How to photograph plants like a pro

- Before I was into houseplants, I was a self-taught photographer for 20 years, and professional photographer for 3 years. I would not have enjoyed this plant hobby as much if I wasn’t constantly hunting for moments to capture and share on instagram (and youtube). I hope that through this video I can show you have you can increase your photography skills for plants (and other subjects), and from this experience you will have a newfound love for plants.
One common question I get is how I get my plant photos background to look so white. I answer this with visual examples and tutorials. I also show you photo editing (post production) at the end of the video. Yes all my photos have been retouched before release, but this is industry standard. Cameras simply cannot see what our eyes see as there’s limitations to light capturing technology and light detection software.

My husband's hobby is bird photography and I agree with the adrenaline rush part!
I know it sounds strange but I have started taking pics of leaves that don’t make it during the acclimating process when brought home. Some plants go through a beautiful phase before they die. I would also pull dying leaves from different plants, give them a background to take pics. 🤪
Some of the dying leaves are actually quite pretty!

I love these ideas! I am always trying to take better, more interesting pics of my plants and I do try different angles but I never thought to actually get down on the floor for the angle looking up! Fantastic video. Great perspective on the habit/hobby photography. I’ve been hooked since a black and white photography class in college in the late 80’s. I now use a dslr I like to shoot in raw to aid in editing. This is one of your very best videos. Congratulations.

Above all never use a handphone(telefon bimbit) to take photos of plants. The noise in solid colours and details is horrible.
