    Jason Cousteau odysseys. Thanks for sharing

    Poor Catalina. It looks like a Catalina 30 or 27 but I cant tell for sure, sad either way. I had a Catalina 30 and I loved that boat, I wish I could have kept her.

    Love the under water shots. Looks like rain water probably sunk that boat. I’ve always wondered if those cheap air cooled Chinese outboards were any good.

    Hey Jason. We’ve got the same dinghy from WM and 2.5 Suzuki for past two seasons. We similarly have a 28’ and usually just two of us. The dinghy has been great getting to shore. Easy to lift and store in bow. Highly recommend. Enjoy!

      Cool, thanks for letting me know! I don't know that we will use it much but really got it for when we go to the keys as it will be like a mile to shore from the field, and I don't want to row that (or take an hour to get there). We kept our other dinghy in the bow but rarely have to use it.

  • @mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101

    Cant wait for the Keys trip. Also interested to see how that outboard performs. Looked super light.

      it's about the same as any 2.5hp out there... they all do about 4 knots... nothing too exciting by better than rowing a long distance. It starts up like a new motor and idles nice. I watched a lot of videos about it and did the simple things to make it work better. Since I understand small engines, I thought it might be fun to try one, plus I can't spend $1,000 on a motor to use a couple of times each year. I ran it for a few hours in a trash can to break it in and I'm still on the high-oil content break in fuel for another tank.

    Having recently tangled with my marine head, as I watched you swim around in that wreck, al I could think was "I hope that holding tank isn't leaky." Ick. Otherwise, another fun video. 🙂

    I've been looking for a dinghy for a while. I ended up getting a small 8ft kayak that I just tow behind my Catalina 25. Uninflated, I guess you can also use that as an emergency raft. It's nice that you can just put that in the cabin until you need it.

    • @AdventuresInParadise
      @AdventuresInParadise  Před rokem +1

      The cheaper longer one was more stable and easier to row, but not as thick of material. The kayak works, we've done that also.

    I bought one of those dinghies. The seams unglued themselves in no time and I had multiple unrepairable leaks. I junked it for one of those cheap ones you had, which has now lasted years

    • @AdventuresInParadise
      @AdventuresInParadise  Před rokem +1

      I like that Sam Holmes has a cheap one and sails around the world with it. I sent in my warranty card. We're very infrequent dinghy users and we prefer to use paddle boards when possible. I'm going to inflate it less than full. I do that on our paddle board also, 1 psi less just in case it's in the sun. The manual for the dinghy said not to inflate it all the way and then leave in the sun as the high-pressure increase might damage it.

    • @diskotroop1545
      @diskotroop1545 Před rokem

      @@AdventuresInParadise Ditto. My inflatable SUPs indicate 15 PSI - I keep never go above 13.

    • @superwag634
      @superwag634 Před rokem

      @@AdventuresInParadise I didn’t ever store it inflated. I stored it deflated below deck. The adhesive just wasn’t up to quality required. The handles and row locks all started to peel off by themselves. The guys at the shop just shrugged their shoulders like they had seen it many times before. Anyway, maybe you’ll get luckier than me

    how much was the motor?

    @BrianJoyce-dk2sg Před rokem

    Why not go with an electric motor?

    • @AdventuresInParadise
      @AdventuresInParadise  Před rokem

      If you look up the required electric power to match even the smallest outboard, it's not worth it. If you can even come close to the power of a small gas motor, the price is too high. 2hp Electric is $2,500. The other thing to consider is that after I made this video I've never used the outboard since. Just haven't had to.
