Extreme Early Winter at the Cabin in the Woods of Canada

Winter has hit Canada early, with frigid temperatures far below normal, snow that won't melt and lakes that are already completely ice covered, much earlier than normal - we're in for another extreme winter at my log cabin in the wilderness. My Skidoo is helps me gather enough firewood for the bathhouse and the log cabin, which is going to be helpful in the coming months as I prepare the cabin for two full time occupants. Speaking of that, I start working on the small shed addition on the back of the cabin which will house a storage area and a composting toilet so that my wife doesn't have to go outside to use the outhouse in the middle of the night all winter.
My off grid outdoor meat locker is working fine with the cold weather, so I take out 2 lbs of ground bear to make bear soup with sourdough bread. Cali, my Golden Retriever, loves this weather and now that she's ready for cold weather, she finds the cabin too hot and spends most of her indoor time sleeping against the front door of the cabin on the cool stones.

@@marinzovko7113 . If you have money come to Romania and you can buy a whole forest, not just a place of land. Unfortunately corruption is prevalent in my country !!! It's a great shame, because Romania is on of the last countries in Europe that still has virgin forests of rare beauty...

When you hear the snow crunching underfoot like it was in your video you can tell the temp. Is very cold! I feel for little Cali's feet. I think you tried shoes on her, but it didn't work out so well. Its a good thing you got a lot of wood put up. It looks like you will need it. Keep your precious puppy warm and out of harms way. Brings back golden memories of my childhood in Canada. The days spent sliding downhill on a tobagon, the snow fights, the snow men that we made, caroling in the snow. That is the one thing movies never get right when they film a "winter" scene. The sound of the snow. Also how far sound travels when it gets cold. That and the fact that the actors never have snotcicles when they are supposed to be out in the cold😅
growing up as a child we kind of lived off the grid!we didn't have in door plumbing,running water and we had an out house behind our house,but we did have electricity and gas tank and in the winter we use our fireplace to keep warm,we had to cut our own wood for the fireplace!you had bring water from outside to cook,wash and bath!i can watch you all day and it bring back part of my childhood!

@@danbev8542 Id say heat is worse than cold. The cold you can dress outside. The heat is however a killer. Im a Norwegian and ive had many discussions with my friend in Kuwait who has it the worst. Yea hes 50+ celcius weather is worse than my -20 :D If you look at worker efficiency in the world, the more north you go the more efficient ppl work.

I've always thought it's amazing how winter has a pristine silence yet it's not at all absent of sound.
Shawn, you are getting better and better at the editing, sound blending with visual & story telling. keep blending till it becomes a movie with characters, music, and dramatic visual effects. one day at a time. i am headed your way in my life. it begins with a thought that you have crystallized. Let the peace come thru even in disorder, it shows the complexity and creativity of life.
I used to live like this, I mean I had to live like this in my teens and I never felt overburdened. I had no problems making firewood, building a fire inside the very crappy hearths and stoves we used to have. You were happy it was warm inside and I was a lot stronger physically and mentally than many of my peers. I was also able to qualify for college, so I moved into a more metro area where all the stuff I used to have to work for is provided automatically. It's been 15 years and I still feel empty in the afternoons, because that was the time I had to grab the saw and axe. I have started looking for nice little houses in a roughly nearby village, this whole thing is in my genes, I will never be able to appreciate comfort, it just keeps getting worse.

You are becoming a really fine film maker. It's great to see you progressing, not just in your film making skills but in all you endevour to do. I live in Spain now but spent 17 lovely winters in Ontario and it's such a pleasure to see the profound change of the seasons and the tasks you undertake to deal with the changes, Everything is planning. I find it really engaging. The med is spectacular and Spain is so varied but there is something so primordial and majestic about the forests of Canada. Beautiful and essential. I get a little tingle when I get an alert that you have posted a new chapter. Ontario weather is cold in the winter with the moisture! It's very damp which makes more chilly in winter and more humid and hot in the summer. I turned the heat on beginning of this October.
I had to burn some firewood in my fireplace in order to watch this!
Wow i dont even have heat in my furnace, only air cond. It does get cold here sometimes too.
