    One small mistake in your description. They are not anodized. Only Aluminum can be anodized. I think you were showing heat treating. Anyway, great job with the video!

    Does anyone remember the britpop band from the 90's Campag Velocet? In 2014 I realize than they took their name from this company, and it's really sad that I've come up with this thing, but there it is and I just wanted to share, bye.

    Nice little film, there is a lot to think about. I reckon some of the machines are very old school. I would love to see how the Japanese approach the chain.

    A bicycle chain is pretty simple compared to other types of chain. There are only the links and rivets. Sure, its technical but not many components involved. Plus I am surprised how slow the stamping and assembly processes are, moving like a toad. The video makes it look like they check every piece of chain that comes out, no, they do quality checks for each batch or after a certain amount of time. The people making the die that the links are stamped out on are the most technical part of process. This type of chain compared to chain for chainsaws is low-tech. Chainsaw chain, has additionally cutters, drive-links, anti-kick-back links involved. Plus some cutters are chrome plated for edge life. A company I am very famaliar with 30 years ago made over 140,000 of feet of chain in a 24 hr period, three shifts. The life of a chainsaw chain is much more violent than a bike chain. Nice video though and relaxing commentary I have grown to expect from Dan Lloyd. Thank you.

      In fact, each chain is manually checked.
      They do not do batch checks.
      I know this as I am involved in the warranty process at Campagnolo and was in this part of the factory last week!

    Seem superfluous. Campy chains aren't far and above other manufacturer's chains, which aren't "hand-checked." It just drives up the price and drives Campy into the ground. Edit: But then again, I'm not a bike snob.

      @SantiagoGT15 Před 7 lety

      Zach Wong reviving your comment... but I assure you that there are no "expert chain inspection" positions, it might be a bloke or two checking every hundredth chain

    • @povertyspec9651
      @povertyspec9651 Před 2 lety

      Their chains are not super expensive. But they are trustworthy when you're out on a ride and it won't break on you.

  • @isnowyazn
    @isnowyazn Před 10 lety

    How a bike chain is made is the same exact thing. Some chains are just totally better than others, that's all. But this how it's made video is the same exact thing as the regular chain making.
