  • Original version of what later became "Edward The Bear" by the Damned. King was a one-off project that lasted all of two months in the summer of 1978 in-between the breakup of the original line-up of the Damned, and the reformation that led to the 2nd incarnation.

A hidden gem, the Captain / Badowski sound is strong in this.

Great song, I was lucky enough to have it on an IRS double punk compilation.

Written and sung by Henry Badowski. His original version is on You Tube.

Have loved this song from the moment I heard it...just love the sound (but then I'm a fan of Captain's solo stuff, so makes sense).

Susie Teacake it’s by Henry Badowski, a one time member of the Doomed.

Didn't know that the origins of this song go so far back. Great stuff!

Henry also rerecorded it for his solo LP Life is a Grand. He also released it as a single (on IRS).

Captain Sensible based his solo career around this style of music.

Also notable is the fact that Henry ripped the melody off from Brian Eno's song The True Wheel.

Apart from owning and treasuring the Henry Badowski LP (why no CD?) I know absolutely nothing about Henry despite some desultory searching on the Interwebs. Can anyone who is knowledgeable lay out the relationship between Henry, Captain Sensible, King, and not least Edward the Bear? Thanks...

Hey uploader, isn't this Henry Badowski solo? Yeah Sensible was in King 1978, between Damned incarnations. But I didn't know Sensible was on this song. PLEASE upload Edward the Bear 7" lol

Badowski re-recorded this on his solo album, but this recording is from a '78 Peel session when Captain was briefly in King. Also in this same session is an early version of Antipope.

Hey from USA. I've been loving Captain's recent Damned song Bad Weather Girl! Also just discovered The Russians Are Coming. Captain provides the great melodic sense which Crass lacked. But I would love Cap to be more blunt politically. USA has far right Biden being called communist by further right fascists

The far left scum are ruining the country and libs are pervs. Biden can't even walk and Kamala can't talk...so stfu, commie!
