- In this installment I completely restore a Pfaff 1245. These are super machines and they check all the right boxes. Compound feed walking foot, Big bobbin and German quality.
As a bonus I will show how to load the bobbin, how to thread the machine, tension assembly and adjustment.
Many ask what solvent I use. I use Diesel Fuel with a respirator and a well ventilated outdoor shop with no open sparks or flames. I think kerosene may be a more accepted solvent but that is my Missouri upbringing showing up.
I buy all my equipment and these industrial sewing machines myself and so anything you do to help is appreciated.

Thanks Everybody for checking out my video! I really appreciate all the support that I get from you guys.
Alexander Dyer Hi thanks for the video. Can you u tell me what you use in the spray bottle to clean them please.
Thank you for your video. I like it so much. 1245 is one of the best maybe the top flat heavy machine ever built! I am renovating 3 of them at the same time, so it was interesting to watch.
Diesel Fuel with a respirator and a well ventilated outdoor shop with no open sparks or flames.
Alexander Dyer thankyou

This is so impressive, cannot believe how easy you make taking something apart & putting it back together look. AMAZING, you have a great mind.
THANK YOU!! I've searched off and on for days and you are the only person to DEMONSTRATE actually cleaning a machine with kerosene. (Or, in diesel LOL!) I have a Pfaff 230 I'm working on. Your video is a life saver. And better than the last 5 movies I've watched. Thanks again!
🌸🌸🌸
The 1245 was my very first sewing machine. I bought it in 1980. I still have it. She lives in my workshop. But I almost never use it.I used her every single day for over 30 years. She has made miles and miles of stitches. She deserves to sit in all her glory. Truly my favorite machine. Thanks for making this video I thoroughly enjoyed it.
That is awesome @Al Bane and thanks for all you have taught me. I have watched many of your videos. Pay it forward.
I'm learning how to service all brands of sewing machines so your videos are going to be so helpful. Thank you so much!!!
You are truly a wizard, being able to take apart and reassemble these complex mechanical machines. Thanks again for this great demonstration. I appreciate your work very much! Thank you!
Oh wow! She’s like an old lady, coming out of a beauty salon: Not ridiculously new, but totally refreshed and relieved of stress 😉
Great job, regards from Germany 🇩🇪
Beautiful machine and the sound it makes is perfection!
So soothing to watch, I choose this over anything on TV. Thanks for making the videos.j
I like these vintage machines, I got interested when my Grandmother gave me her old singer. I used that experience later in life when I got a job sewing leather seats for Honda and Jeep! The modern machines sound like gattlin guns when you step on the pedal! LOL!
Nice grandma!
Sweet little lady! Thank you!
You’re a wonderful teacher, I learn more watching your videos 2 or 3 times. Thank you.
You are so skilled, experienced, and talented. Thank you!
So my little old pfaff 260 doesn't even feature on your radar !!! I love it !!! Keep up the Excellent work !!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I just scored an old Pfaff wheel feed post bed that needs a serious clean. Thanks so much for your guidance.
Using the muffin tin for small parts assemblies is a stroke of genius. Bravissimo!
Thanks for the information and the quick reply. After watching your video on servo motors I Plan to order the one you recommend, through though your link. I had no idea that they were that affordable.
Thanks
Thanks alex for another great video on walking foot machines. You are a super MASTER on this subject.
Thank you,I appreciate this .You have skillfully hands. I also repair my sewing machine. Good luck.
No one takes care to learn but I do love wach your hands working the old machines

Wow! I can see a lot of reasons why a tear down and clean like that needs to be done by a profession like yourself!

Thanks for uploading this important video.
These were good reliable sewing machines we had the twin needle version with needle bar transport .
Great job. That walking foot sure comes down with a lot of authority. The only issue with me taking things apart like this is the extra bits left at the end. All the best
😂 🤣😂😅😂☺️😛
🤣🤣🤣🤣taking photos helps
Holy smokes! You disassembled it as if you invented the machine! You’re a genius. 👍🏻👍🏻👏👏
I Could not believe how it shines too! Like brand new. 👍🏻👍🏻

Thinking about buying a Pfaff 1245 don't know too much about the machine would you say it a good or a great machine? I also wander if buying parts would be difficult.
$1 Muffin tin. Good buy! ;) - Great vid. Thanks for sharing! You are a talented man.
You have a sharp eye for a bargain. Thank you much.
I just found your channel and I’m thrilled!
Welcome😀
Працюєм на такій машинці 20 років, Вона супер, працює безвідказно
Excelente trabajo y trabajan muy bien esas maquinas
amazing !!
reminds my machine duerkopp adler 267, very similar mechanisem and operating parts
German 🙂👍
AAAAhhhhh I was too impatient Looks like Haas Parts Wash.. But still having a tuff time finding a service manual. I have an instruction manual on the way but I hear there is a differenced. It's. labor day weekend. Have a nice one
Tenho o maior respeito por máquinas Pfaff, a minha tem mais de 70 anos, ñ vendo e ñ troco, obrigada pela dica de manutenção
Bom dia!
A minha máquina deixada por herança ainda funciona normalmente, eu a amo, ela tem todo meu respeito. Agradeço a vocês pela grandiosa atenção! Obrigada!
Good sewing machine.
Good job.
I Agree. Thank you.
man you do nice work al. great video.
Nice work! Lots of parts, I would definitely lose them or put them them in the wrong place!
I bet them muffins taste great!! Nice video!!
This is the first time I've seen the proper thread routing for this machine on youtube
I get lucky every once in a while.😌
Alexander, you’re too modest.
Great video... thank u for the time spent... I’ve been instructed to not thread over the the pin on the tension discs ... but Ive heard the opposite.... not sure who was right....
I too have seen both ways and I have used both methods. I have threaded so many machines that I believe the recommendation varies among manufacturers but I can't be sure. I have found that both methods work for me regardless of which one is "right". I talk a little about multiple thread paths in this video that you may find of interest. Thanks for your comment. czcams.com/video/BBZX6swwSa0/video.html
Well, just some little cleaning here and there. 😁 The real deal would be taking everything apart to the last piece, clean from A to Z thoroughly until it shines like brand new, reassemble and then we talking. 😎 However, that sewing machine is a BEAST!
You do you.
Excellent video!
Thanks!
Parabéns pelo seu trabalho 👍👍 muito bom nota 10000
Thanks
Brilliant!
Eline sağlık usta güzel olmuş
That's a fantastic video - thank you! I was just gifted a Pfaff 1245 and am going to be watching this video a lot. Question: When initially cleaning the exterior and parts, what are you using in the spray bottle - light oil? A solvent of some type? Some of the aqueous based parts cleaner you show later in the video?
GIFTED?! How the hell did you get that kind of luck?
Good job 👍
I’ve got into vintage domestic machines, and restoring them and started sewing. I’m thinking of getting an industrial machine. I enjoyed this video. I wish you would have narrated what you were doing while filming as I would have understood the process better. I’ve caught some of your other videos and enjoyed them too
I narrate some and go for these ambient sounds on others. These style videos are actually more challenging for me to make than the narrated ones. Learning takes many forms and if you are curious you will watch again until you can figure out what it is that is alluding you.
I liked the video. Reminded me restoring a singer 403 recently. All scrubbed down and relubricated. I watched some of your videos more then once
Thanks for your vid. It’s a big help to a learning operator. I have a pfaff 145 p 6c. The machine is old but still running good. The guide for needle bar and front walking foot is getting sloppy with the walking foot. Do you know a good parts vendor?
Merci beaucoup pour cette vidéo
Alexander Dyer,
I have a Union Special 61900 JZ that is missing the oil pan. Is there anything special about the oil pan or will any pan that fits suffice?

Deus abençoe a cada passos de sua vida e lhe der sabedoria e a paciência. Abraço...Brasil
Essa máquina é ótima.
Great video
Excellent.
Just my opinion, I think you should have taken the entire machine apart and then cleaned every part. Every bearing surface should have been polished to a mirror shine. The bearings should have been checked possibly replaced and so on. JB weld most likely want hold plastic together for very long so, you'll have do that work over. Maybe you could have cut threads in the oilier box and added a threaded tube coupling or just made a new oilier box or, ordered one from a supplier. You did a fine job putting this video together. Thank you for your time.
Thank you for your opinion James Kennedy. Come back often.
Отличная работа!
🙂
Good work
Hola excelente tutorial, saludos desde México 👵👵👵👵🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲?

great work
Thank you! Cheers!
I have a Pfaff 28-2, extremely old but I love it. Someone of this team has or know how can I get the Pfaff 28-2 work manual?
Que máquina incrível
Great video. I've watched it several time. amazing work. I have a 1903 Pfaff 1245 do you still refurbish these machines?
Great Vid, Thanks for posting.

thank you
Good job
Selamun aleyküm hayırlı sabahlar çok güzel paylaşim olmuş eline emeğine sağlık ☕🎁🔔👈
Exelente vídeo me encanto!!
Thank you.
Wow can't tell you how much I loved the video...and the sound! The brushes, the tools, the gears...simple yet amazing. I have the first Pfaff electronic home machine, the 1475 from 1985-ish. It's an all metal casting and made in 'West Germany.' Nothing sews like a Pfaff. Too bad the company exists now in name only, really, being applied to hybrid Husqvarna Viking machines made in China. :/ The Pfaff factory in Germany is now a shopping center. Sad. People don't value quality anymore. The last European sewing machine is Bernina, and only their top end machine and longarms are made in Switzerland, the rest are made in Thailand.
Thanks and I too prefer older home machines that are all metal. Don't despair because there are still people who value quality like me and you. It is the corporations that value profit over quality and everything else.
The Pfaff Factory for these industrial machines was in Kaiserslautern Königstraße 154, I worked there from 1981 till 1992 including my apprenticeship there, good times! I worked in the assembly place and also made 1245s! So your Video brings back memorys! These machines were assambled not in line, they were pretty much assembled completely by one person, from empty housing to a working machine, then went to the place where they where tested, after that mounted on their table, electric stuff was done and after attaching small parts like tools etc. sent to the customer. Almost each part was made in the Kaiserslautern factory, back in that time about 5500 People worked there. Today there is a smaller new built factory near Kaiserslautern, most parts come from China, about 200 People work in that place, sad, really sad.
household machines where made since 1957 in Karlsruhe-Durlach when Pfaff bought the Gritzner und Kayser Company till 1999 when that factory was sold
Here the Kaiserslautern factory: czcams.com/video/SapiBRRTFRA/video.html
Fantastic sewing machine Pfaff 1245. The Pfaff 1245 sewing machine is designed to sew leather, leather and thicker fabrics. And is it applied to make scholarships in general? In terms of durability, is it a durable and resistant machine? Are parts still on the market for replacement?
Yo tenía una máquina parecida a está y son buenas para el trabajó
Found one of these for sale for 600 ,ad says it needs timed and adjusted .... dont know if its a deal or not . Looking to sew wallets and handbags ...
hermoza maquina... semi industrial
Es industrial-industrial. Semi son tus neuronas.
hola alexander que liquido utilizas para la limpieza de tu maquina pfaff ?
Love this machine! Worked as a sewing machine mechanic for a while and completely fell in love with this model for how easy it is to work with. You don't happen to sell any of your machines do you??
I sold this one but they don't come along too often.
Hello Great Video, I have a western german 545 similar that was passed down to me from my family that I use everyday in my Canvas company. I am having little dots appear on clean material from my machine needing a clean. What is the solution your using to scrub machine? Thanks
