- Xunantunich was once a great seat of Maya power in Belize. Today, it is one of the country's most accessible ruins, only a short distance from San Ignacio.

Ahhh this is amazing! I know this may sound crazy, but in 2019, i was part of the crew that excavated Plaza B at Xunantunich (the “new excavation” shown off in your video!
It warms my heart to see it after these many years away… we havnt been allowed back for nearly three years due to travel restrictions (covid obvi) but this video helped ease a bit of my heartache!
Whaaaat, that's incredible!! That means so much, thank you for commenting and sharing! I'm so happy you found our video, and that it was able to bring you back to your trip. It must have been such an incredible experience to work on that site! Such a dream!
And thank YOU, for being part of that excavation! It was such a cool and memorable part of our trip to Xunantunich to see it and find out that it had just been restored. We went in October 2019, and the longing to want to go back is REAL. One of the most magical places. Here's to hoping we're both able to return there someday soon!
I loved Xunantunich, you can explore it yourself! It was real fun to stand on top of the pyramid pretending to command legions of bloodthirsty Mayan warriors lined up on the plaza below you to go ravage the neighboring villages and gather fresh prisioners we can sacrifice to the gods after we make them play our rubber ball game.
which tour company did you book with?
We booked it through our hotel, the Cahal Pech Village Resort. Not sure what company they used to run the actual tour!
