  • In this episode of SKILLS AND WELLNESS, Nathan is going to show you some important exercises that can help seniors improve one of the most necessary skills for older adults for maintaining your independence, mobility, and quality of life.
Why is this skill so important? Well, getting up from a chair, a couch, a bed, or even a toilet requires strength, balance, and coordination. Unfortunately, as we age, we tend to lose muscle mass, bone density, and flexibility, which can make getting up more difficult and increase the risk of falls and injuries.
But don't worry, there are some simple and effective exercises that you can do to prevent or reverse this decline and make getting up easier and safer. These exercises will target the muscles of your legs, hips, core, and upper body, as well as your posture and breathing. You can do them at home, with minimal or no equipment, and at your own pace and comfort level.
Before we start, make sure you have a sturdy chair, a lower chair or a stool, and a wall nearby. You may also want to have a pillow, a towel, or a resistance band for some of the exercises. And of course, always consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program.
