  • Original Warner Bros. Records #5684
    Debut 12/25/1965
    Peaked at #1 for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
    Written by Tony Hatch
    Arranged & Produced by Tony Hatch
    I play this record first at normal speed,
    and then at the 3:15 mark, I slow it down by 3%.
    I actually prefer this song at the slower speed!
    This is the original mono mix as heard when this was a huge hit on AM Top 40 radio on stations like WABC New York.

    I never had ANY of Petula Clark on 45. I bought all of her LP's. But, I can tell the difference...the second play of the record is the correct speed. Wonder why? Hmm.. Anyway... I know what you are talking about. They'd all seen LP's but, my nephew asked me the other day what those (45's) are.... He was amazed when i played one for him. I mainly collected 45's w/ picture sleeves or where the single cut was different than the LP cut. Amazing Stuff, HUH?

    actually I have heard the "speeded up" version once before...but it was sped up by necessity to fit into time parameters. A contestant in the Miss America pageant ( and I do beliieve it was a Miss Georgia) sang this as her talent and got the whole song in the 2:50 time limit set for talent. Some people in the audience did clap along. Great song.

    The slower speed changes the key. Many radio stations during the Top 40 era increased the turntable torque, not decrease it. It shortened the playing time of the record, which allowed more time to air commercials.

    WOW! 3% makes a Big difference! Most oldies stations I have heard along the East Coast air the "fast" version (probably not even knowing this fact). Slower version is correct and just has more depth and punch to it. BTW, many Top 40 stations in the 1960's & '70's purposely "spead up" their songs so if you listening to another station playing correct speed it sounded too slow!

    Your experiment with recording speed is fascinating. I tested with a tuner--on my computer, the first version is in A major (modulates to Bb) at about A=444. Slow it down, the A drops to 441. Most modern tuning systems use 440, so the second version is closer to the pitch we all know. Of course, some symphony orchestras will tune up to 442 or 443 to get a brighter sound. I think the first version is brighter, but the second warmer (which goes better with the text) and so I like it better too.

  • @jubrickner
    @jubrickner Před 12 lety +1

    Has a lot more sound definition doesn't sound like it's being played in a tin box. And you Stanton cartridge does a great job reproducing the sound. I also have a Technics turntable slightly newer then the one you have with a Stanton needle I love the clarity and frequency response.

  • @1foryahweh
    @1foryahweh Před 11 lety

    I like what happened after you've changed the speed! I am looking for a Technics or similar Turntable, cuz I like the features it has, plus the fact that you can interchange headshells just by loosening that portion on the tonearm that holds it in place! That way if i want to use an Orofon Cart. I could easily manage changing it! Pretty nifty machine!

    I made a mistake in my last post--her love is warmer than the sunshine AND brighter than the stars, so I guess the slower version is not necessarily more faithful to the text. I still like the second version better, which seems to capture the depth of her voice better. Her tempos in various live performances vary substantially.

    we used to have a record player, wish I could remember the name, but we used it in the dance studio. you could alter the speed ( analog ) of any record. also FYI: in the early days of recording ( 1900-1920? ), many "78 rpm were recorded at or around 78 rpm, and some as fast as 79rpm. great job WABCRADIO77 (am ) . Now I'm very confused... To be honest (and I have perfect pitch, which can be a blessing and a pain in the ass at the same time!) the 45 release here in Australia on ASTOR AP-1192 (PYE in the UK) is only 'just' slightly faster than your playing at a 1/3 slower compared to the original WB pressing. I picked it up when I started listing to your version. You know what I'm thinking...!? So, basically yep, I agree, don't like the 'faster version' . . . Fascinating...

    Meu amor é mais caloroso que o mais caloroso brilho do sol;

    Meu amor é mais profundo que o oceano mais profundo;
    Bem mais extenso que o céu;
    Meu amor é mais iluminado que a estrela mais iluminada;

    E não existe nada nesse mundo,
    Que consiga mudar esse meu amor !
    Algo tocou o meu coração no dia em que te conheci;
    Algo que nunca havia sentido antes;
    E você está eternamente no meu coração;
    Não importa o que eu pense,
    E cada dia parece que te amo mais !!!
    Meu amor é mais caloroso que o mais caloroso brilho do sol;

    Às vezes pensava que o amor fosse feito para todos;
    Exceto para mim ;
    Às vezes pensava que você nunca cruzaria o meu mundo;
    Agora isso apenas me mostra quão errados;
    A gente pode estar,
    Pois, agora, eu tenho que dizer-lhe todos os dias:
    Meu amor é mais caloroso que o mais caloroso brilho do sol;
