    alma moreno's interview brought me here...and i couldn't avoid not to compare the two, manzano and moreno.
    manzano quoted, "you have to ask hard questions for you to know if the individual has the qualifications to be a member of the philippine senate"
    these words might not be the exact ones but i agree with him...compared to moreno's statement..more on laughing whenever she's having a hard time to understand the question/s and explain her answer right away..

    pancit bihon,somehow I can't reply under your post,but I'd like to point out that Mr Manzano mentioned that he acquired the US citizenship not by choice but by birth,his parents happened to be studying there when he was born,and he said taht by US law,anyone who is born there even when parents are just on vacation,is automatically a US citizen.But he is also a filipino citizen,which means kahit manumpa pa sya sa ilalim ng alinmang batas ng Pilipinas eh ok lang dahil filipino citizen din sya.I think the law that you stated is for those who has only a US citizenship,his case is different.He did not apply for it even.He has both citizenship,Philippine by blood and Amercan by birth.Would be unfair for him to give up one of those,just because he wants to serve in his motherland.

Kaya wala may karapatan magreklamo kasi in the first place, tayo ang naglagay sa kanila dun. Kung may maling nangyayari, its not always just one party who was at fault. Parehas na panig ang may mali. And another thing, life is always unfair. You cant do anything bout it. :)

    Edu, you better check this out, man.....if you have served in any political division of the Philippines which required you taking an oath of allegiance to the Philippines, you MAY ALREADY HAVE lost your US citizenship:
    Section 349 of the INA (8 U.S.C. 1481), as amended, states that U.S. nationals are subject to loss of nationality if they perform certain specified acts voluntarily and with the intention to relinquish U.S. nationality.
    2. taking an oath, affirmation or other formal declaration of allegiance to a foreign state OR ITS POLITICAL SUBDIVISIONS AFTER THE AGE OF I8 (bolding and emphasis, mine) (Sec. 349 (a) (2) INA);
    4. accepting employment with a foreign government after the age of 18 if (a) one has the nationality of that foreign state or (b) AN OATH OR DECLARATION OF ALLEGIANCE IS REQUIRED IN ACCEPTING THE POSITION (bolding mine) (Sec. 349 (a) (4) INA);
    Bottom line: you can't have your cake and eat it, too.....you either choose one or the other, instead of trying to enjoy the benefits of both.

    If you run for public office, you have to officially renounce your US citizenship. You cannot have a dual citizenship like ordinary Filipinos while being an elected public official, thats the law. It’s not enough that you tore your US passport in public. So if you remain a dual citizen, you would still be liable to be disqualified if you run again for public office in the future. Thats what Sen. Grace Po did before running for Senator.

Edu is truly smart enough to explain it to her. And he's right. Even if you tear/destroy your US passport apart, it doesnt matter and you will still remain as a US citizen because you had your US social, licenses and birth records. The only way for you to remove your US Citizenship is by renouncing it. And to think Karen is tagged as a smart journalist (sigh), she sounded so shallow and dull here. Didn't she learn that on Political Science 1? Smh

The way I understand dual citizenship is when you are in the Philippines and something happen to you there, the Philippine authority has the responsibility to help you. The truth, I would rather have the Canadian authority help me. I am scared of the corruptions in the Philippines. Pagpasok pa Lang nang airport feel mo na. Sorry to be realistic.

    actually, dito sa States questioned iyang jus soli principle na iyan, because some constitutional scholars here in the States maintain that the law applied only to the Negroes (the language of that time), and some say that the law applies to every person born in the country (USA) of foreign parents.

      +sunflowersarles Of course a passport is proof of citizenship!! Destroying his passport does not prove anything because such act does not change the fact that he is still a US citizen, If he chooses to be a full-fledged filipino, then he can simply give up his american citizenship. If his only reason to keep his american citizenship is so that he can travel to the US, then he can apply for a US Visa as a filipino. I'm sure the US embassy will be more than happy to grant a visa to a celebrity like him.

    He can renounce his American citizenship if he really want to be a Filipino, but the fact that he has not, it means that he (Edu) have a back up plan in case he decided to stay in the U.S. Edu is not telling everything. Now, Edu I dare you to renounce your American citizenship, in this case the Americans will not issue you an American passport anymore. I think you are lying since you are not telling everything. Or you can just tell the Filipinos that you still want to be an American and Filipino at the same time (you choice to have dual citizenship), Just tell us the truth that you still very much want to remain an American citizen.. You are manipulating the minds of the Filipinos by pretending that you don't want to an American anymore. (Lying? maybe)
