Meanwhile Squad, that on superior Unreal Engine 4, still has logi trucks and Mraps with no working mirrors, while they are crucial and right in front of your face..
You guys are slowly beating that poor Torque3D engine into submission.

I didn't even think planar reflections would be possible in a game like this. The mirrors can completely warp and this tech usually needs a flat surface.
Was kinda expecting to have to wait until the game ever got raytracing, if it ever will, before something like this was possible.
So what happens when you bend the mirrors? Interesting.
@@RockyRacoon5 maybe that's why it's in preview? Cos the reflections don't match the mirror position?
@@existentialselkath1264I could imagine that you might just not be able to bend them at all, have them as a solid piece. That would be ok because they are so small, and prevent the need to have an individual camera per triangle of the mesh
I have a feeling that the mirrors are made up of multiple mirrors that don't bend or they just shatter if they bend at all

For each separate reflection, you have to render the entire scene all over again. 2 separate mirrors makes the effect twice as heavy as 1. You can only scale that so high before performance becomes unbearable and you'd get better performance with ultra high res cubemaps or ray tracing.
This is genuinely such an amazing addition that I think all of us have been waiting for for such a long time!
No other game would go as in depth as to make a vehicle have actual proper working mirrors. That is dedication for you right there that this is a pure passion project.

It makes sense that for now they’re only available on the semi, it should definitely be a priority, but with VR this game is fixing to be a super realistic driving simulator, we just need a good, native multi-player that allows for private servers and it would be more fun

do these depend on reflection settings or can they be independently adjusted to be high framerate or resolution with the rest of the reflections being lower quality

Nah, ETS/ATS have their own niche; the places and trucks they simulate actually exist in real life (they have the licenses from the truck and trailer manufacturers) whereas BeamNG depicts fictional places and vehicle manufacturers. (Real life manufacturers frown on their products being depicted as damaged)
@@digitalrailroader Also the long haul trucking of driving through a massive map. Beam is never going to be competing in that area.

i notice that the effect of these mirrors just kind of disappears at a distance. i'd assume that's to save computer processing power but not entirely sure.
