Putin takes Belarus president Lukashenko skiing in Sochi

- Russian President Vladimir Putin took Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko skiing at the mountain resort of Krasnaya Polyana near the Black Sea resort of Sochi following a working meeting between the two countries.
The pair hit the snowy slopes and also rode snowmobiles down the mountain.
During his visit, Lukashenko thanked Putin for the economic support after Russia provided Belarus with a $1.5 billion loan last September in a gesture of support for Lukashenko as protesters took to the streets across Belarus following an Aug. 9 election which opponents say was rigged.

The lack of snow is clearly not a problem in the mountains near Sochi. The Black Sea is a good source of humidity and the January average is slightly below freezing at 560 m above sea level. The highest point served by the lift is at 2320 m.
