats off to Pat as always (world's greatest guitarist and musician) Lyle Mays - The best acoustic piano you will ever hear - and the rest of the Pat Matheny group - the World's best band! We miss you Lyles. Thanks NicknLex for sharing this wonderful moment.
Thank you Nick and Lex for reviewing this fantastic music!! Any works from Pat Metheny stirs and comforts my spirit!! If I could and Are you going with me, set me into a very reflective and emotional state. I will love his works and all the great musicians he worked with always!!! Really miss Lyle Mays!!
Please , please, react to ", are you going with me?" from "Offramp" with this music I fell in love with PMG.
The music of Pat Metheny hits your soul everytime. The songs are stories. They take you to a path of emotions. September 15th, The Search, A Map of The World, The Road To You.... They are all superb ! You listen to them 20 years later, and it will hit that spot, that memory, that moment you never forgot, and the music of Pat Metheny will bring that all back again. Thank you PMG.
The zenith of Pat Metheny Group on full display. 1985 Grammy for âBest Jazz Fusion Performanceâ. This song makes your soul-spirit soar. It should be THE song that commercial glider pilots play in the cockpit, so that passengers have the best experience possible. Just over 9 minutes of musical bliss. Envision it!
I saw them live a half dozen times in the 80âs in So Cal. You are correct when describing Lyleâs Piano solo. It evokes so much emotion, as does a great deal of PMG music. Pedro Aznar was a brilliant addition, and he brought a vibrant youthful energy to the live shows during his tenure.
I love this tune. One of the great things about his compositions is the variety and mix of instruments along with beautiful dynamics and melody and great musicianship. There is something new to be found each time you listen to one of his musical works. Just great! Glad you discovered him!
Awesome and thank you. Try his epic album he did with Lyle Mays called As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls. Enjoy
One of his best! Check out âItâs for youâ
From the As falls Wichita record. So many great songs to choose from. Heâs a genius and this band was absolutely stunning to see live. I saw this lineup on 5 different tours and always amazing.
Lyle's solo is one of the pinnacles of music of all time.
Wow! Used to listen to Pat Metheny in the early 80's on a program in Portland, Oregon. Haven't heard him in ages! Thank you for this gem!
He just came out with another album. You got some catching up to do.....have fun.
Pat Metheny is a national treasure. He has 20 Grammy awards, but has only a 'cult following'. Thanks for spreading the word. See below for some more excellent choices for songs for you to review. I can't wait for you to do more of his songs. How about "Are you coming with me?" or the prayer like "Above the tree tops" or the pop rock like song "Follow me". You should review the live versions of these songs, as they are practiced on tour to perfection.
I saw Pat Metheney 7 times. He is such an amazingly talented musician. The First Circle is an incredible piece of music. The album âLetter From Homeâ is highly recommended. Also, check out the album âSecret Storyâ. With regards to First Circle, I wept like a baby the first time I heard it. Discovering his albums is a journey and great adventure. I lastly highly recommend the album âQuestion And Answerâ.
Shalom to yâall
Secret Story is fantastic! Epic songwriting. Over 70 minutes of music. Pure bliss.
Your reactions to this music is very soulful and sensitive. More people need to listen to this type of music to give everyone sense of pause. Keep it up. Thanks!
The voice for the 1984 tour was Pedro Aznar. He recorded with the Pat Metheny Group a number of times. He eventually became a big star in his native Argentina. Needless to say, in 50 years, Pat has played with a ton of his musicians. The Pat Metheny Group in 1984 was Pat Metheny (guitars0, Lyle Mays (RIP) (keyboards), Steve Rodby (bass, electric and acoustic), Paul Wertico (Drums), and Pedro Aznar (vocals, percussion, backing guitars). All five of these folks were talented as heck, and most of them were the core of the band for over a decade.
Can I just say... cosmic?? I was introduced to them via the live album, Travels. Then First Circle. I was a believer.
You two are adorable! I started weeping with joy and poignancy, watching Nick be moved, and also Lex, and your interactions. Thank you for honoring Lyle and Pedro and Pat...and the whole band (Steve R. Paul R., etc.)! PS-- I saw this live in San Francisco, c. 1985-6.
Kudos for posting this, N&L! I became captivated by PMG as soon as I heard them (in 1979). I share your emotional reaction to compositions like this--they reach out and grab your soul. (I was raised in a family shaped by music--my father (jazz) and both grandfathers (classical) were professional musicians of the highest level; mom was a weekend warrior jazz singer. When she said that she was mesmerized by Pat Metheny's music, that was the highest acclaim; she was extremely picky, and was always hovering around to offer advice when I practiced.)
Always a journey with PMG. The beauty of hearing this group live is also extremely emotional. Been a fan since 1980.
The first time I have seen Pat Metheny live was in 1977. He was not well known then and was doing the first part of Jean-Luc Ponty (who played with Zappa among others). Before the show, I met some friends of my brother and they told me "I didn't know you where coming to see Jean-Luc Ponty". I told them "No, I come to se Pat Metheny, you may not know it yet, but so did you". I met them back at the end of the show and they told me "You where right, we saw Pat Metheny".
I was 17 years old when I discovered Pat Metheny and his group. Since then many years had past and my love for his music is a part of my life. This music is so beautiful and precious to me, is a part of my historyâ€
There are so many like this in his catalog. Hope you do many more.
Perfect sunny summer Saturday. Waking up before my wife, throwing on the live CD, The Road to You, having a quiet cup of coffee. So chill...Also, you need to tackle Joni Mitchell's live album Shadows and Light. Her band includes Pat and Jaco. A great live album!
Alan Holdsworth and Pat Metheny!!!!!!!! Road trip!.........Seriously guys.........Im sitting here crying right along with Nick. Breathtaking!!!!!!
Wow, I'd forgotten how superb this album is, how beautifully Pedro Aznar's vocals added to the Group; I'm so glad you did this one! I first saw the PMG back in June '78 in Austin, touring behind their first group album, with Mark Egan and Danny Gottlieb on bass and drums. My friends and I knew him from his work with Gary Burton - there's a great set on CZcams featuring that band, with 20-year-old Pat, you should check it out - and Pat's incredible "Bright Size Life" album with Jaco, and had been listening to the first PMG album nonstop, so we were super stoked to see them, and they did not disappoint in the slightest! It's been great to follow him through the years, and his openness to "outside" playing ("Zero Tolerance for Silence", "Song X" with Ornette Coleman), his sublime work as an accompanist (with Joni Mitchell, in her band with Jaco and Michael Brecker, for example), his exploration of new instruments, and his ongoing fertility as a melodic composer has been just remarkable. And damn yes, it sure was sad to lose Lyle Mays last year. Thanks again!
The hand clapping in the beginning gave off a very tribal/world music vibe and then yeah, Pat Metheny. I just love this channel so much and yes, I love you guys too! What a song.... what a channel!
I've seen Pat Metheny more than any other musician, probably a dozen times , , and have come away from every performance with the same thought, the man is a genius. For those guitar players that haven't had the pleasure of seeing him live you have missed seeing a master of his instrument. His playing on some of Michael Brecker's albums is brilliant and shows how he can fit in many music styles.
Surely one of the most emotional & spectacular music performances of all time, and arguably PMGâs greatest moment. And besides Patâs exquisite Baroque- esque section, heâs playing rhythm guitar exclusively. Extraordinary Rhythm playing! Considering his discography, unique in that regard and offering evidence of what a remarkably versatile player he is. Lyleâs greatest solo w/PMG, and his synth lines throughout a cornerstone of this historic recording. Not enough superlatives.
I think itâs fantastic that youâve reacted to this piece! Love that you felt it so much and YES! Lyleâs solo is so beautifully phrased and articulated. Pat Metheny is musical royalty.
Forgot how achingly beautiful and uplifting this track is. Thanks đđŒ @john z. for the suggestion and to you two for your comments. Metheny & Mays released another spectacular record a year or two earlier called: âAs Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Fallsâ... if you havenât heard it, you might want to check it out đ„°
Thank you for doing this. I still remember the first time I heard this recording over 20 years ago. I had heard them play it live a few years earlier, but hearing this recording changed my life. Watching you listen to this for the first time helps me relive that special experience.
There are no brushes in this. The drums are all sticks, and there are a few different kinds of shakers in the percussion plus some digitally sequenced percussion on the Synclavier.
Pedro Aznar is the singer (and percussionist and second guitar) on this. Richard Bona sung it on tour 18 years later, and I had the pleasure of seeing him sing this in person. He did it beautifully.
...I cried while you watched this...this soundtrack it changed my life/means so much đ
I'm a huge Pat Metheny fan. We lost his keyboardist & partner, Lyle Mays, last year. Those who have seen them live can attest to their 'wall of sound' which is a lot like a rock concert fused with jazz. Not a wrong note when they play live, superb musicians. This is a complex piece of music, and almost impossible to play. One of their best.
I'm from Montreal and I've always associated Pat Metheny with the Montreal Jazz Festival. He and his group once played in front of 200,000 people in downtown Montreal. I was there. Amazing experience!
It was so wonderful to watch you react to my favorite Pat Metheny song. I first heard this while driving on a beautiful parkway on a warm and sunny Spring day on my lunch hour. It was so hard to go back to work! This optimistic and expansive sound made me want to keep driving! This was the song that brought me to this great artist and I was blessed to have seen him 4 times, twice with his wonderful group. Pat's music has been my savior during the pandemic- it always lifts my spirits!â€
Bellas palabras bellas y entiendo tu sentir paso lo mismo en mi pmg me cambio rl concepto de musica
Had the great fortune to see Pat Metheny live three times over the years in great venues: Radio City Music Hall, The Wiltern Theatre in L.A. and the Fox Theater in Atlanta over several tours. So privileged to have seen him all three times with Lyle Mays and Co. Sublime music! đ¶đ” The double live âTravelsâ album is astounding - try âSan Lorenzoâ for one. And check out a video of Pat playing his custom 42-string Pikasso guitar on âDream Within A Dream.â đ€Ż
Thank you for reacting to this!! This is my favorite production by The Pat Metheny Group. I was blessed to see PMG 4 times, 3 of those times at the Bass Concert Hall at the University of Texas at Austin, and once at the old Austin Music Hall. Which means I saw them play First Circle live 4 times, all experiences of a lifetime. So glad you reacted to this!!!
" I was blessed to see PMG 4 times, 3 of those times at the Bass Concert Hall at the University of Texas at Austin"
I was at one of those and it was beyond words. PMG's music touches chords in me that aren't otherwise played often.
@@17837 Exactly!!
I'm so glad you acknowledged Lyle Mays. I have been grieving this master/genius musician/pianist/composer like a close relative. First Circle always makes me feel like if I start running at certain parts in the piece, I can just jump up and start flying through the sky. It literally cuts gravity in half. The vocalist is Pedro Aznar. The thing that you thought was a brush was actually a type of percussion instrument/shaker. I've seen the group countless times since the early 80's up until the mid 2000's. They were very accessible after shows and willing to have conversations with members of the audience and there is/was nothing on earth like one of their live concerts. The group was actually lead by Pat & Lyle, very early on they were told to name the group under pressure and in the moment they just agreed to have Pat's name be the identifier and they just never officially changed it, which Lyle always stated was perfectly fine with him. And last, Pat always said that if it weren't for record company business reasons, he would never give any of their compositions a title, so often, you'd go to their concerts before they recorded and just hear music with no title at all so it did not influence your imagination with a title. You'd only find out the title AFTER the album was recorded. It was even more magical that way. RIP Lyle Mays.
You are running such a great channel. So many of my likings are here... missing Firth of Fifth with Genesis but cannot buy you a coffee yet

Hola chicos!!!.
Oh my God! Another one of my favorite musicians! Iâve seen him live 13 times since 1978. Way different every time. Try Tell it All or End of the Game, from this album. You wonât regret it!
Creative Beauty will many a time
Make you Cry.
This is Music and Humanity at its
Best.....đđ
Pat is the king of the "sleeper song". As It Is and It's For You are two of the best examples.
It starts off a little slow, then the heavens just open up.
The light of it just blinds you.
You can't help but cry a little.
"That, that is music. Music for the soul." Right on, Nick & Lex! Been waiting for this reaction! Saw them perform this song at Cullen Auditorium/U of H campus in 1983 before First Circle came out and again at the Greek Theatre in 1985. Got caught up in your emotional reaction. Yes, Lyle Mays piano solo is SO dynamic! Great performance that rivals his "San Lorenzo" piano solo. Love Pedro Aznar's vocals on this track. I own all PMG albums. They are must buys!
Thank you so much for only stopping the music once - you're forgiven - but the pleasure on your faces listening to one of my favourite pieces of music was a joy.
Pat and Lyle produced together some of the most beautiful pieces I've ever heard. The compositions, the arrangements, the beautiful dynamics, the melodical impros, demonstrates the intense careful they both have with all aspects of the music. Lyle is gone, but his legacy is eternal. Pat continues producing amazing music. He's my favorite musician all over the world, and I know I'm not alone, so you could react more and more from Pat, guys. For now, thanks for this one. Hugs!
I saw him play in 1976 when he was playing with vibes player Gary Burton and bassist Steve Swallow. He was 22. They played in a chapel on a University campus. The acoustics were amazing. They played for three hours. They enjoyed the venue that much.
I stil remember my first reaction in 1986 when i first hear that as a 15 years old drummer..i just could not count the tempo...and then the arpeggio...pure joy..what a record!
Love Pat Metheny. 1st album with San Lorenzo was an album one of my college roomies played all the time. Pat also played on Joniâs Shadows and Light live album. My fave is New Chautauqua title track.
Music like this brings out the love in you two.
Pat Metheny group - White Album, San Lorenzo or Phase Dance
VOCALS BT PEDRO AZNAR - the voice of an angel
I was 5 rows back at the State Theatre. I can lip-read pretty good. At the end of the concert it was wild applause. Pat and Lyle seems taken aback. Lyle looked at Pat and said "Great crowd" . Everyone was smiling. Life was good.
So so good! I discovered this album when NYC had a smooth jazz station CD 101.9 really when I discovered Pat Matheny as an artist. Unbelievable talking to an older friend he turned me onto San Lorenzo another fantastic song and album! So talented takes you on a little trip! Great road music!†and itâs music that makes you feel thereâs hope in this crazy world. Uplifting!đđ»
Well stated and I recall that radio station!
I love seeing and hearing peoples reaction when they listen to The First Circle for the first time, its so emotional and visceral for them. Fun to watch.
What a great song, huh? One of my all-time favorites for almost 40 years. You should know - when you were talking about the drums and percussion - what you were hearing were shakers and a guiro (the thing you referred to with beads that you turn around). But contrary to what you thought, the drummer is not playing with brushes. What you're hearing that's delicate but texturally rich is a lot of double-handed playing of cymbals, especially the the ride cymbal.
Yo he seguido a Pat Metheny desde la década de los 80 a través del primer disco que escuché y que me fascinó "Travels". Goodbye es mi tema favorito de Metheny es un verdadero poema musical
A modern day Mozart/Brubeck
He allows the music to expand...
Totally without ego...
Thanks for doing some Pat and friends.
The vocalist is Pedro Aznar from Argentina. I also saw this tour and it was fantastic. A great album.
Thank you, thank you so much for playing this, one of my favorite PMG songs! Pat and Lyle wrote so many songs together ( they've been compared to Lennon and McCartney).
Hey Guys...Pat Meteney is a Grammy Machine...saw him in 1981
An amazing piece of music. One of if not the finest pieces of music from the PMG.
My darlin turned me onto Metheny in the 70's. Fan of all his sojourns since. The "Are you going with me?" with Anna Maria Jopek is great. Also his performance with Het Metropole Orchestra at North Sea Jazz was amazing.
So much realy touching music that Pat and Lyle wrote and played when they were together.
Lovely to see you both enjoy this. Blessings to you both đđ»
