- I just had to upload this. Does anyone remember this show? "Beast" Stan Zemanek is offended and goes at it with Jan Murray over country issues. Features the infamous "book-throwing" incident and classic quotes from both. From 2001.

Stan was sent to 3aw in Melbourne many years ago to host the drive time show. We couldn't wait to send him back to Sydney.
I'd say we got the better deal, having him back for his last few years on Earth. After all, the only other people moving from Sydney to Melbourne (apart from those who can't afford a house in Sydney, which is understandable) are gender studies students wanting to become permanent protestors and/or change from male to female.
I miss Stan ❤ He was so sweet to me. In 1995 I was 20, in hospital after a stroke just 6 weeks after giving birth to my son. I called his radio show from the hospital because I was depressed. Not only did Stan talk to me but he called me after the show, sent me flowers, called me for the following few weeks to check on me, sent me out to dinner at his expense and gave me a $500 voucher to go shopping for some new clothes and a voucher to have my hair and makeup done as well as organised a taxi for my special night out. He did this all behind the scenes. He was such a kind hearted man and i always be thanlful for the wonderful advice he gave me and for how kimd and caring he was toward me❤ R.I.P Stan.

I remember watching this when it aired. Pure Gold. Next episode they replayed it in slow mo and Stan referred to it as "the book throwing incident" admiring his work and comparing it to a Dennis Lillee bouncer!

Yes i remember when it aired in 2001 and i was so disgusted of Stan`s behaviour.Everybody has there own opinion on the show but Stan always thinks his are the only ones that count and matter.I stopped watching the show after this.

That loudmouth Stan could never be bothered to start any discussion with a truthful presentation of facts or, in this case, a straightforward, honest reading of a letter. Where did he get "I think you should go away..." or "and not in the city"? Misrepresenting a child is pretty low, as is throwing books. Nine-year-old Jacqueline could give that fathead a lesson in civility.
He was trying to make everyone think Jan was just blindly tearing down all country folk. What I heard, despite that arse's yelling, was Jan denouncing wealthy country dwellers who take the subsidies that are meant to help struggling farmers and the like.
I'm just not sure how he missed her head???

Stan Zemanek was a very very nasty piece of work. I watched this show numerous times and he always treated Jan Murray so badly. How on earth his family could tolerate him is a mystery to me, I would have been so ashamed to be associated with such a nasty spiteful petty man. No matter that he may have been a good loving husband, his character was always on public display and no wonder so many loathed him.

Stan Zemanek was just a clever "Showman" just like Rikki Lake, Jerry Springer etc. He took an angle, and ran with it. I believe most of his bravo was fake, acting, and just an "act". It makes for good entertainment, because there is nothing we love more, it's CONFLICT.

I used to watch this show during my university days...just loved it. I know Stan acted like a tosser and hated immigration and all but I simply had a ball watching the guy. RIP

@AussieRoadshow They had their good days but Jan certainly copped it from him the most. She would always try and be nice to him. Off the show they made up and had a good relationship long before Stan's death. I must be the only one who liked Stan as well... thought he was absolutely hilarious.
Jeannie came out with some funny crap (machine guns on the beach to stop boat people); Prue MacSween was another good one for that stuff. My favourite was always Ita though.

@darepow While this fight certainly was "for real", as were many others, a lot of the terrible things he said or did to the ladies on this program were just for show and the ratings, and he was close friends with many of them. Even he and Jan Murray patched things up in the end. I can understand why a lot of people didn't like him because of what they saw, but all of these beauties will attest to what a nice man he really was behind the scenes.
Obviously Stan seemed to lose it because of what Jan Murray said about John Howard in a disgrace of a rant.

Whoever is saying it was a 'time killing' show needs to get their facts right. From what I remember the show was produced by Foxtel and therefore kinda cheap for one of the Free to Air Networks like TEN to purchase. Either way this show helped TEN constantly win daytime ratings..
