one of the things I like to brag about when it comes to music, and the concerts Ive been to, is that Ive seen Nina Simone, Eartha Kitt, Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle and Diana Ross....LIVE in concert. And whenever I saw them, it always felt like I was watching the greatest of the great, doing their thing. First and only time I saw Diana Ross perform, was when she went solo, and started touring on her first album for RCA, I think it was.
And she was doing an entrance that is STILL being talked about today, where a huge screen is shown, with her in various poses and outfits, to the song "Aint No Moutain High Enough". And all of a sudden, she is shown on screen in a white-fur trimmed gown, with arms outstretched....next thing you know, she literally steps out of the screen and starts jogging down the flight of stairs, leading to the stage. My mind was blown..I will never, ever forget that moment at the old Capitol Center in Landover, MD....not very far from downtown Wash/DC, where the Kennedy Center is.

There has never been nor will there ever be one to match her. She is the quintessence of beauty (beauty of which talent is a part, but the word "talent" falls leagues short of naming that which sets her apart) -- beauty that never needs study; beauty natural and unforced and is itself a force of nature; beauty that no one with ears to hear or eyes to see (and half a thimble's worth of good taste and the least claim to honesty) could pretend to deny. Yes, she has worked for her career -- she has worked harder and longer than most of us merely dream! -- but that beauty, that all-encompassing beauty -- intimation of immortality, proof of heaven, and hers alone. What providence that she has shared it with us. And have you seen her children?? Good Lord! Who can argue with FIVE children like that? Seriously (and I am talking to my fellow fans here -- if you're not a fan, this ain't for you)! Anyone who doesn't appreciate Miss Ross need look no further that those fantastic children! And I have no doubt the grand-babies are maintaining the family tradition. And her sister! A trailblazer in medicine -- first African-American woman to serve as dean of a medical school! The entire family! Their mother and father must have been . . . wow. But I do go on. ;-) (Love you and yours, Miss Ross!)

Even after all of these years The Supremes Legacy is still iconic. We saw it with En Vogue's "Giving Him Something He Can Feel". Diana Ross was signed to Motown in 1961 when she was 16 going on 17. The Motown Charm School is still duplicated with The Popstars Franchise, Lou Pearlman did it with His Proteges, and with K-Pop. When Girls Aloud The UK Girlband decided to break up after 11 Years 2002-2013 they wore Red Sequined Gowns as though they were paying homage to The Supremes. Cheryl Tweedy's Birthday is June 30th 1983, and Florence's was June 30th 1943. Diana had Five Number Ones as did Cheryl as a Solo Artist and while Diana bussed Tables at The Detroit Dept Store, Cheryl worked in a Cafe.

Mr Gordy was seriously ambitious with great ideas. He didn't just want pop songs. He wanted to cross over and become mainstream, television, Las Vegas, and films. Diana Ross was seriously ambitious and willing to work her socks off. He could see she was serious, and thst she had the talent. Other Morown stars may be enjoying the parties, booze drugs. Diana would be on stage with Berry in stalls telling her to innuciate each word and phrase like his idol Doris Day. Martha Reeves said that Diana was the hardest earning person showbbusiness. One of Diana's ealiest solo televidion appearances was guesting with Lucille Ball and Shirley Maclaine. Two tough, hard driving professionals. Her segment was aquarius/let the sun shine in. She worked 36 hours solid to get it right.
Her hard work and dedication opened the doors to television, Las Vegas, and other lucrative engagements.
Her personal relationship didn't harm her career, and it helped the other girls get hits and make money. It is a bit like my fair lady and mentor fall in love with his protégé. People can hive upu opportunities, but YOU have yo put in the hard hard work, haveguts, talent, and determination. I am an enormous fan and have seen.in concert many knvluding last year. What she has created is unique. Just being in the audience last year in Birmingham, UK, with 15,000 people and experiencing the ❤️ was unbelievable. John Sivorn ❤️ ❤️

I harbored ill feelings regarding Diana Ross at one time. But it changed over time. If nothing else positive is said about Diana, you have to admire her tenacity, determination and strong work ethic. Aside from her having an intimate relationship with Berry Gordy. She had a lot to overcome. Her father did not approve of her choice of show business. She instead worked all the much harder. Her father incessantly praised her sister Barbara, who ultimately became a doctor. She also endured many criticisms among her peers about her voice sounding so nasally. She took all of those obstacles and made them a movitator to succeed rather than giving up. IN MANY WAYS FLORENCE BALLARD is my favorite Supreme. She had a powerful, operatic voice. She founded the group and chose the name change to the Supremes. A bit of trivia, the Supremes became a smash at the Copacabana. A major nightclub in that time. Their having such a spectacular review of their show and box office appeal at the Copacabana, ensured them and other Motown acts to follow the lucrative nightclub circuit. Producers were so enthralled with the"stage presence and banter conversation of Florence, they approached Gordy about having Florence alone star in a movie or Broadway show. Gordy refused the offers and did NOT tell any of the Supremes, not even Diana. Had Florence waited and endured Diana's departure to launch a solo career. She would have undoubtedly become the lead singer. Florence was on her way to launching ANOTHER attempt at a solo career around the time she passed. She was invited and accepted the opportunity to sing at the White House and was very well received. She just didn't have enough time to set in motion the path to launch a solo career for the second time. She developed a aneurysm in her heart. There is enough success for everyone.

Please provide a link that proves that producers approached Florence about a Broadway show..... I believe that is another myth cooked up by folk who try to diminish Diana by imbuing Flo with all these talents and by doing so trying to say she was a superior talent to Diana. Florence let her jealousy destroy her chances for a solo career. so that was one talent she lacked She didn't have the stuff it took to deal with fame....An operatic voice? give me a link to a recording of Florence that indicates she had operatic voice....have you heard her sing? Why is it when Diana received an award or some other honor people always bring up Florence....what the hell does Florence have to do with Diana's solo career...she was her back up singer...thats it...she had nothing to do with Diana's career so people should not piggyback on Diana to push Florence and her myth on Diana's fans...

She and Smokey Robinson have such a bond. When she was Eleven and he was Fifteen practicing with his First Group The Five Chimes that eventually would evolve into The Miracles she would watch him. When he was in The Living Room practicing she'd sit on the Porch and watch. If he was in The Basement she'd sit on the Steps but never said a Word. When she was Sixteen she cajoled him into getting an Audition with Motown. They Flopped but the Primettes as they were still known to be as The Supremes persisted. They signed with Motown in 1961 while still in High School and it took Three Years to make it and the rest is History.

Some folks were just "born" to be Stars. She was the Female Jackie Robinson of the Music Business. In many ways a Young Lady named from The UK named Cheryl Ann Tweedy had a similar background. She grew up in a Council House (A British Ghetto), her family had to scrape Money to send her to a Dance Program when she was a Little Girl, she worked hard and then in 2002 at the age of Nineteen she packed a Suitcase auditioned to be part of an Up and Coming Girl Group, she made the Group called Girls Aloud and she and her Four Partners had Twenty One Top Ten Hits, Four Number Ones, and Six Platinum Albums, and she had Three Number One Albums and Five Number One Singles as a Solo Artist which makes her next to Geri Halliwell (The Spice Girls) one of the most successful Singers in the UK. She's in The UK Edition of the Guinness Book Of World Records as a member of the most successful group to come out of Reality TV in the UK, then as a Solo Artist and Diana Ross is also in The UK Edition as the most successful Female Vocalist of all time. She was a Judge on the US Version of The X Factor who is now with Liam Payne of One Direction.
