  • From signallers to engineers, it takes a team of experts to prepare the Metro Tunnel for passenger services in 2025.
Go behind the scenes at the Signal Control Centre as we run multiple test trains from West Footscray to Hawksburn via the Metro Tunnel, demonstrating the reliability of Melbourne’s new high-capacity signalling system.
    About the Metro Tunnel Project
The Metro Tunnel will create a new end-to-end rail line from Sunbury in the west to Cranbourne/Pakenham in the south east, with bigger and more modern trains, and 5 new stations. With testing now underway, the Metro Tunnel will open in 2025.

What purpose does the birdirectional running have in operation (apart from looking awesome)? is this for train rescue missions incase a train breaks down in the tunnel?

Was that a citybound train on the Sunbury down-line going through Footscray station (platform 2)? Not the normal direction. Was that just for testing?
