There is a reason why there is a trophy for actors, a trophy for scripwriter, a trophy for the director and finally a trophy for the entire movie. You know, a movie, it's a visual story-telling, this is where the director has the biggest job. The direction in Lady Bird was pretty bland and academic. I mean litteraly, she was just filming people speaking with basic plans. When you have such great meastros who were nominated it's a joke to even think that Grewig deserves a nomination. Just look at Lady Bird and look at Shape of Water. The difference in skill is huge.
BobyJooba you are saying some bullshit out there. The director is almost everything for a movie. The entire movie depends on the director, same as the actors. Thats why the actors always say 'thank you' first for the director when they win, and That's why usually in the oscars when a movie wins in the main category, the director of the movie wins too. Greta should've been nominated and btw, she is nominated in the critics choice and the SAG awards. Golden Globes made a mistake with her. But thank god, her movie won and she could still do her speech.
I still dont understand how she wasnt nominated when her movie literally won. But dont worry. She is nominated for the Critics Choice Awards and the SAGs.
The CJ Country Morning Show...WCJW In Warsaw, NY. Going to be posting audio on my channel soon. Also had Laurie Metcalf & Lucas Hedges from the movie--all within a few weeks time.
Lady bird won best motion picture but Greta Gerwig who directed AND wrote the movie wasn't even nominated for best directors! EDIT : So a lot of people has been telling me "it's not about gender!" hum dude I never said it was!!! so please stop attacking me! YOU are making it about gender if you thought i was making it about gender in the first place. i was just making a statement for fuck's sake!
right! martin McDonagh and Guillermo both directed and wrote their films and were nominated but the buck stopped there, not Greta! Glad Natalie said what she did(love her)
Winning best motion picture doesn't guarantee a win (or even a nomination) for best director. If you think it's all to do with gender then you must remember that the Hollywood Foreign Press aren't exactly the most conservative award show academy out there. Still, there always has been a lack of female directors winning at the Globes. And also, the Globes are hardly a showcase of the best entertainment of the year. The Emmys and the Oscars are far more prestigious. Greta will most likely have more luck at the Oscars in March.
'Call me by your name'was also nominated for best movie but Luca Guadagnino was not nominated for best Director even though he has such a big name in directing compared to Greta. So stop making everything about gender or race.

Anthony Rapp didn't come out about his experience working with Kevin Spacey for three decades. 4 years later ... and ... yes ... the journalists screwed up the mood with the Woody Allen question. Then this tense mood and these may we go now faces🙈... TodayI still have a very shamefull feeling
TBF, if any up and coming person had the opportunity to work with someone in their field, with the critical acclaim of Woody Alan, most would. Its an amazing opportunity. Also while I personaly believe that woody Alan is a dodgy character. it is only ever accusations that have been put against him, nothing has ever been confirmed. and why should she be held accountable to his actions. I think it is very easy to push blame. She just won an award on her own merit. Woody Alan should never have been brought up. And life isn't black and white, perhaps she learned a lot from him, or he nurtured her creativity. She probably never experienced the behavior that has been suggested and thus feels she would be betraying someone based purely on hearsay. Which is also wrong. We should not live in a guilty by association society.
Why should Greta Gerwig be held responsible for something Allen has done? Its got literally nothing to do with her, let a successful creative woman have her damn moment in the sun FFS.
but this is the same argument that you can use for Weinstein and every other person accused of sexual harassment. There is quite a lot of evidence against Allen, no less than most who have been vilified recently. He shouldnt get a pass just because he's a genius. The entire show tonight was about the scandal, it is completely appropriate that this question was asked, you cannot say you stand with these women and against sexual abuse/harassment and not want to answer difficult questions. You're right any person in the creative industry would love to work with Allen, but if you make that decision you should have to deal with the ramifications that you have worked and thus supported someone with such horrible accusations against him. If you go by any argument you have made (and the arguments that people who have worked with him have) then those same arguments could be applied to Weinstein, Spacey and all the others. Just because they have no direct experience of abusive behaviours doesnt excuse anything, and you become part of the problem. If you are to have the argument that these claims are not confirmed, then every single condemnation of any actor in this scandal would be held by the same standard- they are not, and these actresses would never make such a claim
To be fair, when it gets to the stage where multiples of people are making the same accusations using the same patterns, then any reasonable person can ascertain that there must be an element of truth in it. As is the case with Weinstein and Spacey. Spacey also pretty much admitted it with he's "I don't recall" rather than flat no this never happened and his period of reflection. But my understanding of the Allen controversy is that he was accused of abusing his daughter by his ex wife. While I personally believe this may have happened based on the fact the he married his adopted daughter, it is to my knowledge the only accusation. And there is the possibility of sour grapes and manipulation there also from his ex wife as the kids were very young when this supposedly happened. It is also very easy for people to jump on the bandwagon and make accusations against people where nothing may have occurred, especially where these things are purported to have happened in other cases in the past, for instance several accusers of Michael Jackson have admitted he never did anything to them and they only accused him to try and get money and were pressured to do so by their parents. There is also this possibility here. While I believe that everyone should be heard and have a fair opportunity to prove an incident occurred and should be supported, I do not concur with your view that basically every accusation should be believed as gospel. If this was the case anyone could accuse anyone and ruin their life simply because they don't like them, or they took an advance the wrong way, or they are trying to extort cash or gain notoriety. Ultimately a person is innocent until proven guilty and accusations are just that, accusations. It should not be trial by media and a woman who clearly is a very nice, talented person should not be blamed for basically doing her job and working with somebody who has accusations against them. I imagine she has not earned big bucks in her career to date also, so she may simply like the rest of us have been glad to have a job and pay her mortgage and I don't think she should be vilified for that.
Greta Gerwig reminds me of a rounder version of Helen Slater. Very laid back, poised and maybe funnier version. Saoirse is glowing in this video. That dress, the hair, the glitter her skin is shiny!
this should have been one of the greatest, highest moments in her life - she's thinking about a hundred or more people and things - all unrelated to woody allen. then this schmuck reporter tried to trip her up so she can get a headline out of it. piece of shit.
i was expecting greta to redeem herself with a new answer to this question that she's been asked about time and time again, but once again she says a whole lot of words about nothing
@Pat H at almost all of the golden globe backstage interviews, questions relating to sexual harassment in hollywood have been asked - and rightfully so. of course there's a part of me that wishes filmmakers and actors/actresses alike didn't have to be bogged down with such a heavy topic during high points in their lives such as this, but sexual harassment is an issue that is in no way whatsoever courteous to its victims and so i don't think courtesy should be prioritised over spreading awareness in hollywood and making change.
Considering the theme of the entire night and the fact that she was standing there wearing black NO IT WAS NOT WRONG OF THE INTERVIEWER TO ASK THAT QUESTION. Is she didn’t wanna speak on the right things, she shouldn’t have worn black and given the false impression that she stands in solidarity
She was mostly home schooled when she lived in Carlow and the family later moved to Howth, where I also lived many years ago. She has a typical accent from that area, notwithstanding that her parents are also both from Dublin and have Dublin accents.
Greta had such a minor role in the Woody Allen film, I bet secretly she had hoped to work with him again but she has no choice but to be politically correct whether she really wants to reject WA or not
In this moment, let her enjoy this award. It's a shame the liberal and snowflake media attempt to make this about something else instead of her great film. At 34, she's achieved quite a bit, give her credit for the miles of challenge she had to go through to get here.
#YeahYeah🐦 #Oscars #LittleWomen #MoreWomen I am SUPER Happi Both Florence Pugh and Saoirse Ronan get the WOW Nomination but I am also SUPER Angry #SNUBBED that Greta Gerwig gets SNUBBED! WTFFF! How does a great Film like Little Women get nominated for BEST FILM, that is the direct result of the DIRECTORS BRILLIANCE yet is left out!! That is wrong on so many levels! BOOOOO! 🌟🌟 #academyawards #Hollywood #YeahYeah #WTF #gretagerwig #florencepugh #saoirseronan #girlpower #femmepower #GirlUP #USA #WORLDWIDE
Pretty hypocritical she wears black "in support of abuse survivors" yet avoids to speak out on the fact that she worked with Woody Allen, who was alleged to have molested his own daughter, and was disowned by his daughter, wife, and son for what he did. On top of that he MARRIED his stepdaughter, yet most of hollywood wants to act like they care about abuse survivors yet they still work with him and refuse to speak out against him in order to forward their own careers. Greta Gerwig is not a feminist and Lady Bird is one of the most overrated and mediocre films I saw last year.
Okay I want to hear everyone who’s seen the movie’s opinions: Would you even call this a “coming of age story?” I do not think the main character matured enough to even call it that. She seemed to stay the same entitled girl she always was from the beginning of the movie. Also, do you consider Lady Bird a “heroin?” She seemed to lack confidence or any sense of self. I would say she is very far from someone that teenagers should look up to. I was really disappointed in this movie. Seriously, I want to hear your opinions.
Sara Burns, I agree with you that the character of Lady Bird is not necessarily a role model, but she is a huge step in the right direction for coming of age stories. I grew up watching kids my age in movies and on TV have flawless bodies and get into their dream colleges without seemingly doing any work. Seeing a character who is flawed and makes mistakes is very important for young girls in specific. They need to know that failing and having flaws (like acne scars) is perfectly normal. I felt horrible when I saw characters who were my age breezing through life without making mistakes.
Sara Burns I don't think she necessarily HAS to be a role model; I don't think that would make it a better film, or even a good film. I think Lady Bird's story is incredibly relatable, especially as a young woman from a lower class family, and I think it was told in the most authentic way possible, with stupid, awkward high school experiences and mistakes that almost everyone has made in their teenage years. I absolutely think the character changed throughout the story. She learned several valuable lessons the hard way, about what makes a real friend, about what makes a good (or bad) romantic partner, and in the final moments of the film I think she has a HUGE realization of maturity and what family means to you as you grow older. Having gone through the struggles of starting college away from home a few years ago, I really related to the crazy feeling of suddenly seeing beauty in your hometown that you've always hated, seeing the love in seemingly harsh opinions of your parents, and all the adult wisdom that can come with those realizations that you don't get until you leave home. I couldn't disagree more with your comment, as Lady Bird was my favorite film of the year. But I really respect how you wrote your opinion and genuinely asked for others' thoughts. Yours is an interesting perspective.
Yes, I would call this a coming of age story. From beginning to end, Lady Bird learns to appreciate the role and gift of her mother and her town in her life. As a current college student, I can tell you that it legitimately took me 18 years to truly realize how much my mom did-and does-for me, and how much of a badass she really is. I do consider her to be a heroine. Especially thru the eyes of Greta Gerwig. She said that Lady Bird was someone she was not, and someone she did not have the ability to be. I don't see myself looking up to Lady Bird, I see parts of myself /in/ Lady Bird. In the way that she dances with Jules at prom, in the way she interacts with her dad, in the way she finds herself sometimes trying to be someone she really isn't in order to win the affections of someone. That is human, and this is life. I'm thankful to see a movie like Lady Bird, who is human- complex and flawed, with a heart, and a dream.
I think you should watch the movie again because the character arc is pretty prominent from my perspective. She's still young and only starting college by the end of the film, so of course she's not at a peak level of maturity, but her experiences in Sacremento and the way her relationship developed with her mom and the other people in her life definitely seemed like a coming of age experience to me. You can even see this subtly by her symbolically changing her name back to Christine and starting a new chapter in her life... I just graduated high school and in regards to your second comment I don't think the main function of a coming of age story is for teens to necessarily 'look up to' a character but rather identify with them, and I think that's one of the reasons the film is getting so much buzz because it's a truly accurate depiction of some of the 'phases' I suppose, you go through in high school. I know everyone's experience is different but I could personally relate to some of the emotional states of ladybird. Also, I think lacking confidence and not knowing exactly who you are when you're a teenager, is pretty damn normal, the whole point is navigating your way through and figuring it out for yourself, in this way I think fellow teens can admire her. Although even in Ladybird's case, she did what she wanted to do, said what she wanted to say and had a pretty unique identity she repped so can you really say she didn't have "any sense of self"? This is just my opinion btw everyone is entitled to theirssss (:
'Lady Bird' is a coming of age story, seeing Christine try on all of these different characters and sort of try to figure out who she is and where she's going is something every teenager deals with at one point. She's not entitled, I think she just has a sense of what she wants and she's not afraid to just go for it, which inspired me, being a very dramatic 17 year old girl myself. I consider her a heroin. She's outspoken, she speaks her mind and at times, I agree, she lacked confidence in herself, but that itself is very much relatable, because plenty of teens feel this way, including myself. It was really nice seeing a girl my age who doesn't have everything together and sort of just embraces it. I left the theater feeling wholesome, it was just so good. 'Lady Bird' is just so pure and electric. It's a beautiful coming of age story.

Wait...when Greta and Saoirse are yelling “Go Sam! Well done Sam!” are they yelling at Sam Rockwell?
probably sam levy, director of photography of the movie
I think Sam Elliot from a star is born lol
Isn't wired she wasn't nominated for best director? But her lead was nominated and won and the film itself was nominated for best picture?
Greta Gerwig reminds me of a rounder version of Helen Slater. Very laid back, poised and maybe funnier version. Saoirse is glowing in this video. That dress, the hair, the glitter her skin is shiny!
Why do I keep replaying this interview???
Did i hear it right? GMA Philippines?
i ship
gma philippines. kaway kaway mga noypi
Filipino
They mentioned GMA network
First question from GMA Philippines? Hey haha
*Lady Bird won Best Actress and Best Comedy and her director wasn´t even nominated in the best director category, what a shame HFPA*
What was exciting about Lady Bird?
greta didnt answer the question very well, she must be so nervous, but anyways they are too amazing
Saoirse so gay for Greta. I'm obsessed with Greta. I love them. Stunning, intelligent go on womens!!
I freaking love her
their faces change 4:15
yeah, don't answer the last question.
I never see Greta I only see Frances
Hollyweird
Asked about Woody Allen.
Greta: Basically, No comment.
Second the interviewer said “woody allen” she was scared shitless. Waitta totally answer the question without answering ps saoirse ure perfect
I’ve never understood why people can say definitively he is guilty or not. Both sides said shit and at the end of day the man was found not guilty.
greta's answer to the woody allen question :/
Very disappointing answer
this should have been one of the greatest, highest moments in her life - she's thinking about a hundred or more people and things - all unrelated to woody allen. then this schmuck reporter tried to trip her up so she can get a headline out of it. piece of shit.
Pat H I agree, to a certain extent. But she’s been asked this question before and has been similarly disappointing
i was expecting greta to redeem herself with a new answer to this question that she's been asked about time and time again, but once again she says a whole lot of words about nothing
Soirse look like Tom Hiddleston with that haircut lol
saoirse ronan was born in america and raised in carlow so why does she put on a dublin accent ?
She was mostly home schooled when she lived in Carlow and the family later moved to Howth, where I also lived many years ago. She has a typical accent from that area, notwithstanding that her parents are also both from Dublin and have Dublin accents.
She's lived in Dublin for most of her life & her parents are from Dublin too. She only lived in Carlow for like 6 years.

Greta had such a minor role in the Woody Allen film, I bet secretly she had hoped to work with him again but she has no choice but
to be politically correct whether she really wants to reject WA or not
Why is Greta so excited
8 Ball.
herself and saoirse scissored each other later that night
In this moment, let her enjoy this award. It's a shame the liberal and snowflake media attempt to make this about something else instead of her great film. At 34, she's achieved quite a bit, give her credit for the miles of challenge she had to go through to get here.
I saw the movie and thought it was ok. Don't see the hype

Are they gay
I did not like this movie.
I think she's beautiful but saoirse looks a bit like pee wee Herman with her hair pulled back like that.
Overrrated.
The last question is so rude for this kind of event.
why ?
wonderful movie...but greta seems so jealous when saoirse speaks!
both of you ladies kick butt!
share the spotlight - you both deserve it
Okay I want to hear everyone who’s seen the movie’s opinions:
Would you even call this a “coming of age story?” I do not think the main character matured enough to even call it that.
