It's a shame that the singers need to use (more or less discreet) microphones. I thought the art of singing was precisely about using one's voice in a concert hall.
The microphones may have been used only for the broadcasting/recording. They are necessary for that and sometimes the singers are wearing them in order to have the voices recorded as clearly and neatly as possible, allowing also for some equalizing in the final product. Having the microphones handy doesn't necessarily mean that the sound is amplified in the concert hall. Sometimes it is, other times it isn't. All depending upon the accoustics of the hall.
I saw the performance in person the night before. They didn't have microphones at all, there was no amplification going on. I believe it was only for broadcasting purposes for this live stream.
