I bought this watch after watching your video. I did have the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 but the GPS was terrible when using Strava, especially when it was connected to my phone via Bluetooth. I returned it after 2 weeks because I use Strava to record my activity. Bought this and it was perfect for me. Thanks for the review.

@@DesFit I think looking at Connect 4.0 and the emphasis on designing for these. I'm sure more SKUs are coming just not sure about lower end watches or high end. I am probably going to go with the Venu and hopefully upgrade to a higher end AMOLED SKU if / when it's out. FYI You made my day by replying. Thank you :)

Mike Smolka Thanks for all the support! The Active 2 is a great little smartwatch but the fitness performance leaves a lot to be desired. The Venu will be your best bet for a fitness-focused device.

Awesome review - thanks! Just switched to the Venu after 3 Ionics died with 18 months (me+family members). It's unfortunate that Garmin & Pandora don't get along (I have a Pandora fam subscription) but I need something reliable. Great job!

Both are great devices. The 4S will have a slightly smaller form factor as well as slightly longer battery life, but the Venu does have a nice, crispy display :) The Fort is a hard place to leave!

Yes, the display is pretty much the only difference between the two.
This is a beautiful smartwatch from Garmin :) I have the Fenix 6 Sapphire and I wish it displayed something like this. I'm just waiting on a future Garmin rendition which has a bigger edge to edge display. Another great review, thanks for sharing!

I think I’ve narrowed down my choices to the Venu (love the round screen design) or Apple Watch. I’m not so data driven, but I want accuracy for road cycling. Which device do you think has best GPS and HR? Any advice?
The Apple Watch will have a more accurate HR sensor but as you mentioned, a lot of people tend to prefer a round watch vs the squared off design of the Apple Watch. The Venu’s HR sensor isn’t bad by any means, but the Apple Watch just tends to be a little bit more accurate.
Also very important factor is the battery life, which is shockingly bad for the Apple watch!
Just ordered one. Now I can't wait to get it. :)

Been using this since launch and love it! Heart rate is spot on compared to chest strap but I'm using it for running. So like u say, prob more to do with the type of activity.

The only SLIGHT (and it is slight) gripe is that on the odd occasion the 'raise to wake feature' doesn't work on a run.
By no means a deal breaker because im sure it's just a quick software fix.
Ryan Brown I just pulled the trigger last week and picked it up . I love it . Only issue I see is the wireless head phones that work with it .

Might be the headphones, I have galaxy buds and they are cutting out all the time with it. Got a pair for £49 on Amazon and not had any issues since 🤷🏻♂️

currently have a Garmin Vivoactive HR that I got for free, but looking to switch for something that is great at tracking all of my activities, but also more stylish.
Was going between apple and samsung, but now I'm going between apple and garmin! This was the first I've looked into the Garmin Venu, and I love how in-depth your videos are for everything! Can't wait to do some more research. Just time to decide what things I find more valuable.... compatibility with the apple watch, or more detailed tracking and running without a phone with the garmin.... decisions decisions
You’re on the right track by looking at Apple and Garmin, for sure. But it’s definitely a hard choice between the two!

What a great review! I've been using a Garmin 235 for running and it's great but I wanted something with a better display and music capabilities. I tried the samsung sport but it was terribly inaccurate and frustrating. I will try the Venu :)

I’ve been using the 235 and lately it’s been taking 5 minutes to find gps and my Apple Watch is letting me down when it comes to running I think I’m gonna try the venu out

If you prefer physical buttons, opt for the 245. The only thing it’s missing is an altimeter which means it doesn’t have the downhill skiing/snowboarding profiles. But if you prefer touchscreens, the Venu or VA4 will work well. Additionally, the Forerunner 245 will have more physio features like VO2 Max and recovery time.

Me too, I was so sick of having to charge the AW every day and not being able to even take it on a getaway weekend without the charger. My search for an alternative brought me here!
I saw your review and ordered Garmin venu..There was big twist(disappointment) waiting for me when i started first run. My headphones stops playing music once i start the activity . Garmin venu wait to get GPS and that the moment it loses connection with headphones . I use sony wf-xb700 . Later on i came to know from Gramin forum that many people are facing this problem and the watch support very limited type of headphone models ....FYI..i live in netherlands nijmegen ... the GPS is also not so great... I added the same comment in DC rainmaker channel as well ..because u both were the reason why i purchase this watch ....

Thanks! Ya, Garmin keeps the open water swimming to the Instincts, Foreunner 745/935/945/735XT, Swim 2, and the Fenix line of watches and not their more “smartwatch” oriented watches.
Hey. I just looking smartwach for squash and gym ... Maybe more sport less smart. In your opinion - the best for this acitivities ... is ?
I know this ia a long shot, I am looking for your advice and guidance. I own and love the Fenix 3 HR. This watch has never failed or gave me issues but now the "HR battery Low" come on all the time when working out. Battery life for the whole watch is now dropping earlier also. What do I do about this? Does Garmin rebuild these, I have searched the net and I see that some people have changed the battery but that brings up other issues. Is this watch basically on its last life? Thanks if you see this. Love your reviews, and will be using your reviews on my next watch.
