As a believer in Christ for 34 years, been in many different churches from the charismaniacs, to the frozen chosen, I have turned my back on it all in favour of the sanctity and beauty of simple God given voices that impart true peace and reverence. This worship inspires me to want to pray as it glorifies the magnificence of our great God. The Russian people have a blessing in this, and I say this as a Brit whose country is close to war with Russia, may God uphold these men and their voices to bring comfort in the evil days that are coming.

1:11 it is 6:30 am Sunday...waking up to my coffee with God time.
My speaker is in the the background....I found this on CZcams....
I just stopped in my tracks...knelt down...
And the tears just rolled off my face...
All the frustrating energy...the relentless challanges from work...family...the stress...
    It just left me...silent...listening....
    In the dark...
    Just sobbing.
    I felt a warmth surround me...and then...
    Peace.
    God works through your music.
    Across the miles...beyond borders..
....and finds a soul...that needs healing.
    Thank you for this.
Please share this with the choir.

@@sanderschatwe all live with pain and doubt. But God is Goodness itself. God is not easy to comprehend but we have a model in His Son, Christ the King. God does not ask us to be smart, wealthy, talented or landed. He calls us to be good and to pick up our crosses each day and follow him. The misery and pain offer an opportunity for tge goodness of God to shine through. Read about the life of Blessed Solanus Casey to see the greatness a humble heart can bring. We are all called to something better and that thing is holiness and Jesus will walk with us, the Holy Spirit will guide us and God's will can be done even in the midst of our misery so long as we cooperate.

Beauty only appeals to those who are disposed to love beauty. Those who perpetrated the horrors of October 7 HATE beauty and long to stamp it out. Showing them beauty will do nothing whatsoever to change their hearts. Many of Hitler's Nazis enjoyed Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and Chopin, as do I. So what? Did it cause any moral improvement? No. This imagined link between appreciation of the arts and elevating ethical values is a delusion, I'm sad to say, but it persists among those who reject any transcendent source of morality.

Although the music, which truly is beautiful, was composed by a 19th century Russian composer, the ancient text of the "Cherubic Hymn" is not Orthodox. It's from the Byzantine Catholic liturgy. Translated to English, it reads: “Let us, who mystically represent the cherubim and sing the thrice-holy hymn to the life-giving Trinity, lay aside all worldly cares, that we may receive the King of all, invisibly escorted by the angelic hosts. Man, this hits on SO many different levels. First, it's done in black and white. Second, I'd like to know when this was recorded. This church/monastery is very old, quite interesting to see the choir members wearing cold weather gear. Despite this, they are so on point. At the beginning, the bass voices are so profound. This is an amazing piece, huge thanks to all the members for sharing their talents with the world. The recording is so very basic but captures all the necessary nuances. Simple but so very effective. Wow, just plain wow.., this one moved me. Edit: One thing I forgot to mention, the dynamics! I've listened to this 4 times now - even more blown away. Man I wish I could sing.. I'm a musician but never could sing worth a damn.

I am flattened! Having never heard this work, or this choir, finding both sublime, on a sad, foggy night in a far-away place, and perhaps a distant time. But music is medicine, and I feel restored and wounded, both. Restored by art and and wounded by the knowledge that Ukraine is under pointless aggression. Both Russia and Ukraine deserve life. And art. Not death.
With love and respect for Russian people and culture, from San Francisco, a city that long has welcomed Russians.

Pointless aggression? Well, let’s admit that you either deliberately chose to ignore the 9 years of brutal genocide of the ethnic Russians in the Donbass (carried out by the Ukrainians) or you just forgot to follow the conflict when it started in 2014. Lots of you, folks, are simply ignorant. And THAT is truly appalling

I was always grateful that this city had larger and more vibrant Orthodox, Catholic, Jewish and Muslim communities than most American cities, which have long assumed that Protestantism was the default faith in America. No faith should be dominant in a secular, pluralistic democracy! Diversity, reciprocal respect and ecumenism are the hopes of our future. I want America and Canada to welcome more refugees from Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, China, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Palestine, Armenia, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Turkey, Venezuela, Honduras, Guatemala and Myanmar!
