Re propagating climbing rose: a little story Many years ago an elderly man stuck a naked climbing rose twig in the dirt at the side of my parents house. My father was going to pull it out but my mother, for the elderly man's sake said "just leave it". Well, that twig grew over the years and covered the side of the house, even to the second floor. Dad took cuttings and before long the whole fence around our house was covered with roses. The neighbours took cuttings too. There were climbing roses everywhere, all from that naked twig that looked beautiful for years after that elderly man passed away. His legacy to our part of town.
Lol, lots of opinions on the editing. I loved the allium that popped up on the screen and some additional information that was shown. Although it's not everyone's taste, you can tell a lot of time and care was taken. Thanks for all your great videos. I watch every day.
I agree. I love the added fun things like the allium, the zooming in etc. My only complaint is I was not a fan of the white swipe, otherwise loved the video. The split screens are my favorite!!
Ok, I wasn't going to comment on the white swipe between questions because, ultimately I don't care and will watch either way. BUT, it does disturb the "flow". I think one of the reasons that the highlights videos are so enjoyable is the back and forth and repartee between Laura and Aaron. I think the "swipe" sort of interferes with that. Almost like a palate cleanser.
It was fine before. This also hurts my eyes. I love the recaps but will stop watching as this is so irritating. Before it was a delight and flowed seamlessly.
No need to worry about using too many words Laura, I’ve always found you succinct and efficient in your descriptions; you almost never repeat yourself and your word flow is excellent.
In the spirit is keeping things on a positive note. I really enjoy your (older) simpler style of editing. Less drama is what this channel is all about and I support that spirit more.
Was trying to think of a nice way to say just that, so thank you. Laura, please consider those who have visual sensitivities. The white flash-through between questions, the really fast speed ups in weekly videos, etc. can be disturbing.
I’m always so grateful for all of your videos and I really don’t like to leave any kind of “negative” feedback on videos, unfortunately I just have to express that I’m not a fan of the editing on this video. The white swipe was distracting and it feels like we didn’t get the regular back and fourth that we usually do between questions. The video over all felt a little sterile and unnatural. That being said, I would never stop watching over something like this, I just hope the feedback is taken into consideration for the next recap. 💜
The editing reminded me of Epic Gardening's, which I really like in that context, but I'm not a huge fan of it here like you all mentioned. It was done well, it just doesn't feel like the right tone for Laura and Aaron's personalities. I'm sure I'd get used to it eventually, but I'm glad I'm not alone in my thoughts. No offense Garden Answer team!
Generally I love the recaps, a time to sit back and hang out with you both. Sorry but this one felt rushed and commercial. I always enjoyed Ken’s sense of humor and how he used it judiciously.
I seemed to remember there was going to be a new editor and wondered if this was their first one. It seemed to be a little "cuter" than usual. Judicious is the perfect word.
I agree, was disappointed with the rushed feel of this one. Don’t like the “cutesy”, split second stuff. If it’s important info, please leave on the screen for more than one second, otherwise leave it off. Just my opinion.
@@lyndawhitty-xx1nv”why would you say anything”…because Laura and Aaron would want to know if their subscribers are dissatisfied or disappointed in the video.
No dividing line between Laura and Aaron either. It gives the impression that they are divided and the most definitely are not. I love how they talk back and forth sharing ideas but the white line made it feel less lovey and more conflicting. Amazing how a 1 inch line can make that big of an impression. ❤❤
Just a bit too much cuteness took away from the naturalness of Garden Answer. I totally agree with so many that the old format of your conversations made us feel we were right there! Today just didn’t feel the casualness so many of us love on a Sunday morning.
I have loved that your videos are smooth and very adult, for lack of a better description. I really don’t need words and alliums flashing on the screen nor the flipping between questions. Please don’t try to look like all the other choppy videos out there. Stay true to your brand because it’s as good as it gets!
This video was stressful to watch. It seemed like the footage was even speeded up. In my experience, good editing is not noticeable or flashy. Love you guys and the old format.
And short. I often watch on 1.25 just as a typical thing if Im watching a list of videos from my watch later list, and this was normal and felt on par with speed for 1.25. I wouldn't have been able to speed it up and enjoy it..... but I don't normally speed up the Sunday Recap because it is a nice relaxed treat while I'm still in bed. Lol. I liked how they put in a magnification of the names that couldn't be figured out, and it seemed like maybe extra clips from the videos, but I'm wondering if maybe they just forgot to remove a couple of editing tools they were using. Like I edit in 2x speed to save time on at least my first 2 passes, and I'm wondering if the white screen transitions were some sort of scene change type marker they meant to take out or change over to something less noticeable when they were done? I know in my software I can click one transition and change them all to the same thing, so even if I don't add them in until the end they can all get changed really quick and sometimes it is hard to find stuff while adding clips and such.
Agree! It felt like Laura was talking a mile a minute to hurry up and get done. I love the Sunday morning recap videos and I liked this one too, but it definitely felt very rushed. Also, I like seeing Aaron and Laura side-by-side when they’re talking to each other, but not the white line dividing the screen.
Oof, not The Great Edit Debate! I imagine one must have to grow thick skin in order to put vulnerability into planning, filming, editing and sharing content with millions of people who are each capable of being a critic at one point or another. You guys and your team are doing better than great. Thanks for sharing worthwhile and beautiful things with the world, regardless of how the clips transition. 💚🌱
Thank you! Nice comment. I can't believe the hullabaloo over the editing! People threatening to stop watching? What a world! I get constructive feedback, which is important... but I also imagine how rough it must be to have edited ONE video, and then receive such judgmental feedback! There are nice ways to say things. I loved the split screen! It was fun to see both their reactions at the same time! Nothing about the editing bothered me, but if it had, I'm sure I would have given it at least 3 or 4 videos to decide how I felt. Surely someone new to GA would have appreciated getting to try some new things, add their own flair, and be given some time to find their own style! This channel really IS awesome! And thankfully, so are the majority of subscribers! You being among them. Thank you for leaving such a kind and positive comment. 😊🌱🌼
It's so funny, I didn't even notice those transitions that people are complaining about. I didn't find them distracting and thought it was fine. Great video as usual. Thank you.
I grow and propagate African violets and my best bloom tip is to change the soil often, immediately after a bloom. Mine will set new buds within weeks of repotting. You don’t need a new pot, just new soil, and if the plant has more than 4 rows of leaves, clip the lowest ones off. The plant doesn’t need them and they take energy away from the blooms. With the right light and feeding, you can have them in almost constant bloom.
Laura, you use the exact amount of words every time. Some youtubers talk way too much but you do a great job to give the correct amount of info. Not too much. Not to little. Always a good job. Thanks for all the information and encouragement for us novice gardeners.
Thank you, as always, for your wonderful (& FREE!) content. So many people complaining about the editing in this video, instead of appreciating the time & effort you put into all of your videos. I am sorry you have to deal with such entitled people telling you how to edit YOUR videos to make THEM happy. 🤦♀️ smh
Great video! I am excited I am going to Andrew’s this coming Friday. I live in Bakersfield CA and will be going to Boise for my granddaughters graduation from dental hygiene school. I can’t wait for both! We don’t have a garden center like Andrew’s.🎉❤
Haven't seen any negative, but people do have concerns with the motion. I myself found it to cause motion sickness, and someone mentioned nausea. People have the right to voice their input.
I don’t hate change and in my consulting life my job is to create and manage change. A cornerstone of good change management is gathering feedback, understanding any unintended consequences and reflecting on what should and should not stay the same. This video lacked the ‘calm, friendly, unrushed, banter’ vibe that has been a large part of building the Garden Answer brand. Messing with your brand is a big thing to be tackled. Some people will leave, perhaps others will join. All of which is fine if it was intended. But this is part of how they earn income so they need to know the feedback so they can assess the impact. Then there is the, I expect, unintended consequence of the things in this video causing visual issues for a number of people. It did for me. I could not watch most of it. I could still listen but even that had a different feel. Most of what I read, and what I wrote, was feedback not negativity. Negativity ultimately shows up in lost viewers and followers and for a content maker that needs to be managed.
I agree, there were some "less than kind" comments. Constructive feedback is important for sure... but there are nice ways to say things. Thankfully, most were quite respectful with their feedback. What a sad welcome though, for a new editor trying to show their skills! It's a journey. Hang tough new person, if you even see this! lol
I actually really liked the rose prunning video this year. Sometimes, you just need an in-depth video with direct camera shots of various angles to show the best care for roses. Trimming a big climbing rose is intimidating, but your instructions were bang on for me. My roses & I thank you 👍🌹🌞
I spend all week looking forward to your recap videos. It's my chance to spend some quality time with Laura and Aaron talking about plants and life. This morning was a disappointment. I enjoyed hearing about the plants, but i didn't feel like I was a part of conversation. It seemed strictly edited so Laura and Aaron were talking to us, not with us. 😢
I liked to see more answers to the comments this week, maybe they had limited time and had to hurry along somewhat? In any case, every vid or recap is informative and fun ... for me!😊
I've purchased extra covers, tiers, spinner bases, and water reservoirs for my Greenstalk Planters. I like to create two or three tier heights so that my granddaughters can reach all of the pockets and put water in the reservoir all by themselves. 🍓💕
To the lady who asked if the propagated violets stay true to color of the original mother plant. I am not an expert, but my daughter started with two plants around 14 years ago and has propagated over 100 plants from them with several generations of starts. She has ended up with lots of variations in color over the years.
My favorite video of the week was the fundraiser arrangement! It raised a lot of money for the school and will be a gorgeous display for whoever bought it. Loved it!
Actually as someone who has watched every rose pruning video you've done, the one last week was the most helpful. I understand how you as an expert may think you're being verbose, but on this side of the info, we need the detailed explanation or at least I do.
I always love the recap videos for a slow start Sunday morning. This one felt very “punchy”…”Bam, next question”… I like the smoother transitions and softer edit. The new bigger and bright white email boxes are a bit distracting too. I gave it a thumbs up anyway because I love Laura and the content but the style doesn’t flatter Laura’s normal delivery.
I love your honesty about how much work it takes to complete some of your projects. I often try to convince my husband about my ideas being a piece of cake. If you know what I mean? The reality! 😃😂🤣
This edit is hilarious! The "close ups" and highlight of silly words and faces. The close up on knocking on wood. Too funny 🎉 You two were already enjoyable. Anyhow, you inspired me to make a planted pot for a fundraiser.
Well, you have to try new things and see how it works, sometimes. I don't hate this format, but, I really prefer the old to this for most of the reasons already stated. Kudos for trying, though! ❤️
watching the video this morning.....when I hear Laura say my name......shocked to hear my name ( and pronounced correctly too I might add , thank you ) is an understatement
Lol. I've been here awhile and support them not caving to little criticisms. But I'm no beggar and ' whatever you give us' isn't a thing for me. This seems to be a big deal to many people. Would you rather they lose numbers and never know why?
Drooping African violet leaves can also be because of a fungus at the stem. High humidity with a dense leaf structure can prevent airflow and a fungus can develop. African violets get 12 hrs of light in and around the equator where they naturalize. Just in case you can't run light for so long. In their natural habitat they get 12 hrs of light and 12 hrs of dark. I grew up in Kenya and had them growing in my garden beds. Hope this helps someone ❤
@@NinjaOrchids No, it's OK. Actually Laura said "drooping", too, and answered the question that way. But the question, as written, had the word "dropping". As I said, I don't know if it would make a difference to the answer.
If the person who lives in the Mediterranean area reads this, I live in the Mediterranean area as well and yes, our roses do not loose their leaves either. However, it still best to cut them back during our winters, December through February, remove all the leaves and do what Laura does with her's. Oyr roses need to be rejuvenated for best performance and blooms as well 👍🏼 hope this helps you ❤
The gum ball off the sweet gum tree makes great Christmas crafts. I made a wreath with them and I have heard you can make those cone shape Christmas tree decorations with them.
I have had the top couple tiers of a greenstalk blow off. I can’t remember if it was just a windstorm or if it was an actual tropical storm or hurricane. But it was because it had not been well watered (some of the tiers were not in use). When well watered, I’ve had them stand up through hurricanes. Although sometimes I will disassemble the layers if something really strong is coming through. We have had several windstorms this winter and I’ve had no issues.
Tulips Blue Diamond and Black Parrot are also reliably coming back for me in zone 7a. I loved the video on how to prune climbing roses, I learned a lot from it.
BTW, greenstalk does sell (or did) the covers by themselves. I already had run a drip tube up into mine, so don’t need the watering system. I was able to get two lids alone. I have trees that dump all kinds of junk into the top and clog it up. It’s on drip, so I’m not out there watering every day. I did have to periodically clear out the leaves and/or spent blooms from the trees. What a relief to now have them covered!!! So much better. Greenstalk keeps getting better and better. Love mine. Everything has improved over time. My recommendation for base would be spinner with wheels, then you have all the options. Spinner helps if you want your drain tube to stay in the same spot. That was an issue with the non spinning one. All of mine are on wheels, but on a patio. If on grass or dirt or in gravel the wheels likely wouldn’t work well.
African violets with "stalks" can definitely be repotted and planted deeper to bury the stalk! If you have a 2" stalk, cut 2" off the bottom of the rootball, put back into the same pot, and add fresh potting mix to the top. In extreme cases, (I have seen AVs on 10" stalks that have "crawled" right out of the pot), you can re-root the entire top rosette. If you do that, bury at least a "stub" of the stalk down into the mix, and put a dome or plastic bag loosely over the plant (use sticks to hold the bag up so it doesn't touch the leaves). The cover keeps the plant from drying out while it's growing new roots.
I have wanted to say something about the Sweet Gum tree you put in last year, but held my comment. I am in Georgia, and we cannot get rid of them. They pop up everywhere, and the balls- ugh! I’m hoping they grow differently in your area😊
Hi, just wanted to remind you, that Laura did find a borer in her hydrangea. Video was from March 9th 2021 in the back garden on her invincible mini mauvette and she says she'd use a systemic 😅. I remember only because I just watched this recently trying get more info on pruning hydrangeas this spring ❤
Laura.- I remember you didn't like cleome (spider flower) - because it's one of my mom's favorites. I do remember that you gave it a pretty fair shot though, pretty much a full season. I do sort of think it's like gaura though, and you should give it another shot in a different application and not as a "tidy" plant.
Thank you for sharing about the sunlight issue for African violets when they are older ones that have not bloomed. I put mine in the window sill and lo and behold they are starting to bloom. I was so excited!
Did you have problems with the video? It seemed overly jumpy and animated. It was visually distracting. I always enjoy these videos on Sundays, it's like sitting down with Laura and Aaron, having a cup of coffee and chilling. But was a little ADHD.
You can buy the lid separately for the greenstalk. I use them in the spring and fall when stuff is flying through the air. I can't see down into it either.
I feel like those of us that enjoyed the editing will be drowned out by louder voices. Having said that, I enjoyed the video and did not notice the complaints others made until I read the comments. Good job, new editor!!!!
Ok comment out of nowhere. You know where that wild Hollyhock grows near your fountain. What about a full Hollyhock garden there? It would be so magical and fantastical. Love you guys. Give it a thought 🙏

What a lovely idea!
That’s a great idea, thanks for sharing!
That was a quick one.
Viewer feedback - not a fan of the white “swipe” between segments.
Loved it!
I keep thinking it would be cool if they were a garden answer watcher and sent in a picture of where it ended up.
My seven year old asked if he could tell Laura her flowers are beautiful ❤️❤️. We agree 😊
I like the editing! When Laura made the Allium sign Editor popped an Allium in there! Nice job.
Actually as someone who has watched every rose pruning video you've done, the one last week was the most helpful. I understand how you as an expert may think you're being verbose, but on this side of the info, we need the detailed explanation or at least I do.
kind of amazing how many video editing experts watch GA weekly recaps
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂
😄😆😂
I think the new guy did a great job with the edit! He added a little humor and fun elements 👍
Same here! Great sense of humor, and helpful information!
Love the recap videos. REALLY dislike that white slide transition between questions.
Would love to see ur sisters yard how it's looking an an update on ur parents house an her new landscape plans
Great vid as usual. I cant believe I am commenting on the editing, but all of the sfx is not needed. Aaron and Laura are interesting enough.
Loved the Allium appearing in Laura’s hand!
Thanks, I did not imagine it.
This video felt a lot different and chaotic. The editing was really different and I don't know if it matched the content. Still love ya guys though
Good morning! 🌻🐝
Happy St Patric's Day !!
Kick up your boots & have bunches of fun 😂🎉
I remember the RED Tulip that was in your tulip garden lol
I'm still traumatized by that 😂😂😂
Always love the weekly recap to refresh my memory. Thanks
Too funny 🎉
You two were already enjoyable.
Anyhow, you inspired me to make a planted pot for a fundraiser.
I really like the editing in this video! That, along with all the cute personality traits being accentuated really made me smile!! Thank you!
Well, you have to try new things and see how it works, sometimes. I don't hate this format, but, I really prefer the old to this for most of the reasons already stated. Kudos for trying, though! ❤️
Laura , I think the color of the green pot was soothing and calming too , it was beautiful
Your editor is so fun! Loved when you were talking about alliums and at the perfect moment the allium bloom appeared in your hands!
watching the video this morning.....when I hear Laura say my name......shocked to hear my name ( and pronounced correctly too I might add , thank you ) is an understatement
Whats with this crowd?? Love whatever you guys give us. Cheers.
Lol. I've been here awhile and support them not caving to little criticisms. But I'm no beggar and ' whatever you give us' isn't a thing for me. This seems to be a big deal to many people. Would you rather they lose numbers and never know why?
We’re spoiled and we really watch what’s going on and notice any differences in the video. Sometimes change is hard.
I don't know if it makes a difference to the answer, but I think the question was about dropping leaves, not drooping leaves.
Thank you. Your comment was helpful and timely.
@@ritasicari7518 oh! Sorry!! I guess I heard the pronunciation wrong! Thank you for the correction!
Oyr roses need to be rejuvenated for best performance and blooms as well 👍🏼 hope this helps you ❤
Always so enjoyable. Thank you for making my Sunday morning.
Good St. Patrick Day Morning 🍀
Happy St Patrick's Day!
Good Morning!!! Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!☘☘☘
I am in Atlanta and I was constantly cleaning leaves and junk from trees from my greenstack. It was lifesaver to put lid on top
Love your videos and the new way of editing! The magically appearing allium was my favorite! Thank you for all you do to bring joy to our day!
The allium was cute, but the rest of the changes in editing were hard to watch. Too fast paced and felt cut-up, not smooth at all.
Hi Laura and Aaron. It's a wonderful rainy morning here in my part of Trinidad 🇹🇹 Much love everyone.
That pot is beautiful. The plants were outstanding!! You did a great job!!
Thanks for a great video!! Loved seeing the picture of the original Andrews Seed Co. !! From Georgia with love ❤
I love the additions the new guy did, kind of highlighted the Laura-isms. Made me giggle!
I just ordered a cover for the greenstalk the other day. So, yes, you can order just the top.
The climbing roses video was good! Super helpful! I’ll be needing to review it when it’s time to prune my new plants! ☺️
Tulips Blue Diamond and Black Parrot are also reliably coming back for me in zone 7a.
I loved the video on how to prune climbing roses, I learned a lot from it.
I LOVED Taylor’s editing! It was great!
Great video! I enjoy all the answers to the questions! I totally understand about not saying the hard to pronounce names! It's fine! 😄
LOVE that you both smiled so broadly at the end when Aaron said, "It begins"❤❤❤
The allium graphic cracked me up. Nice editing!
Definitely a little different editing style on this video. I like it. It's entertaining. Everyone have a great Sunday!
I’m the same way. I can take heat and cold, but the wind is just something I can’t take.😬
African violets with "stalks" can definitely be repotted and planted deeper to bury the stalk!
Great recap. Love watching these. Hope everyone has a wonderful day and blessed week.
I have wanted to say something about the Sweet Gum tree you put in last year, but held my comment. I am in Georgia, and we cannot get rid of them. They pop up everywhere, and the balls- ugh!
I’m hoping they grow differently in your area😊
Yes, they just grow as one tree and don’t reseed, as far as I know. Our area is very dry.
Great Job on the Editing 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Inserts make it fun ❤❤❤❤
Loved the allium enhanced example you held up during the video - fun! He did a great job in sparking our attention.
Fantastic editing with the pop up box explanations!
Whoever edited this video did a good job. Love the insert of the large allium head over your hands. Always enjoy these updates.
I'm not a huge fan of some spireas except for Bridal Veil spirea. Absolutely gorgeous!
Yes, I have several, wish they bloomed for longer than a week or so, though.
Ok comment out of nowhere. You know where that wild Hollyhock grows near your fountain. What about a full Hollyhock garden there? It would be so magical and fantastical. Love you guys. Give it a thought 🙏
Hi! Merch idea… I would totally buy a garden answer t shirt with cheddar, Russell, and Douglas. Actually a tank top would be better! Thanks. Love you guys!
Good morning GA friends!👋👋 Laura, you are a delight to listen to! Always so many good things to share. We here in Saskatoon Saskatchewan still have mile high snow banks and are eagerly awaiting warmer weather. I’ve had a problem with fungus gnats with my house plants, what do you use?🌻
Hello fellow Saskatchewanian!
Laura uses Gnatrol which is BT. She talks about it in a video from Nov. 16, 2023

so so entertaining! i just love coffee and garden answer!!!!
Do you guys plan on continuing to do the “beautiful garden series”?
I think you guys are wonderful! The editing on this one was very distracting, however. It seemed rushed and choppy and things flashing on the screen.
The white swipe is as annoying as the hand in front of the lens accompanied by a whoosh sound that some Tubers do. I’m not sure why it’s necessary or were you just taking it out for a walk to see what we thought?
