Don't understand all the bashing. They are obviously not going to say the rival is better. It's a promotional video. Get it. And what they mentioned about Tesla is actually not too far from the truth (two years waiting time for a Model 3 can surely be seen as "production difficulties").
Maybe we should just take a moment to appreciate that someone is putting tons of money into a new tech, which is ultimately going to benefit the consumer. If you ask me, while the car might not be as revolutionary as the model S was, it's still helping to improve electric mobility.
And just look at those amazing rear-view mirrors...
And the build quality...
I'm reading all these pro-Tesla posts. I drove a Tesla and it was like driving a Lego toy compared to the e tron. The Tesla was whistling in the cab at 70mph. By comparison, the e tron was completely quiet. It's why I purchased an e tron after test driving all the EVs.
After owning a 2021 etron for a while now and I am impressed. The air ride is top notch, and on long trips is as good as my old A8. Around town I love the fact that I don’t have to wait for my engine to reach operating temps to drive normally. I only wish I could have about 50 more miles of range out of a 80% charge.
We're hardcore Toyota/Lexus and never thought about ever purchasing a German vehicle, let alone an Audi. We found this EV out by accident 2 weeks ago and I'm so glad my wife bought it. It's amazing on snow and ice over here in Central Texas during our snow storm/freeze, blew my mind, it's like driving on asphalt. I am positive these Continental SportCross XL also play a good part of the dry/wet/ice/ and snow grip. The interior is very good, finally got rid of the laptop screen above the vent and has more touch interface. This car can easily obsolete all my purpose built vehicles (all in one vehicle, E-Tron).
Wish it had the dual motors in the rear for Torque Vectoring though. :(
The E tron s has tri motors, but i guess it comes with a higher price...
After viewing this documentary. I ordered a blue color E-Tron. We have so many choices here in China. I rather pay a premium price for my family's safety and comfort. Audi is not only just a brand name but also expertise and culture. This E tron is my third AUDI and 5th from VW. lol
CANNOT wait for all of Audi's future e-trons, especially the gt!
Congrats on this nice, honest, detailed video!
I really appreciate that you made this documentary about development. Continue with it, show more what are you doing. Show less plain talking managers and show more true engineers who really create the car and value of the brand.
I JUST LOVE AUDI...

We are very happy with our long term Audi Etron which joined our fleet in March.. Looking forward to many years of happy driving.. Our 6th ev in 9 years
Whether this is a _documentary_ (factual report) or a promotional video is in the eye of the observer, I guess.
It IS a promotional video!
Well... It's an Audi video on the Audi CZcams Channel, so... it's a promotional video Reto.
Funny to see Tesla fans reactions here. Real car manufacturers are coming guys!
One advice, leaders don't have need to talk about competition. If you have need to compare yourself to somebody else you are behind... 😜😏Work harder.
Thank you Audi for illustrating why Tesla engineering while interesting has numerous shortcomings. The quality assurance techniques illustrated throughout the video are illustrative as to why Tesla will have profitability problems. The root cause of the higher than normal quality assurance issues and service / repair costs at Tesla can be traced to their need to rush cars to market and the limits of their automotive expertise in engineering and quality assurance.
There was shortage of Etron parts for body shops when etron was released. Etron has a ton of custom parts that are not common for MLB ICE cars
So much Tesla fanboying going on in the comments. Meanwhile I can't wait to see the new e-tron GT and Q4 e-tron to arrive in showrooms
Trades46 Those two are something im really excited for. Even tho we have an Audi Etron on order its still cool to see what they make out of the normal etron.
looooooooool! Das ist da erste mal, dass ich ein deutscher Hersteller in einem Promovideo mit Namensnennung schlecht über die Konkurrenz reden sehe. Ihr fürchtet euch wohl wirklich... :D
Strange. They make it sound like they are breaking new ground when all they are doing is following in Tesla's footsteps. Still, I hope they make 100,000+ per year. The world needs to accelerate its transition to sustainable energy and this would push things in the right direction. Best of luck Audi.
First EV that makes me look at replacing my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. However the price and perhaps the range is not there yet but it looks very promising now.
Just WOW
The thing I noticed is silence. We are used to the motor sound to know you are powered and moving. Could a speaker be installed to illustrate the once used motor sound when the electrical system engages?
Tesla has production problems, okay probably, but at least they already build their 4th electric car model while Audi still struggles to get the first one on the market. Who has the problems now?
Already has trailer certification? Why were you still testing pulling a trailer slowly on the autobahn close to Ingolstadt about 3 weeks ago then?
And that lightning bolt thing in Berlin doesn’t illustrate anything
Why would you pull Trailer +120km/h. Illegal at many countries to go more than +80km/h with Trailer
@@klegolas4088 to find out what the stability control or the drivetrain does under high stress for example
Interessant dass Audi auch andere Hersteller erwähnt in ihrer "Doku"
Did they test the car at a Drive-In theater? My Audi A3 etron lost 40% of charge (8 miles), sitting in the drive-in for 3 hours' movies. And no heater or AC was on; just the stereo
Quite sure theres more important things to test than Drive-in theaters. QQ

First, there was Truth in 24. And now this! Vorsprung durch Technik!
Was originally set on Tesla Model S, decided to go see the Etron Premier, pleasantly surprised. Now, can not decide!
3:44 "The e-Tron is Audi's first all-electric vehicle and the first in the entire Volkswagen group" Nonsense: What about the e-UP! and e-Golf? I am driving the latter daily and it is an excellent 100% electric car. They continue "...with all other electric cars to date, the electric drive was simply installed in the existing bodies". They mean all other VAG electric cars to date (lie e-Golf). Whoever made this video didn't care too much for accuracy. Cone on, VAG, we are still waiting for the VW EV range: time to get your act together.
It’s Audi Communications, not a bunch of pointy German engineers ;)
Still waiting for an A4 or A6 e-tron. Don't only do SUV's because everyone wants them.
All these Americans here in the comment section trying to protect the only car company they can be proud of. As usual, Germany will soon overrun Tesla
i don't think so
2 years later... Still nope
Tough competition: the deciding factor Could end up being the best charging strategy. Audi has the advantage here? It CAN charge at 150 KW at the 3 or 4 Chargers in the US. Come talk to me when you have a charging network like Tesla. I agree a bit of humility would be in order. Seriously large battery but my Model S has 249 mile range on 75KW instead of 95KW
Coming to talk to you now that Electrify America has done a great job expanding the 150 network. Still not where Tesla is, but your negative comment won't age well. Not sure why you would want to support a major OEM in their attempt to electrify.
19:48 Sooo german: Test engineers sitting in Berchtesgarden drinking beer :)
I would more readily trust an engineer that drinks beer than one that drinks soy.
I like Audi.
If they have to finish it, that means that there is still work to be done, work usually is done on different problems so there is no way for it to be perfect.
Super
Now start working on the services after sales, an dbeleave and work together with customers to solve issue.
My A3 etron still gots the same charging issue after 3year

A GIGANTIC 95kWh battery for a range of 400km... I call that pretty unefficient.
Try again, Audi. And try to be a bit more humble too. Without Tesla, this car would have never existed.
@pxidr the WLTP range is 466km but need formal approval
@@morbjerkn nope, I read about 400km WLTP on most websites.
pxidr Audi stated more than 400km. It’s now confirmed to be 466km but still pending formal confirmation from authorities.
Pretty inefficient? So what? A Toyota Aygo is also more efficient. Does that make it a better car?
Range is for plebeians

is there a german version of this?
Hi there, you can find it on our Audi MediaCenter here: bit.ly/2ES1xFi Greetings from Ingolstadt
Oops, Seite nicht gefunden!
Really funny: Reinventing a new side mirror for aerodynamic reasons but bringing a suv on the market! I would say a suv isn't a matching car for 95% of the customers because of just city traffic, but let's do a little bit of green washing.. what's about the idea of making a real efficient car? Less than 10kwh per 100km?
Range is all about number of batteries... and cost of the batteries that is why Teslas are more expensive, you are just paying for the batts
@@conradpaul489 not true, compare Rivian and Tesla. Both of them have comparable range, but Tesla can squeeze out those miles from a smaller battery. Smaller battery means less weight - which improves handing and cuts down on wear and tear plus increases useful payload of the car.
So efficiency (# of miles covered per 1 kWh does matter). If battery degrades these inefficiencies just get more pronounced

@15:00 all this regen is going to come at a price for people in colder climate. Road salt will make the brakes rust and if you don't use them you'll have to replace the discs after one or two years.
Every xxx miles or after a certain period of not using the brakes, they are lightly activated by software. Indeed to prevent rust on the discs.

he didn't say anything that inappropriate. competition is always good when dealing with technology.
The problem is we are still talking about very expensive 100K cars, people want 30K electric cars with some fair range
true, but need start somewhere. prices will go down by the time and when they start make other models than SUVs. Also adds more electric cars to secondhand market
Problem is the battery pack alone is $15000. That can work for very expensive cars but not for the mainstream.
No, some people want high quality cars. No matter the price.
@@whateverrevetahw6846
Battery packs outlast the cars. No need to replace them.
Charging at 150kW is not fast now. Shell is rolling out 350kW charge stations around Europe and I believe Jaguar and Porsche are the only two that can charge at this rate. 10 mins to charge your car with these points.
Only Porsche can.
Exact same story with how all EVs are created. The Renault Zoe or a Tesla have gone through the same testing (minus the over-kill tenacity). Also, 5:45 adhesive paste? E-Eughh! That's going to be a fucking nightmare to service/salvage several years in the future. Audi whyyy?
Maybe if Audi got rid of the giant, useless fake grill on the front they'd have fewer aerodynamic issues...
Pretty sure the Germans know what they are doing. As you can see they are testing rigorously and they have a shit ton of resources to get this shit right not to mention the production capability
I don't know if it's the grille, but I agree they need to improve coefficient of drag in order to compete with Tesla.
They shrink the intake size on e-tron. The intake is still needed if you want to cool down your vehicle in hot weather. Of course you lose some coefficient, but I prefer the temperature comfort over +20 miles. That's why they developed the side mirrors, to compensate the drag coefficient. They would be able to create better drag coefficient, but they didn't want to sacrifice comfort and audi style.
Ladislav Tánczos I understand there is still a need for a grill and cooling as EV’s still have radiators. But radiators in EV’s are much smaller than their gas counterparts. A small opening or slit would do which is effectively what the car has hidden in the giant fake grill but it’s pretty obvious that the big ugly grill on the E-tron is mostly fake. Why have an ugly fake grill? Why not a small practical grill instead with a much cleaner front end?
They’re using oil car design language on a whole new type of car. It would be like having all of today’s cars still look like horseless carriages. Tesla and Porsche have moved on from fake grills already. An electric car with a giant, non-functional grill is just dumb.
@@khanyithegreat Apparently they don't because the km/kwh numbers are complete shiit.
I was impressed to see the competition mentioned, but there really was no need to shit on Tesla. For all their faults, Tesla is the reason this Audi even exists, and even with their production problems they still are and will be producing in much much higher numbers than VW. A little bit of humility from a newcomer to the EV world wouldn't hurt you Audi.
How hard can it be to design a hole where air should go in? And I think it will be so expensive because you also have to pay the two guys to reset your charge port cover
Talk to me again when you have the charging network.
Nice to see that Tesla got Audi's ass in gear to build electric cars.
Unfortunatly, like the Jaguar i pace, electric consumption is not on par with Tesla cars.
courcheval exactly, 30% out unfortunately relying on Chinese batteries as they don’t have a solution yet....
Tesla cant match audis quality in anyway period
Not even close. I own both and my e-tron is on a another level.
Audi can’t match Tesla’s range or efficiency (kWh/100 miles). Efficiency is just as important as luxury
The mindless use of capacitive buttons and touch screens brings the etron closer to Tesla - and the worst of Tesla usability really.
„42% heavier than the A1“? More like 110%. I guess the A1 is 1.2 tons and apparently the etron is 2.5 tons
They make it sound so special like they invented something new... still I see a regular Audi with technique that other brands already implemented.
Has it been driven into a cold lake and reviewed the results?
Great, now they only need to make the actual car.
Oh they sure will, when they know it's time.
Better late than make your bumper fall of duo to little rain on the streets like Tesla cars, or catching fire for no reason, and many other HUGE mistakes of early release by Tesla.
@@Arttyor Yeah, yeah ... the bumper falls off of Model 3's when ever it rains. And then it catches fire. Sure.
I love audi
Video camera side "mirrors" are rather nice gimmicks. The responsiveness (lag) of picture and dynamic range of the sensors is not yet there. Also there is the another problem, when you are looking down at the screen in the doors your are missing what's going on behind side windows with your peripheral vision and therefore you are not aware of any danger from side space at the same time. 👀🤷♂️
Audi, rather improve air drag of the whole car body before you cut off side mirrors. 👈
Camera mirrors cloud be big improvement for the driver if used like helper with traditional mirrors.
Why does it have a grille?
Because it needs air.
About Tesla Model 3: "Production problems in particular has damaged its image".
So tell us, Audi - how come the Audi e-tron has been delayed? You're having production problems, you say? Interesting ...
That charging flap….
Porsche should handle the EV development of the VW group since they build electric driven tank like the elefant
All good but overall efficiency!? What about that. How far will this vehicle go at 100km/h constant speed at -5*C weather if we measure 50kWh from the EVSE?
I'll put my money with German technology every time before Tesla
People saying how many problems Audi is having with making the e train but Tesla had a lot of problems to just down want to show it

"Tesla is the ONLY reason for the e-Tron to exist."; Nonsense. The reason E-tron launched now and many more electric cars comes in 2019 are the new EU emission rules that comes in 2020 and 2021.

2. recuperation is nothing "revolutionary", every e-car has it. Come on, Audi
3. This car is not better than a Model X, but it is developed years after the model x. Wtf?!
4. To talk about Tesla's "production problems" is so lame, Audi. Why can't you bring the e-tron to market on schedule ? Software-problems ? So who has production problems now ? If you had a superior product, which you clearly have not, you would'nt have to talk about a competitor and its problems.
5. Go home to Ingolstadt and try again.
I believed it mentioned in the video that etron keeps a larger buffer compared to tesla

Anyone with Tesla stock needs to prepare them self for what happens when the German three moves on to the EV market, with them and also the other classic car companies of the world showing up the EV scene is getting crowded. So the question is Tesla up to the challenge.
Tesla is like apple, and german car makers is like NOKIA, same story. You will see.
Why would other car makers disturb Tesla production numbers ? There is 1 billions vehicles in the world who eventually will be replaced with EVs, with today World EVs production numbers that will happen in 200 years.
