  • (20 Sep 1962) One of the stations to feel the squeeze of British Railways' economy-drive is Great Longstone in Derbyshire. Dr Beeching's shut down has now taken effect. No more passenger service from Great Longstone. A local resident Mrs A Boardman began a campaign to persuade British Railways to maintain the service if only for her. She won her point and now stopping at Great Longstone there'll be two trains a day, one to take her to work and one to bring her home. There isn't any staff on duty and nobody else is to use the station.

Not here, but there is (or was) a railway station that was to close in Japan that ended up having a similar arrangement in that one train a day would stop in each direction to allow some village school children to get to the local High School as the bus service did not operate until later on in the day
