  • Yamsi Fly Fishing is located at the headwaters of South-Central Oregon's crystal-clear, spring-fed Williamson River. yamsiflyfishing.com In this film, Todd captures fourth-generation owner, Tom Hyde, as he navigates the 5,000-acre ranch by Polaris Ranger Side by Side to fly fish for rainbow and brook trout. In a stroke of luck, Moen hit the Williamson's late-summer grasshopper hatch, producing epic top-water action with rising fish and magnificent takes for his camera. As a longtime Panasonic camera operator, Todd Moen used a prototype camera - Panasonic HC-X2 for this shoot. His input and camera review, including a "Behind the Scenes" short film will be posted on Panasonic's website later today.
    Shot primarily with the new Panasonic HC-X2 camcorder. With a 20x Optical Zoom and Wide-Angle 24.5mm lens, the X2 is a 4K60p 10-bit camcorder with high-speed AF and SDI/LAN/XLR terminals.

    Thanks firstly to the Hyde Family at Yamsi; Tom & Leanne, John & Gerri. Their industry professionalism and long-time friendship means the world to me. Thanks also to my long time fly industry supporters R.L. Winston Rod Company, Bauer Fly Reels and Orvis Fly Fishing. Finally, much appreciation to Neil Matsumoto from Panasonic for giving me the opportunity to be the very first to test and use the Panasonic HC-X2, as I'm a true believer in the Panasonic brand (it's the only one I've tried and stuck with) since Catch Magazine began in 2009.
    Special thanks to these companies that help support my film work with Catch Magazine and helping introduce fly fishing to new anglers around the globe.

    If society would allow science to prevail on upper Klamath Marsh, the fishery there and in this river would be beyond insane in a 3000-5000 acre lake. We would see 10 pound redbands come up this river to meet the hoppers. There is still time to follow the real science.

    • @lancehilt7536
      @lancehilt7536 Před rokem +1

      What do you recommend should be done at the marsh to improve the fishery?

    • @BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists
      @BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists Před rokem

      @@lancehilt7536 The marsh has not been allowed to fully burn in the past century plus. It used to burn every decade or two during a drought. This allowed it to burn a number of feet below the usual water elevation.. That large of a burn is not practical anymore since people live in the airshed. What we CAN do is excavate the peat soil and pay for that by using a commercial operation to sell the soil. The train to California runs right along the marsh. While the non-science environmental advocates try to stop everything, this is a viable plan to bring back what was an incredible fishery and waterfowl, etc habitat. Gaining the political momentum to do this is not easy, so when I can I put the idea out there. You never know when it might take hold.

    • @BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists
      @BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists Před rokem

      @@lancehilt7536 part 2... A really large part of what is happening to our fisheries is the impact of how we use and cultivate the land. Healthy soils are rich in organics which feels spongy under foot. Take a walk in your local park late this summer and see how that ground feels. If it is hard, it will hold little to no water. That translates to winter flooding and summer drought. Going back to more traditional land management with thicker and better topsoil will solve a great deal of the climate issue and our fish populations. Search for a gentleman named Allan Savory. He has much to share.
