I was really impressed that the items in the pack actually matched! Same colors, coordinating colors, similar patterns. It actually looks like the items go together, and I really appreciate that. And even the kind of out there colors look nice.
The empty nursery idea is so well fitted in here because of those spooky crying baby sounds from haunted houses. Oh and the shirt is great:))
When it comes to knowing what color oak and birch is, just think about minecraft or stardew valley blocks and furniture;)

Kayla, I really appreciate your reviews of packs and expansions of the Sims. And with the wood thing, usually it's the colour and texture of the wood that will indicate what type of tree it came from. Stains can play tricks with the colour, but generally when you get an idea of what type of wood is used for specific types of furniture, and the price too, you can usually tell what type of wood it is.
I enjoy this house so much! Simsie you're so good at making houses plsss even when you're doing it from a reference you just do it so well

Honestly Simsie you sold me on this pack the second I saw the build/buy items, I LOVE THEM. I never drop full price on packs but for this one I'm absolutely doing it. Also I'm obsessed with this house, it reminds me of the Charmed house and that's been my dream house since I was a kid so 100% downloading this the second I get Paranormal

I recognize woods, somewhat. Basic pine is easily recognisable(most raw wood stuff at home improvement stores is pine), and some "exotic" woods are very distinctive, like mahogany or ebony. But woods can easily be stained, color can depend on location/exact species of a tree, or they can use veneer of more expensive wood on body of cheep wood. So unless you're, like, really knowledgable , it's guesswork anyway :)
After seeing this build, I really wanna buy it now.

there are certain types of wood that get used more often (birch, bamboo, walnut etc.) & you can usually easily identify those without being an expert
one the pandemic is over just go furniture shopping & you'll definitely recognize them quickly :3
The boho vibes of this pack is literally what drew me to it! More than the paranormal aspects and the potential to revive that ghost guide dude and marry him, the bohemian vibes of the furniture satisfied my needs to build a boho chic apartment in San Myshuno. 10/10 would rec this pack for the build buy alone. Even with it's boho vibes, it manages to still be very versatile.

It amuses me when Americans say "an old house, probably like 100 years old"... I say from my house which was built in about 1830, and isn't regarded as special in anyway ...
Simisie, since my dad was into antique radios, cars, and furnishings, I learned all about cabinet and furniture woods like cherry, walnut, types of oak, types of pine, maple, mahogany, birch, and alder. This short list is worth learning about, since each has its pros and cons for uses, they are all beautiful, and any one can be stained a color of the other, but retain its unique grain characteristics. You can study the hardness, texture and pattern of the grains on many of these at your local Lowe's or Home Depot... look at the baseboard moulding and raw solid wood plank shelf aisles. IKEA does use all real wood and composites, and their wood veneer is real, covered with a waterproof, tough polyurethane stain or paint (not too tough for my cat's claws, though). Their low end lines have a foam or composite wood core, but the better stuff uses solid joined planks throughout. Long time listener first time commenter.

Finally watched this build (late, oops) but as someone with severe anxiety, I feel the listening to one album on repeat. have been told it's because it is familiar and comforting and my anxiety likes that (I'm the same way with movies, too) .. build is also stunning! do agree, like the boho vibes
When I took woodshop in high school we had to learn how to identify different types of wood by like colour, texture, and smell. I don't remember it though.

I love houses with lots of big, ceiling and floor-reaching windows. It would have excellent lighting and ventilation(for a tropical country, it's a great choice, methinks)

I'm really excited for this new pack, I've been counting down the days until the Sims team finally releases it > - < Watching simmers create houses with the early pack materials has been giving me inspiration for builds I want to try, so thank you for sharing your houses :D
I think the mix of woods and cloth patterns work well for an older house; if a family has been in a house for a long time, it makes sense that there would be a mix of antiques handed down and newer pieces that may not match. It also has a more lived-in feel, like some blankets were handmade when certain fabrics were available, etc. While I get wanting things to match for the aesthetic, even now not everyone has the money to buy matching sets of furniture. It feels more realistic to me. :)
