LYRICS:
Reynolds wrap on rabbit ears
TV trays, back in the day we watched The Wonder Years
Old Wagoneer, wood panel doors
We wore out our own jeans, they weren't faded from the store
And that old couch, we'd pull the cushions off
If we found fifty cents
We'd go crazy, we thought we were rich
One-bathroom sink, we’d all take turns
Once a week, go out to eat for pizza after church
And that old church, red carpet floors
Same old navy paisley tie daddy always wore
And we'd sing hymns they’d pass the plate when it was time to give
They'd put in a twenty, I thought we were...
Rich
We didn't have it all but we all we thought we did
And Mama always said that we were blessed and I believed her
Never thought the grass was greener
On the other side of our old chain link fence
Yeah we were rich
I never saw New York, never took a plane
Once a year we drove out to the nearest KOA
And we'd light a fire, stare at the stars
And play flashlight tag with the people in the tent there next to ours
Time of our lives
We had as much as all the other kids
Maybe that's why we thought we were…
Rich
We didn't have it all but we all we thought we did
And I remember Mama sayin we were blessed and I believed her
Never thought the grass was greener
On the other side of our old chain link fence
Yeah we were rich
Got a few more dollars in my pocket
Since the day I left that cotton town
Back there they all think I made it
But God knows I'd trade it
For everything that we had in that house
Cause we were rich
Yeah we were..
Rich
We didn't have it all but we all we thought we did
And Mama always said that we were blessed and I believed her
Never thought the grass was greener
On the other side of our old chain link fence
Yeah we were rich
Yeah we were rich....

I never knew we were poor. Money wasn't everything to us back then. Life was more about friends and family. Mama always had a good meal on the table. We had a roof over our head, and clothes on our backs. Food shelter and clothing. It's all you really need in life. Love makes you rich.
Almost forgot to mention. Columbia, Tn, where this video was made, is my hometown. Glad to see a hometown young lady rising to the top, and featuring our small town in her video.
❤️❤️😭😭 Love this.
i love you. I guess that makes me rich. lol
Being rich is not about money its about LOVE and FAMILY...
@@holygrail9294 I love you, Maria.
Holy shit it’s refreshing to hear real country music.
Totally agree!
if you think this is country, you havent heared 'real' country. although this is nice
Agreed. In the words of Hank Williams Jr. and Vince Gill, “There’s one too many dime store cowboys, muscled up in a cowboy hat.”
I keep listening to this song... over and over. It makes me teary-eyed and homesick. It also makes me feel good about where I came from and makes me want to go back there. I just can't get enough of it. Thank you, Runaway June for giving us all this gift. It's a beautiful song!!
Why does this make me want to cry? This seems so nostalgic and makes you remember a simpler time. I feel like so many people today are worried about being bigger and better, but you really don't need a lot to be happy if you look at the little things like this. Makes you realize how fast the world is changing.
Because back in the 70 and 80s it was a simpler time to be honest with you and these girls captured it well.
@@redneck1st555 agreed
because, things were always simpler as the each day goes by...no iPhone or internet. when you spoke it was mostly face to face. not like this.
And go to the store with 50 cents and come home with all kinds of candy
It makes me cry. Definitely nostalgic. Makes me appreciate my childhood and my parents. Family is everything.
We were a family of ten in a small mining community in the hills of eastern Kentucky. My father was a coal miner until the mines closed. After that, there was little money and my father abandoned us. My mother, full of faith and loving her family, took care of us: three meals a day, mostly biscuits, gravy, eggs from our own chickens, cornbread, fried potatoes and pinto soup beans; clean -- albeit patched -- clothing; and all of the love that a mother could give her eight children. All the years of poverty were filled with our love for each other and so we thought little about the lack of money as my mother struggled and succeeded in seeing us all through to adulthood. We never thought of being poor, only of respecting and loving one another, and others.
"Living in the love of the common people..." ...A favourite song in my childhood days.
This is country music at its finest storytelling it's the core heart of country music this sounds more country than anything played on country radio right now
true. it is just great
Amen
Most country songs today are basically people just bragging about how "country" they are and going on and on about cowboys and tailgate parties and whatnot, with fake thick southern accents. I miss the country when it was just about telling stories. No politics. No posturing.
@@AngryKittens yeah too much of today's country music compared to 20 plus years ago is like comparing RAP to 70s rock.
Still kind of cookie cut.. But it is better than most. I am into a little deeper country sound. Good lyrics though.
It is so crazy how it is so easy to relate to their songs.
thats the beauty of country music. 3 chords and the truth.
Sounds like a country song to me 3 chords and the truth👍
Yeah, umm, crazy

My Childhood in a song❤❤
You have NO idea how much this resonates to my childhood....we lived on a small farm, walked 1/4 mile to the bus stop, and those were the BEST years of my life. Sunday after church, we'd go to my cousin's house and have dinner...my daughters look down on me for the life I came from, but I wouldn't trade it for the world...
Same here. This describes my childhood exactly. We weren't poor but we definitely WERE NOT rich. But we never knew any better. Walked home from school every day to our 88 acre farm. Mom and dad had their own business, and worked very hard to give us an incredibe childhood. Then we worked the farm mornings and weekends. It was FUN! Our old country house had no air conditioning, we had 1 bathroom for mom and dad and us 5 kids, you could hear the coyotes at night howling in the fields. We had 2 fun little dogs. That old farm house was not much but it was home! You could sometimes feel the wind blow between the walls from the outside. That wood-burning fireplace was awesome in the winter time. God what a great song that just brings me back to a place that I wish I could really go back to.
Same here, I'm almost 70, and I thought we were rich, my Dad told me when I was a teenager that we were poor when we were growing up, I thought you could have fooled me, we were Rich, we had a Mom and Dad that loved us, taught us so many things, we fished, swam, had picnics, fish fries, vacation's, great food , clothes and toys , to many things to list, but the greatest thing we had was God and our family. Now that's Rich in my book. I wouldn't trade all we had for a fortune in the bank, time with 2 Awesome wonderful loving and caring parents. Rich in love and giving of themselves. Thank you God and Mom and Dad.
OK, so having growing up in a monetarily 'poor'' family this made me cry.
I didn't actually realize we had grown up poor until years after I had left home.
@Tim Wilde I want to see the song, can you post it here or is it to private?
Same, I learned as an adult that my childhood home was actually a house we just rented, my parents didnt own it cause for them buying a house was too expensive, and it was a large enough house and filled with so many memories and adventures and the landlord let my parents redesign and put up wallpaper when I was a baby, it wasnt fancy but I didnt care it felt like a lie, it felt like a dream.
Why hasnt this song TAKEN OFF!!?! Absolutely love this! Transports me to another time, a simpler, happier time and the smell of fresh cut grass and kid sweat! Thank you!!!!!
I came across this song pulling in my driveway & boy it took me back.. I came from a family of five and my mom worked hard & my stepfather worked even harder at night. My mom made sure we had a hot meal 6 days a week sometimes beans with all of the trimmings maybe spaghetti we ate chicken at least 3 times a week. We had rabbit ears on our television with a little piece of foil . We would play outside ( marbles, jackets, hop scotch, jump rope) drink from the water hose. Our parents made sure we didn't go without anything we needed. They made the best out of what we had and we didn't have time to notice what we didn't have!!! All we knew was we were loved and everything was done with love.
What a beautiful song by some gorgeous ladies! Beautiful lyrics that speak to your soul! I’m honored to say that most of video was filmed in my home town and the rest of it in a neighboring town .The ladies are tremendous!
You guys thought you were rich because you were rich in love and that’s all you need in this world! You could be completely broke with money and still feel rich because you have all the family and love one could need! That’s what I think about everyday and thank the good lord above that I was blessed with such a wonderful family!❤️💯 Family is everything!
Hello lil how are you doing 👋👋👋👋👋👋
Our childhood in a song. We were in fact rich. I still feel this way with the friendships I took from our little farm town Village if Sunbury!! JAMIE & LAURA, you were the best things I took from those days!!!
Yep I always had everything I needed growing up a loving mom & a home so yes I was blessed thank you Lord for my family
I think a lot of us could relate to this song. It totaly made me cry it's so true. Missing my childhood hometown, my family. We grew up on what people could say poor but I never felt poor. In the middle of nowhere but we dreamed big, we had love, family and community. I have now become a gypsy going place to place not sure were I will end up. I mess the simple life, my family, and community and the people I grew up with.
Every breath, every minute, every day... My wife passed 2 weeks ago. We were married 15 years to the day. We were High School Sweethearts 43 years ago. It's all out of my control.
"We Were Rich" truly resonated with me when I first listened to it...it automatically reminded of my own childhood and it also transported me back to a simpler time when times were hard and uncertain but families still loved each other, and there was not a single trace of social media in the air or even cell phones. I especially enjoyed Naomi, Natalie, and Jennifer's reflective and sympathetic vocals...I'll never grow tired of kicking back in my cowboy boots and listening to my favorite beautiful female country/western trio!
Sometimes it doesn't take a lot to make some people feel rich and comfortable with what they have... beautiful song! ☺️
This is so true. Now that I’m older I went to NYC a couple of years ago (one state north from us) but everybody’s always shocked that I’ve never flown anywhere or did a whole lot. Same thing every year when I was younger and it never took much to make us happy. I wish I could get back to that mindset.
This is my abslolute favorite of Runaway June.
I can’t listen to this wonderful song without tearing up. You sing of the America I grew up in and how we treasured the simple things. Thank you for this beautiful heart felt song. It reminded me of better times.
I relate to this song so much.

Just found these beautiful voices! Im sold!
Well I agree with you, Hello Mary how are you doing 👋👋👋👋
Love this song! The music video and lyrics are telling my life's story growing up in the 80s and 90s. Living out in the boondocks, playing in the sprinkler, drinking from a water hose, swimming at a swimming hole at the local campground, roasting s'mores around a campfire while staring at the stars, living out the blizzard of 93, going to a small church, watching grade school sports games, and many other fond memories. We sure didn't have it all either but you can't replace memories like that. What I wouldn't trade to go back to those days when life was less chaotic
3 years later and I still have this song stuck in my head every single day of my life. I sing this song to myself every day. It means so much to me.
Refreshing - And such a lovely story in music form.

80s , 70s ...God Bless for memories.
Wow this song really took me back growing up and just how life was good with the simple. It may be why I desire to go back to those simple times. I am so grateful for all my parents did for me and my siblings. Btw the melody is beautiful and spot on.
I LOVE THIS SONG! HOW HAS IT NOT TAKEN OFF!!! LIKE
I was raised by a single mother from the age of two and there were nights when I could hear her crying from the kitchen table, wondering what bills to pay next. I don’t know how she did it raising me plus working two jobs and taking care of my grandfather at the time, But she did it so it’s with this song that reminds me of those days when we didn’t have much, it was the little things that made us feel like we were rich
Beautiful❤️ Love these 3 beauties❣️ Sending Dallas Texas ❤️

I love this song. I’ve been obsessed with it ever since Grady Smith reviewed it forever ago. Beautiful storytelling that shows the best of country music!
My sister sent me the link to the other video of "We Were Rich" yesterday after I told her by text that I was "rich in family." ABSOLUTELY love this song.
Love it!
This was playing on the patio of my favorite restaurant last night. Immediately looked it up. New fan today. 💓
Hello Sharon how are you doing 👋👋👋👋👋
Though I'm late to the party, thank you so much for the memories of my childhood. I'm a whole lot older than you young lades but you hit the nail on the head with this one!!! Thanks again!
Beautiful song, love the lyrics and the video is great!
great song and great video
We weren’t even rich enough to be poor. We didn’t even have running water. Had to walk up a mountain for it. . It was bad.. but, we had each other. And we are so close because of it. I remember the tin foil on rabbit ears that would bring in 3 stations. (If we had electric that month) Times were hard, but better. People didn’t have 50 pairs of jeans, you didn’t dream of “talking back”. Entitlement wasn’t a thing. Manners were.. social media consisted of talking to ur neighbors...I’m far from those days. I’ve done very well for myself.. having nothing is a hell of a driving force!!
I still don't have running water. I know how much that sucks!! I do have clothes though.. Because I found thrift stores where they have 90% off days... So I can get jackets and coats and pants, shirts and sweaters for under $.50.
Sometimes I think having so little is more fulfulling than having too much. Luxury seems to lead to emptiness so often.
Wow, this is awesome! First song of yours that I've heard and I'm gonna keep listening!
I just simply want to say thank you ❤️
Soooooo good!!
