Pose is a US Drama Series that premiered on FX in May 2018. It follows the up and coming House Mother Blanca Evangelista as she attempts to make a name for herself in the New York ballroom scene. The series is loosely based on the 1990 documentary Paris is Burning, that documents the lives of iconic Ballroom pioneers in the late 80’s.
1. Pray Tell, based on Junior Labeija
2. Blanca Evangelista, based on Avis Pendavis and Angie Xtravaganza
3. Angel Evangelista, based on Octavia St. Laurent, Tracey Africa Norman, and Carmen Xtravaganza
4. Ms Ford, based on Eileen Ford
5. Damon Evangelista, based on Willi Ninja
6. Elektra Abundance, based on Crystal LaBeija and Dorian Corey
7. Candy Abundance, later Ferocity, based on Venus Xtravaganza, plus colorism discussion
8. Lil Papi, based on the two kids from Paris is Burning
9. Quincy, based on the two kids from Paris is Burning
10. Chilli, based on the two kids from Paris is Burning
11. Frederica Norman, based on Leona Helmsley, plus discussion on ACT UP Activists, and giant condom house covering.
I also discuss how RuPaul was largely influenced by Ballroom Culture, and often pays tribute to ballroom/ drag queen icons on RuPaul’s Drag Race.
In this video is also discussion on violence faced by the trans community, in particular black trans women, and a brief discussion on cultural appropriation and colorism.
Pose FX is also available to stream on Netflix and BBC Iplayer in the UK
Thanks so much for watching!

Thank you for this!! Well done!
For some reason I had trouble sending money on your go fund me from the US. My bank tried to block the charge but it looks like it finally went through! But maybe you can also post your Venmo or PayPal for international folks who want to support you! All the best to you. Thanks for a great video!
Hey Lily thanks so much for your recommendation and for trying to donate. Your donation doesn’t appear to have gone through. My cash app is £princessamanirenas and I’ll update my PayPal a bit later. Thanks so much 💞
Electra is actually inspired by Crystal Labeija’s based on her protégée Pepper Labeija
Loved the video, donated and shared your PayPal fund! 💕
the amount incredible trans and gay ppl who died from AIDS is heart shattering.
It TOTALLY IS!!! From 1983 to 1985 I was in the hospital on average 3 times a week for about 6 months, to witness death from aids, to say goodbye to my loves, my heart! I STILL cry like now writing. 1987 was the loss of my 25 yr old sister to aids, which was the final cap and last death I personally dealt with. I see god and his/her SHINE inside each one of us! It’s a blessing! Love hard love always come from love at all times!!! Start with yourself🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🙏🏻
@@MariellaSuenos1 so glad you’re still here!
The government did not care until it hit the straight community
@@MariellaSuenos1 do u think the government had something to do with the spread if aids
@@christinagraham2915 Exactly! The Reagan’s not only knew, but Nancy Reagan was very close friends with Rock Hudson, who was dying at the time they took office. It’s been said that when he asked her to address the “gay plague”, she stopped taking her calls. That’s cold. So they not only knew about it, but they were both from Hollywood, and both had worked around members of the LGBTQ community, and had made friends. When they got to Washington, I guess they forgot where they came from. The president didn’t even say the word AIDS until 83? 84, maybe? Just how many people might we have saved, or at least improved their quality of life.
We lost an entire generation of LGBTQ persons. And they were the “Stonewall” generation, so we’ve lost some of the details of our history at that time in our history. My generation came along after them, and I am so glad I knew some of those wonderful people. They taught us a lot about how to survive in the world. I miss my friends that I knew. I am so so glad this show is paying tribute to the amazing people of that time. We will never know what they endured!
“she passed away of aids/cancer complications, murdered” there's so much pain in those life stories :(
I wish it wasn’t so many beautiful ppl with wonderful talents
It's uch a dark history of the USA, to let us die of AIDS, like a no-value human being.
Yet this country is full of churches at every corner!
I cringe at thought that our people died all alone, subccumed by a virus.
Ring a bell, any one?
And they were so young. Venus was only 23 and Angie was only 28!
I work in forensic medicine and it's beyond heartbreaking when I see on young homeless LGBT teens and victims of abuse on my table. On several occasions I had trans women who were clearly murdered and no one gave a damn....That infuriated me each time and each time I had to go through insane hoops just to get a glimmer of hope for justice for them. I'm very thankful for The Pose because as the adage goes it's a lot harder to dislike and hate someone whose story you know. We need more and more education, if it comes in the form of entertainment, so be it as long as an unaware person learns somethings and walks away with a bit more respect and understanding about other people and their battles.
Billy Porter and Dominique Jackson really embodied the real characters.
100% they do them justice!
Billy Porter is perfection - he's my grandpa in another life lol
I think when Broadway Actress Patti Lupone appeared on the show she was Leona Helmsley
REALNESS!!!!
Candy kinda too her death was similar
“I have a right to show my color, darling!” YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!
So good right
Yeeesss
"I'm beautiful and I know I'm beautiful"
It’s such a powerful line!!!!
I read that Elektra's story is also loosely based on Dominique Jackson's life/experience. She's, in a way, playing herself.
I can believe that after watching Dominique's hulu documentary
@@princessamani exactly.
That makes Dominique even more iconic than I thought she was
After watching her documentary , I thought of this immediately
@@princessamani exactly i just finished watching the documentary.
I still get teary-eyed whenever I watch Candy’s goodbye performance. :’(
Me too it’s too intense especially the funeral scene
Me too!!!
Every time I hear “Never knew Love like this before” I think of Candy 🥺
Me too I can't listen without getting emotional
@@dwmusic147 even though I've heard that song a bunch of times it was like I'd never heard it before💔
I do think it’s great that the darkest woman on the show is the absolute epitome of opulence and self love and pride!
Yassssss👌🏾
Also, it was stated that Candy routinely won the face category. I loved that too.
I think about Venus sometimes and I hope she's somewhere having everything she ever wanted. I'm so sad that the person/people that murdered her haven't been caught. 💔
Me too! It's ridiculous but happens so often :( x
I still remember watching the documentary years ago and had to rewind because I just couldn't believe it when I heard them speak of her in the past tense. It was just unreal.
Right? Wouldn't it be so appropriate if the mummified man in Dorian's house was Venus's killer? That's how I get some peace in her story.
@@princessamani it really upsets me that we have all this technology but no one has solved the murder of Venus. I think about this every now and again. She didn't deserve any of that. All she wanted was a normal happy life. She deserved to have that
@@taccora why do you think of that?
Ryann (who plays Damon) is my little cousin, I’m so proud of him and very happy for him ❤️❤️❤️❤️
whenever I see him on screen it makes me smile! He’s so wonderfully talented
There needs to be a Pose spinoff after this final season.
I just saw the first 2 eps of season 3 tonight. Why is he only in the first episode??? Is he okay???
Tell Ryann he’s one of my Favorite characters on POSE.🎭
I'm still praying for your family, I can imagine it has been a difficult time for y'all♥️♥️♥️
I just love how Pose took Octavia St. Laurent’s modeling dream by incorporating her audition in the series and her dreams be materialize in Angel Evangelista’s story. I just cried a little when Angel got her photo up in the pharmacies knowing this is Octavia’s dream for herself.
I know right! I wish Octavia and venus could have experienced that xx
Right!!!!
loved this video.
Thank you 💖💖
So did "Nowiamfamous"
Pose is one of the best pieces of entertainment ever created....ever...it should be taught in schools.
Literally my favourite show of all time
For real Tho!! Thank you.
Agreed. It is really eye opening.
Exactly there are studens who are part of the LGBT community, trans students who doesn't know about this film ot should be taught in schools
I never saw Candy or Elektra as agressive or messy
I saw them as flawed, tortured people that are willing to grow
Elektra was always a joy to see on screen, even when she was playing her part as a disney villain. But she was never actively malicious. You could tell from ep.1 that Blanca & Elektra still care for each other
Candy to me was very sympathetic, getting laughed at numerous times. She was hard-working, dedicated to her goals and smart. Also always willing to help out her family like with the cocoon.
All in all I love these characters so much
My heart breaks for Venus Xtravaganza so sad 💔😥
Me too :( xx
Not having closure for her loved ones by bringing her murder to justice
Watching Paris Is Burning is like a question with no answer. Made me hanging particularly with Venus, it’s like meeting a friend in a park as child and you had the time of your life and not meeting your playmate the next day.
I agree 💖💖💖
As ballroom child from the 80s and 90s you did a magnificent job with this! You did us proud.
Thanks so much, that means a lot!
All of the ballroom judges are real folks that were in the ballroom scene and I love that.
It's amazing right
I’m so glad you gave history and evidence
Thanks so much for watching!
It is very much appreciated
Thank you xoxo
Whenever I think about all the people we lost to HIV/AIDS in the 80's and 90's I get a lump in my throat and feel like I'm going to choke.. It wasn't a epidemic, it was a genocide until the straights started getting it and dying, then all of a sudden they got very concerned. If there is a hell May the people who stood by and did nothing burn for all time.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙏🏾🕊️🕊️
Straight people were the first to get it- it just thrived in the gay community
"I dont tell youre ugly, but I dont have to tell you, because you know youre ugly." LMMFAO
The best quote lol
Now I have to watch Paris is Burning and Pose
Haha you won't regret it xo
You have soooooooooo much to look forward to.😎
Mee to!
I watched it when it came out on cable. I watched it 92 or 93 as a kid. I was entertained and enjoyed the different personality and the charming community
Google how they also felt used by the producers and how they were misrepresented. It's on CZcams.
Initially, I resisted watching Pose. I was worried it would not do justice to the ballroom community. I actually knew all these people and I feared it would be some fictitious piece of nonsense. I am glad my friend finally convinced me to watch. The show really did justice to their legacies. With sadness and anticipation, I await the final season. I am thankful to have relived those days though the magic of television. Mother Avis Pendarvis, Angie Xtravaganza, Dorian Corey, and Octavia St. Laurent Rest In Paradise.
Much respect to you thanks for the knowledge 💞
I love this show incredible music, fabulous characters and amazing history that needs to be shared.
And Hector X!!!
Candy’s story broke my heart. I’m a SW and one of my clients went to prison for murdering another worker at the same time season 1 came out so her story hit me on a personal level.
It’s so heartbreaking that she never got to own the lip sync catogory and I do think her character was treated like a joke at times.
Candy Furiousity you will always be famous 🖤
🤗🤗😘Sorry to hear you went through that. Lots of love x
@@princessamani thank you for making your videos ✨
Candy even sounds like Venus it's so uncanny. Even having similar deaths...WOW!
I'm cis but have been doing research on paris is burning after watching pose venus and Dorian s stories really captivated me so much this part of lgbtq history is fascinating I feel like I have been educated which I am grateful for, in the past I have been ignorant about queer and trans people but I'm learning to be a better ally ❤️🤗😊💕
Aww thanks that's so kind. Glad you are enjoying learning such a rich history! 💞
Thank you for being an ally!!! ❤️❤️
Preach girl, preachhh.
Please watch Life After Paris is Burning. It details everything that happened up to the point of filming and this time is directed by a person of color who paid the talent a fair wage. Paris is Burning is a great primer to introduce people into the ball scene and a snapshot of being a trans person of color during the AIDS crisis, but the behind the scenes tomfoolery that went down will really put things into perspective. Like the documentarian being a cis straight white woman with an all-white crew. Among other things.
Fun fact: I had been in Dorian's apartment several times and had no clue about the body in the closet until she passed. lol
Great video. I think that Venus Extraganza was also an inspiration for Angel on Pose. When Angel was at Candy's funeral she said "It should have been me" indicating to me that she was portraying Venus. Venus was a model and was passing for female easily. Pose is a great show and you did a great job on this video. Kudos to you.
Thank you for this sweet comment, I really appreciate it. Yes I can definitely see some of Venus in Angel too. Much love 💞
I think in season two, it’s imagining what would’ve happen if Venus lived, which makes the whole thing even more tragic💔
I actually got the chance to speak to creator Steven Canals last week when he did a Q&A session with my school and he said that Angel was his idea of Venus if she hadn't died.
Wow thanks for this!
venus wasnt modeling she WANTED to model get it right
I use to hang out with Willie, Sandy, Scottie, Everette and so many others. It was Willie that taught this straight girl how to walk on the catwalk. I did quite a few fashion shows with the crew. Sorry to hear he is no longer here!
Wow I wish I had taken a walking class with Willi. Much love and thanks for sharing this
Willi was dangerous on the dancefloor from the videos I've seen. Amazing artist
Willie departed us in 2006.
I feel like they didn’t know what to do with candy because until candy’s death I associated Angel with Venus as she was always at the piers and dreamed of having a housewife life which is what Angel was telling stan. Then they went a different way with Angel and candy took the rest of the Venus storyline.
Yeah though I'm happy they spared Angel, I'm also sad that they had to take candy.
I think Angel was originally intended to share Venus's fate, but people loved her too much
To me, Angel is a love letter to Venus. In the end, she was able to marry a man and raise a child, something that Venus dreamed of. She was a representative of what could’ve been for Venus which is very bittersweet.
This is beautiful gay, and gay adjacent, history, culture and class!
Learn children, learn!
Don't be a weak link, be a force to be reckoned with, respected.
Much love to you
Man I wish I had a mother like Blanca
Blancas such a good mom right 🤗
@@princessamani yeah she's a beautiful woman. Inside and out
100% can’t wait for season 3
This is kinda unrelated but you have such a nice calming voice
Thank you 😘
Wow I always thought that Angel character was based off of Tracy Africa. She paved the way for a lot of girls, she crawled so they could walk!
I totally agree, Octavia too 💖
@@princessamani Absolutely! She was always one of my favorite face girls. She was so beautiful!
In addition to the condom over the house demonstration, the demonstration in the Holy Cross Cathedral was based on a real ACT UP demonstration there called Stop the Church.
Angie Xtravaganza IS Blanca not Avis Pendhavis. Angel is a combination of Octavia St.Laurent but the sweetness & little-girl-lost manner & beauty was all Venus Xtravaganza. PERIOD. I was there. Knew half The Children in "Paris is Burning" & lived the life in the clubs with them in the mid 80s..It was EVERYTHING & "Pose" only captures bits of it. The reality can't be brought to the screen. It was a surreal world that existed in full view of everyone while at the same time being "Underground"in N.Y.C...R.I.P. to the original & now gentrified Pier in The Village where much of it all went down after dark with Music..Voguing..Drinking.Smoking.Cruising & Catfights between warring houses. Think : outdoor club for people who had no place to go at a time when the cops just let us be..Good times.
Thank you for the knowledge, much respect. The similarities I saw with Avis was the fact that she really pushed the education side of things which is similar to Blanca. But I agree, the main influence does seem to be Angie.
You are correct about Blanca, she is more Angie. While Avis was loving, and encouraged her children to live beyond the confines of the ballroom, she wasn't having the kids live in her house. Period.
Thanks for educating us
Hahaha, yes, I used to work on W4th St btwn 6th & 7th Ave so you know what kinda trade passed back & forth on that block. Nearly all those kids had run thru the store trying to shoplift but they stopped when they realized I knew what's up. I howled at the part in PIB where the kid was breaking down Mopping 😂.
It's so sad, we have so much more of a story to tell and it's ending this season. Why can't our story be told
I know I wish it want the final season too 💞
I don’t think it makes sense we need this representation we don’t have enough of it
@@ChocolateGumDrop89 create more
me too! x
A documentary on Hulu called pride also tells a lot of our story
I wish Venus would get the justice she deserves.
It's really heartbreaking to see how many of our icons passed away from a battle with AIDS. It's also sad to see how no one has ever been charged with that murder, 150% because the police didn't care to find out. But on a brighter note, it's also very liberating to see where ballroom started to where it is now. By POC, for POC....we are a force to be reckoned with. And I also need to add that I wuz here for Crystal's friend in the background "don't you tell her she's showing her colors!!!" Lmaooo
I 100% agree! I love that line too haha
I think Elektra was also based on Pepper Labeija. Also from Paris Is Burning. Ricky is definitely based on Freddie Pendavis, also from Paris Is Burning. Ricky and Damon relationship almost mirrored Freddie and his lover in the documentary.
Crystal saying “DONTTTTT GO” iconic Dominique embodied her so well!
Iconic!
I'm so glad I lived though that era in NYC and witness it first hand
I hope at some point you could make a video or blog telling us about it!
Time for a CZcams channel and a book.
Also I love the detail that in “The Cocoon” you’ll notice Miss Orlando bears a striking resemblance to Dorian Corey as she’s teaching Electra to hide the body.
wow good point! So many hidden details I had absolutely no idea about until watching this video and reading these fascinating comments! Thank you @princessamani for the video!
Thank you for watching, I just uploaded another video about Paris is Burning
I was surprised to learn that was based on actual situation I've only seen two seasons on Netflix will have to wait for third season.
Venus Extravaganza was so much fun to be with. As small as she was she was a big riot to hang with. We had so many laughs together. I was heartbroken when I was told of her murder and how her little body was discovered. The whole House of Extravaganza was so saddened by her death. Her boyfriend at the time Rican, took it really bad. I ran into him shortly after her death happened one morning on my way to work. I believe it was January 1989, I could be wrong but I was happy to see him even though I can tell he was taking her passing very hard. We spoke for a couple of minutes I gave him a hug and some money and told him to stay strong. I ran into rican a few times during the years and he is doing much better thank god.
So many have passed away from that era sad to say. They would be so happy to know they have not been forgotten and there names and faces are known world wide due to Paris is Burning and how the Ballroom scene has evolved world wide also. I miss them dearly and learned a lot from them. RIP. EXTRAVAGANZA Power forever!!!🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉
Thank you for this beautiful comment Ricky. Lots of love 💖
Hector X! I miss him! We used to run into each other every few years in the oddest of places, have a maaad kiki for a few minutes then spin off til the next time 4 yrs later lol. Beautiful, kind, brave, generous, wise. The last time I saw him, he told me Stay beautiful, stay moist 😢😅.
So did this boyfriend KNOW that Venus was going to hotel rooms with random men ????? @@user-nq1fm7xs2f
I'm not ready for this iconic show to end. I love everything about these stories and I worry so much that it will be a long time before we get to hear about them again.
I agree. We're not ready. 😢😭♥️
Of course the legendary drag queen has a body in the closet lmao😂 How iconic
😂😂😂
Lol 😂
I would say cubby was inspired by the boy in blue @ 15:26
Great video! I'm a cis woman but I've been so enamored with ballroom culture ever since I saw Paris is Burning in my early 20s. Like a lot of people I had reservations about Pose when I first heard about it, but it's such an amazing show and I'm so glad they've been able to introduce that culture and history to a whole new generation of people ❤️ This video was really informative and I can tell you really did your research, I learned a few new things from this so thank you! Also you have a lovely voice. Please keep making videos like this!
Thanks so much for this lovely comment, I really appreciate it x
I remember some of those Historic events especially the condom covered house.

@@princessamani You're WELCOME! I'm a FAN now! Thank YOU for your channel!
Thank you that is so sweet, I have more content coming soon
OMG, thank you for this eye-opening his\herstory lesson! POSE is an amazing show and I can't wait for season 3. But just remember one thing: Elektra is not just a queen, she is THE EMPRESS of Ballroom and the VOICE of the marginalized...Her scene reading that clueless privilged white Hamptons girl is BEYOND LEGENDARY....LONG LIVE ELEKTRA !! XOXO from Tel Aviv...:)
Such a legendary scene, thanks for watching
While watching the show I felt let down by Candy's storyline because they bashed her so much when even when she was doing well and then they built her up with Candy's Sweet Refrain but they only did it when they found out she was dead as tribute to someone they bullied
Right!💖 Especially Pray
@@princessamani there were several moments throughout the series that were plot holes or poorly written. When Elektra was flipping tables in other people's houses for a few episodes only to tell I think it was Damon that he had to have respect. When Frederica said that her only regret was that another woman had her business destroyed she kept flip flopping between good and evil. I think it was to make them seem more kindhearted and less one dimensional but it was really messy and confusing.
Pose is life changing wether or not you are a member of the LGBTQ community
100% has really changed my life for the better
Look up Sade Pendavis. That talent was completely unparalleled. Nicky was all of us in NYC and beyond for so many jaw-dropping performances. A true talent. As all are of us. NYC in the 90’s really was insane. I’m so many ways. Thank you for posting this on CZcams. Stunnnnnzzzzzzz
Thank you I will 💞
I wish I was born during this time. I love the lgbtq community I would’ve been the only straight girl around a bunch of beautiful people back in the 80s and 90s. I’m so obsessed 😍 I wish this wasn’t the last season of pose
There were a lot of straight people enjoying the ball at the time.
girl I feel you, I wasn't even a thought yet in my parents minds but I like to believe that If I were around this time. Then I would've been along for the ride with you as two straight girls hyping these queens up. Borrowing them my make up, helping them dodge trashy cheating boyfriends like Ricky and nursing those that fell victim to the virus.
Angie and hector beat up a man together..... sounds like Blanca and papi with the photographer👀
I tear up whenever I hear Venus’ story, it does truly break my heart.
When I saw the scene with Aphrodite Xtravaganza- I literally GASPED.
Thank you posting this and I had most of them right except for two. I hate the fact that this is the last season of Pose, but it'll go down in television history as a groundbreaking show with a predominantly transgendered cast. As a gay man, transgendered men and women all around the world are brave; and I have much love and respect to you all ❤❤❤❤.
I agree! I hate that it's the last season too, but it will absolutely go down in history. It has helped me so much in my journey to finding and being myself. Much love
I heard theres a new season coming out on May of this yr
May 2nd!
Your voice sounds like silk! Can’t wait to watch you blow up this is so well done

RIP DORIAN COREY💜💚💋
I just finished the series last night, cried hysterically, then watched this and cried more. I love this show more knowing it was based on real beautiful humans ❤️ thank you for this teachable video!
Couldn't agree more!
Dorian is my favorite, there's just something about her that draws me in.
She’s brilliant and so much wisdom
Same. Her nonchalant wisdom.
There's a song from Blood Orange called Desirée, it has one of Venus' clips from PIB. Just beautiful.
Thank you for making this video!! Its a shame that so many people don't know this rich history. I tear up every time I hear Venus Extravaganza's story. You're SO correct that this needs to be taught to LGBT+ people, especially, so they know where the history of all of this comes from. I hear so many non-Black young people saying "realness" & "shade" & its sad to think they prob think its from Rupaul's Drag Race. Even the words "the drag race" came from these times. Great job on this very important topic!👏🏻
Thank you so much for your sweet comment, really means a lot 💖💖
watching PiB made me want to go back in time to protect Venus from whoever killed her
I feel that Candy and Elektra are portrayed as strong and fierce forces to be reckoned with. I loved their characters!
Candy Hammer time!
That thing mentioned at the end just made me realized why madonna and her dancers dressed as Marie Antoinette when she performed Vogue at the MTV music awards! I was just 4 when she performed that but if I'm wrong than I'm sorry.
Omg I wish I had made this connection before making the video! You’re so right thank you for pointing out 💖🤗
“Opulence! You own everything.” Such an iconic line!
"You know, just stuff like that ... " in such a matter of fact tone, really shows how normal this was as if she kinda had to expect it! It hurts how this was their reality.
Your voice is so relaxing 😭 and I LOVE THIS SHOW, from those of us not even in the LGBT community but appreciate the culture and the ART and the struggles that the movement brings. It’s a miracle this show exists, I hope this show gives people a deeper understanding of the LGBT and individual trans experiences as a whole.
I’m really not ready for this to be the last season I wish they would make more seasons we need more lgbt representation I don’t understand why they’d pull this show so fast I don’t like that
For real! We totally do 💞
Yes I was so sad :(

Thank you for this sweet comment, me too
I knew the bdsm client of elektras being in her closet seemed like a real story I had read.
Thanks for this video
I love this show, it really made me sympathise the plight of AIDS victims and those in the LGBTQi community.
I so loved this show. I was reluctant to watch it at first. However, this turned into my number one series of all. The struggles these people went through was admirable. I love each character and their pursuit in life and love. Beautifully done with class and that is what attracted me to this series. Xo
Very interesting video! The first time I watched Pose was after it made the transition to Netflix. I immediately became a fan of the show and watched every episode available. I fell in love with so many of the characters, but especially Blanca. It is really cool to see who these characters were based on in the early ball scene. Though I am a straight cis woman, I participated in a similar ball culture in the early mid 80s with many of my wonderful drag friends who are no longer with us. Every time you mentioned a member of early ball culture dying of AIDS, it took me back to the deaths of my three closest friends in 1989, 1991 and 1993. Best of luck with your transition! 💓
Thank you so much, lots of love
The world feeds heartily off of Black American culture.
What an entertaining, educational, and thoroughly researched video! Thanks for putting it together and honoring the show’s inspirations. Donated, sending you peace and love from the U.S.

Angie seemed to have been such a strong and caring mother and that in her 20s already! Wow.
I started watching Pose during the Pandemic shut down and bing watched the entire season it was Fabulous Bravo to all the cast well done.

Thank you so much 💖
Carmen Xtravaganza is a very good friend of mine. If I always admired her, I am admiring her even more. Now her story will always be for everyone to know, to enjoy to love. 😘
your voice is so warm and gentle, it’s perfect for telling stories/history
Thank you
I haven’t seen many POSE related videos; I’m so glad you’re talking about the phenomenal show POSE!
Thanks so much 💞
Angel is more like VENUS EXTRAVAGANZA AND OCTAVIA ST LAURENT
I love how Amani is talking as if he’s trying to keep the volume down for his roommate or something 😂 🥴 👏🏽
Lol I was and my pronouns are she/ her xo
Sometimes, I wonder if the “light-skinned characters” are non-black but just Latina played by Afro-Latina people because they never actually specified if Angel and Blanca were Afro-Latina despite having some of the phenotypes. They were just said to be Dominican and Puerto Rican. This makes the colorism aspect even worse. Still, it’s one of my all-time favorite programs even with the implicit bias situation.
Thanks for your comment, I agree!
The way I’ve been screaming this.
Well it is technically accurate in the ballroom scene that it was both black and brown people. And if Blanca was based off of Angie Xtravaganza--who was Puerto Rican, it makes sense. I do whole-heartedly, 100% agree that Candy's character should not have been killed off. We all know they're trying to educate the straights on the realities of being a trans woman of color, but there is zero excuse for killing one of the most sympathetic characters who had so much room to grow--not to mention Angelica Ross was one of the best actresses in the show. Period.
@@lolitabubbles26 Thinking more about it and reading more on people's displeasure with Candy's early death, I believe it's more or less that the writers didn't "earn" the death yet. Even if it's just "you don't get to know them before they're gone," that's can't work with a television show that *had* the time to get us to know them. For example, people said it'd be *more* of a teachable moment AND "earned" had Angel been the one to be cut short, since we knew enough about her and it would have hit MUCH harder for the audience AND the characters.
Instead, Candy's the one chosen and the only information we get out of her before she went was that she wanted to be "seen" and the many moments where she's swinging that hammer. Not to say that Angel being written off in such a way would've been an "improvement," but the season *did* start with the reveal that a photographer she was sent to for "professional shots" already clocked her and threatened to expose her after having her undress and unwillingly take those photos as "payment." A far better setup compared to last minute information from a weeping Lulu that Candy doesn riskier sex work at a rundown hotel to keep up with bills.
Not really, since Afro Latinos are still Black.
I just finished the series and I was balling in almost all of them! 😭🥺 It was such a wonderful, beautiful and eye opening series. Being born in ‘95 sometimes we do not know these past histories so it was an eye opening series for me! It made me appreciate all members from our rainbow even more! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much, I miss the series so much!
New subscriber! Fantastic video! I remember going to the movies as a teenager to see Paris is burning. What an iconic film that was. It literally transcended peoples expectations and changed mainstream culture.
Thank you for subscribing!
This was excellent thank you for educating us 💚
Thanks for watching 💞
There will never be another show like POSE, its tribute to ballroom culture, awareness of LGBTQ+ hate crimes and violence, and the AIDS epidemic from the 80s-90s were all executed with grace and left a statement.
Oh my gawd about Candy. I was so pissed. Everything bad was put on the dark girls especially Candy.
Your voice is so soothing. Much Love👑💕💕💕💕💕💕
So based on this during the final season of Pose:
(1) Damon Richards-Evangelista (played by Ryan Jamal Swain) gets infected with HIV and later passes away from AIDS;
(2) Blanca Rodriguez-Evangelista (played by Mj Rodriguez) dies of AIDS.
Chile I hope they dont make Blanca pass away I don't think I could handle it
Thanks for doing a deep dive on the character inspiration! And thank you for touching on colorism & violence against the trans community (particularly black trans women).
Love these receipts!!! Thank you for highlighting these amazing people's history.
Thank you for watching 💖
