OnBoard POV in a Ford SportKa at the Nürburgring (Nordschleife + Sprintstrecke) [SUB ENG]

- Here's a video I made during my summer 2018 holidays in Germany, at the Nürburgring. Going there and don't have a drive on the Green Hell it's like having made the trip up there for nothing, so as I did in 2016 for my very first experience on the Nordschleife, I went to Need For Ring, one of the many car rental company around the track, in order to rent something to enjoy the evening toursitenfahrten (tourist rides).
I was looking for something a bit "more" powerful and fast compared to the Ford SportKa I rented 2 years ago for my very first 4 laps but unfotunately there was nothing available if not the same SportKa! Taking into account that my buddy MattyB727 wanted to do his first Green Hell lap, I agreed to divide the cost of the rental so we would have done two laps each.
This video is about my two laps (my 5th and 6th ever lap, a bit cutted and edited due to traffic and "boring" parts, on the 'Ring) in that lovely lightened and stiffened 95hp SportKa. I must admit it's the perfect car if it's your first experience there and it's possibly the cheapest rental car of the Nurburgring. It's a bit stressful seeing the car struggling on the few uphill straights, but due to its lightweight, roll bar and setup you can attack the corners without much problems.
Last but not the least, we were lucky enough that day since the Touristenfahrten session wasn't exclusive on the Nordschleife layout (20.8 km) but the 23.8km one (Nordschleife + Sprint GP Circuit but without the "Mercedes Arena").

Eventhough this might be the slowest lap of the Nordschleife I've seen, it was very enjoyable to watch!
I managed to pull about 21 minutes once in a E46 316i (1.9l) on a rainy november day with super bad tires. I spun out twice in the first 5 corners so I did the rest very slowly lol. It was my first time ever on the ring.
This is the dream. After an unfortunate incident involving intentionally creating a stupid amount of lift-off oversteer I am currently not in possession of a SportKa. However, since people are stupid and don't realise how good these cars are prices are really low, so I am confident I can get my hands on another one relatively soon. The Nordschleife is a 3 hour drive away from where I live, I'm excited about the future.

Hi Bozzy. That looks so fun... Awesome drive, mate! It must seem surreal when those Porsches rip by at obscene speeds. Haha. The comment at 7:22 ... I'll bet there are several places on the track like that. It's like you know every turn from practicing on video games, but actually experiencing those elevation changes and G forces behind the wheel, gives you a whole new appreciation. Hi Mick! Correct, that's a little issue of driving a little and "slow" car on the 'Ring. You're basically a prey for any car, and Porsches are quite the best predators out there XD It's scary when you're in a sequence of corners, you check in your mirrors if nobody faster is approaching, look for a few seconds the road, check again rear mirror and you find a GT3 behind you hahah
As you perfectly said, video games are fundamental to learn race tracks, especially the modern sim racing games where most of the circuits are laser scanned so you have the exact bumps, inclination or curbs height but of course they can't let you understand the real elevations. But yes, it's like watching a movie in 480p and then you watch it again in 4K: you know what to expect but you enjoy it more ;) thanks a lot for watching this video! Ciao!

I noticed you have very good situational awareness on track (always checking your mirrors, being patient with others who aren't as fast as you, etc.). It must be tough driving a low hp car on such a challenging track while banging gears and trying to hit apexes without being gobbled up by the sharks.😆 That's a lot of information to process. IMO, you whipped the little Ka pretty good.👌 Very enjoyable to watch. I like how with such a low hp car, you were able to go flat out through many sections of the track.👍 It looks like great fun indeed. Cheers buddy.

I have a regular 1.3 Ka as my current first car. It's so fun to drive. On back roads I can push it extremely hard and it never complains. I've beaten friends in more powerful cars in that thing. It was a great buy considering that it cost me £580 and had working A/C. It broke in March, which is a shame. Other than that, I am honestly considering buying a SportKa as my next car and turn it into a project. The plan would first to buy the SWR kit for it, and then explore forced induction. Probably a supercharger since that's easier to do.

Ciao Damiano! Si certo. Intanto se vuoi chiedere info direttamente al gestore ti comunico che è un ragazzo italiano che vive lì in Germania, molto gentile e disponibile per ogni chiarimento quindi sia se vai là di persona che se gli scrivi tramite sito internet Need For Ring ti spiega lui tutto alla perfezione.
Per quel poco che ti posso dire le opzioni di noleggio sono dei pacchetti in base al numero di giri che vuoi fare sul circuito. Quasi tutti gli auto noleggi attorno al 'Ring partono con un pacchetto "base" di 4 giri che poi puoi aumentare a tua scelta e i prezzi generalmente sono "all inclusive", quindi paghi il noleggio della macchina compresa già di benzina e biglietti/ingressi della pista. Ritiri la macchina da lui prima che inizi il Touristenfahrten, guidi fino alla pista, fai i giri che hai concordato con lui e quando hai finito la riporti indietro

Non ho mai noleggiato da RSR Nurburg, che è forse il noleggiatore più famoso del Ring, però sul loro sito c'è un bel documento PDF dove anche loro spiegano non chiedono mai alcuna cauzione ad eccezione di alcuni casi particolari, tipo che si tratti di un'auto molto costosa (lì parlano di Ferrari, Porsche e compagnia bella), in caso tu sia neo-patentato, hai problemi a comunicare con il personale o nel caso di un cittadino non europeo

First of all, I've never seen that video before and that's amazing :O Regarding what you pointed out, I'm 100% agree with you about the vibrations/shaking of the Hero 4. My first Binaural videos, which were POVs like this (GoPro on my head and walking around the tracks), I had the same sickness feeling watching the videos back home and in fact I change the kind of recordings for those ones. But for on boards I can't hide how I love the helmet cam, even if there's all that movement. Especially driving slow cars/vehicles it gives me a great sense of speed. But as you can see I mounted it on the side of my helmet so a part of the video (the helmet itself) seems to be static and it's a way to remove a bit the shaking (always my personal opinion..).
Anyway placing it on a static mount is always the best option, but unfortunately I didn't have my roll-bar mount with me that day and I honestly completely forget about placing it on the roll-bar... :/ I'm not sure if I want to spend all those moneys but the new Hero 7 seems to have an extraordinary stabilizer and I'm pretty sure, if it does its work, you'll start to like these POVs without the shakings ;)

Niente, semplicemente gente che ha finito di fare il proprio giro e deve uscire del tutto dalla pista, senza dover rientrare subito per un'altra tornata. Per uscire sulla strada pubblica, devi per forza fare il giro del parcheggio esterno ma quando hai metà di questo occupato da Porsche, per un evento ufficiale, ed essendo Agosto, non c'era poca gente. Hai una sola uscita ed è ovvio che tra chi cerca di parcheggiare la macchina, chi deve fare il cambio pilota/passeggero, basta che qualcuno si fermi lì in mezzo e si crea quel bel traffico
