  • These Strawberry Oatmeal Breakfast Bars are beautiful, delicious, and easy to make, but unlike traditional jam-based fruit bars, they’re made with fresh berries, which means they’re lower in sugar. But, that’s not why you should make them. You should make them because they’re beautiful, delicious, and easy to make.

    1:40 they're called "old fashioned" rolled to differentiate them from quick cooking/instant oats. I think its also marketing, since it makes them sound older and more rustic as opposed to the modern processed instant oats.

    • @gnuthad
      @gnuthad Před 4 lety +3

      The modern variety of rolled oats is still rolled as per "old fashioned" rolled oats but then they're cut into much smaller pieces which allows them to cook and release their starch in a couple of minutes.

    • @ash3rr
      @ash3rr Před 4 lety

      In my country they are called 'whole oats' ... I abandon marketing hype when it comes to food.

    • @profesorqwertius
      @profesorqwertius Před 4 lety +7

      Well, there is a technological difference between those two oat products: *rolled oats* are made of pre-steamed oat grains that are pressed, which result in just pressed and slightly precooked flakes as we know them.
      *Instant oats* are made of oat flour: firstly you grind the oats to flour, then steam it and create small flakes of it. Instant oats have higher glycemic index and thus you feel hungry quite soon. Old fashioned rolled oats fill your tummy for greater time span.

      Judy D. You can definitely reduce the added sugar (would recommend). And it’s hard to come by unprocessed flours and oats. There really isn’t a health benefit to rolling your own oats so “processed” can sometimes be misleading.

      ... you have leftover strawberries? Mine never sit around long enough to be left over! I wait for this time all year. My favorite fruits are soft fruits, perishable and short-lived. My eyes roll into the back of my head when I see perfectly ripe, fragrant, dripping-down-your-chin-sweet apricots, berries and peaches at the grocery. The only favorite fruits I can't get where I live, are MacIntoshes, Concord grapes, and cherimoyas. You could always make fruit leather from your abundance, or preserves... and in the winter, it will remind you of warmer days. Xmas presents! ;)

    VERY good. Very easy. I made them with frozen blueberries and raspberries (defrosted them first of course). And I eeeeenjoooyyyed.

    If you don't have a strawberry huller a large open star piping tip does a great job.

    I made this. It was really tasty and a nice change from the typical strawberry short cake I usually make with fresh berries. Bet this would be really good with fresh wild black raspberries too.

    This is fantastic. I can't wait to make these for the little ones. I can do halves or thirds and it'll last forever! Plus because of... the thing.... strawberries are dirt cheap! Sadly, I heard California may throw out over a million pounds of strawberries because restaurants and other commercial buyers aren't able to buy. Aldi was selling a quart for a buck! They freeze well. Go buy some strawberries people and help the industry! 💗🍓🍓🍓💗

    These are delicious! I only had 1 cup of old-fashioned oats so I add 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts. Thanks, Chef John

    I've literally been thinking about relatively healthy desserts lately, this is the first Chef John recipe I'm gonna actually do, I usually just watch cooking videos lol
