    I'm from America, and I do believe this truly is the best fishing channel on CZcams, if not the internet. I'd rather watch this channel than almost any American fishing channel.Although I'll more than likely never use any of the tips or rigs for saltwater that are shown, I'm always excited to see any of the videos because they are so entertaining and fun to watch. thank you for all the tips, tricks and laughs.

    I use hard heads more as they have greater density so I can get them to smoke closer to the boat's wake/bubbles.Softs I find I have to run a bit further back to pop/smoke at the right intervals and that means they might be out of the central spread. I have a "secret" spread pattern and like uniformity if I can get it.I also rotate the angle of the lure head so the back hook is facing down,where the lower jaw is softer.Roof of the mouth is much harder .

    Have tried shrink tubing and also surgical valve rubber.

    Used to buy Ande line and Hi-Seas mini double crimp sleeves from Capt.Harry's Fishing Supply in Miami when I was over there .Got the hooks from Mustad,but Capt.H or other outlets should hold/order them for you. They should tell you which size crimp for the leader you buy.I used 2.2mm for 400lb Ande clear.Other makes might be different.

    Rubber bands will do as well. Also, 180 degree rigging is dangerous for the fish and can reduce hook ups. Riding vertical, they can wire a fish's mouth shut and running horizontal the fish can bite down and not hook up. 60 degrees seems to be the butter-zone for offset.
    I use mostly soft headed lures like you do, but I'm moving towards hard resin head lures for physics reasons (less friction across the mouth, lure slides through and hooks find mark during strike). What's your view on that?

  • @jordythebassist
    @jordythebassist Před 11 lety

    I see a couple of things in your rigging I would change, instead of the 7731 hooks, use the 7691 and rig them with heat shrinking in a semi-stiff rigging, leaving a bit of room for the hooks to move. It allows for better lure action and the semi stiff rigging allows the hooks points to ride straight. I used to use tape like that and didn't always rip when fish were hooked and allow free movement as the fish is fought.
    Also, not heat flaring of the tag ends in case of crimp failure??

    Have no idea what "flick fishing" is .We have a trout cast over here called "ping" casting where you hold the fly,tension the rod and then release it.Used for margin fishing for rainbows and browns .Or otherwise known as the "Catapult" cast .Maybe that's what you mean.I do quite a bit of trout fishing /close range but never heard it called "flick fishing".Different areas of the world,different names I guess.

    Interesting - I don't like to try hook marlin in the lower jaw because of the same reason you target it - I find it's too soft. If hooks are sharpened right, I find that they'll find their mark in the tougher upper jaw in Blue and Black Marlin and stay in because they simply hit a lure that hard they hook themselves. Striped Marlin are a little more sloppy with hitting lures so skip baiting and switch baiting is a good way to get a solid bite.
    Interesting to see such varying opinions!!

    80lb would be average for blues .50lb test would maybe be OK but is going a bit towards light.130 is for big reels and fish over 500 .Depends on the species of marlin. Striped marlin are a lot smaller and you could use 30.Even so I prefer 50 for them,just in case Mr Blue pops up in the spread.

    would you use a doorknob with a ballyhoo in the shirt?

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  Před 7 lety

      No,not personally,the Laminar flow design of the Doorknob is for high speed trolling and I feel any Ballyhoo would break up at high speed,even if wired on with number 9 single strand wire.
