At first I absolutely loved the story because it switched the dynamic between Zelda and Link and who gets their powers first. Normally Zelda and Ganon are just born with powers, meanwhile Link has to repeatedly prove himself to the goddess every single game just to wield a shiny sword. However, in Botw, it's Ganon and Link who easily get their powers while Zelda is the one nearly having a mental breakdown because nearly everyone around her, especially her father, is constantly pressuring her to "Just unlock your powers, forehead." Not only does this give the two an interesting relationship, it also gives Zelda a better character in the lore, for this incarnation at least. And then you get to the gameplay and you have to prove yourself again just to wield the sword for the second time in this incarnation. At least they didn't make it absolutely necessary to have the sword to beat the game this time.
Ive always seen the tri-force power as manifesting due to the holder embodying their Tri-force's Trait.
Ganon is physically powerful and was born into a position of power so his always presents itself early.
Zelda is traditionally depicted as being wiser than her age and knowing that Ganon will be defeated and peace will return to Hyrule
Link on the other hand has to prove that he is courageous enough to stand up to evil even though it could easily result in his death.
In BotW's case because the King kept her under thumb and making Zelda pray forever so her "wisdom" was stunted, she didnt know that Hyrule would be safe and peaceful, but then she knew that if anyone could stop Ganon it was Link, so, she as Princess (power) tried to protect Link (courage), because he could save Hyrule (wisdom) and pushes Link out of the way willing to sacrifice herself so the FULL Trifoce manifested in her to save link (its not just the left triangle that appears when she stops the guardians but the full Triforce). Since she now has the wisdom that Link will save Hyrule one day when he's healed up, her power is manifested.
Or at least thats my take on it anyway.
I'd say less testing him, and more making sure he's strong enough to wield it. Because if he can't simply wield it, how will he face the power that the sword is said to contain?
but… if link didn’t have to prove himself again there would literally be no game

I feel sorry for the king's and Zelda's relationship. He felt true regret and was determined to make it right after Zelda returned from the Spring of Wisdom.
But it never came to that.
Tragedies or small stories, that are side notes in the grand scheme of things, are what makes most of the Zelda lore what it is. Personal.

Haven't played BotW but the story is much deeper than I thought. Pretty hyped for Tears of the Kingdom now though.
BotW is basically what I call the "ultimate evolution" of the franchise... and of course TotK is just another chapter in that progression. Even though the game can be beat in just a handful of hours playing it normally, I put over 1200 hours into it just because of the depth of the story and exploring. It's more than just "expansive"... It's friggin MASSIVE! 😸😻👍
BoTW is fantastic. Its spin-off, Age of Calamity is really good and has a very interesting story. Not sure if said story will apply in TotK at all. Its most likely AoC is part of its own timeline.

You are doing an excellent job with a challenging timeline. It’s hard to know where to start when the game is not in order and memories are drip-fed.
Urbosa was the best mom. No one can say otherwise, and you know the champions became a second family as well to the princess. It's such a good game and a wonderful story. I love the video to 😊❤

this, is the coolest way i've seen to "sum" a game's lore. (Oh dear... i just remembered... Tears of the kingdom is nearby... and... theres also that ONE time... when zelda saved link... and someone decided to add time travel for 4 to 8D chess...)

Hmm this has become a bit of a habit but I have to correct Demise's curse with my knowledge of the Japanese text that translators like Sidier or LoruleanHistorian have shown me.
It's a curse that every demon is affected by not something exclusive to Demise or something he placed moments before his death(the origin of the curse is more ambigious in Japanese but Demise's role as an original source of evil has some importance but it doesn't prove that he is the creator of the curse/hatred though it is a possibility) upon the soul of the hero and the blood of the goddess but I think he did bind them to it or at least warned that the protectors of the world the gods created are now in the same boat as the gods:targets of the demon tribe's hatred.
Before the final battle he talks about his hatred towards the gods' tribe, after the battle he calls his hatred the curse of the demon tribe in Japanese.
He tells Link that it forms a cycle of death and revival(samsara or reincarnation) which we can see in many games featuring undead enemies(in Twilight princess Auru tells us about the malice of the dead which we later witness in the Arbiter's grounds/Execution site) and the games that take place in the fallen branch where often Ganondorf's soul lingers and waits for his followers to revive him(Malladus similarly is just a demonic ghost during the events of ST who returns by reviving through a vessel), every demon's/spirit turned demon spirit's cycle keeps going because of negative feelings, desires, ambitions, greed and hunger for power. Should they refuse to abandon them they will forever be stuck in that cycle, Ganondorf never wants to let go of his malice, hatred, vengeful desires, ambitions, Dark magic, power, desires for eternal life and dreams to cover the world in darkness thus he remains stuck in his cycle.
Demise also tells Link that the hero's soul and blood of the goddess will never escape the incarnations/personifications/manifestations of his and the demon tribe's hatred and grudge and that history will repeat itself(in the localization Demise implies that he will return instead of events and battles with the demon tribe repeating).
Demise's residual consciousness is then sealed to decay within the Master sword until nothing remains(Impa's duty after Demise's defeat was to keep watch over the Master sword to ensure that Demise doesn't reawaken, in the present era she dies peacefully implying that Demise is gone for good and as we see in other games where the Master sword weakens or loses it's sealing power Demise unlike Vaati never escapes or escapes to reincarnate as a mortal however someone's feelings can reincarnate even when their mind or soul is gone and the hatred and grudge of Demise is shared with other demons and evil mortals), Ganondorf and Malladus both share the title incarnation of darkness in OOT and ST and are both demon kings(Ganondorf’s main Japanese title in all the games he appears in, king of evil is another translation of it. He is usually called Great demon king perhaps due to having claimed the Triforce and sometimes he is called demon king of darkness), rulers of the demon tribe(Ganondorf’s connection to it is more obvious in the Japanese versions of A link to the past and Wind waker, his Gerudo form after his origin story and powerboost that lead to his spiritual awakening as a demon king is a demon form just like the boar form that reflects his evil heart) and new bringers of literal demise/calamity: Demise's spiritual successors who continue his legacy, Ganondorf being the most powerful and persistent one.
Some enemies like the blue bubble and cursed Lizalfos or Keese are capable of unleashing the hatred/curse of the demon tribe upon those that come into contact with their malice.
Here is some translations of Demise's speech and other mentions of the demon tribe curse:

oooh I just thought of an amazing way to connect this tale to Age of Calamity, at the end of it all, when Zelda and the Divine Beasts are freed, as the credits roll, we suddenly hear a little tune, a simple four note tune, from a little guardian

It’s fascinating to see how people have different ways of piecing together the story to BOTW. That’s an underapperciated aspect of the story that I love and love watching other interpret on there own

Man, you gotta figure every fourth kid is named Link in Hyrule.
My head canon was that since you can name your character whoever you want in previous games, the names of heroes from the old games were lost to time, so thousands of years later the heroes were nicknamed "Link" since the heroes are all linked (pun intended) through the spirit of the hero. (until this game which officially names the hero Link since this is the first Zelda game with voice acting).

In OoT, Ganon curses Link and Zelda.
The reason the three of them will forever fight eachother over the triforce, including all of their descendants, is the curse ganon casted.

For example, when I played OoT the first time, I named my character Alex for fun, so technically Ganondorf cursed Zelda & Alex XD
Like I said, it's my head canon & just for fun, I know canonically they are technically all named Link.

I don't recall Ganondorf being reincarnated within any of the canon outside Four Swords Adventures. He's usually either been killed then ressurected or sealed away or just killed. Twilight Princess, Windwaker and A Link to the Past being the only canon deaths I can think of. And then in Four Swords Adventures, he is brought back from the dead along with Oracle of Ages/Seasons, A Link Between Worlds and Zelda 1.

As much as I am LOVING Totk gameplay-wise, I do have to say that Botw is much better lore-wise.
I don't remember exactly where I read that the reason Link doesn't speak in BOTW is because it helped him take on the enormous pressure of been the hero. It's pretty sad actually, because it is implied through Mipha that Link was much more outgoing, that he had his own dreams, but been the reincarnation of the heroe sealed his fate. I think it was as a book on BOTW or on Hyrule Warriors

watching videos like this makes me realize that my brain always chooses the wrong pronunciation of words first. i thought hateno was “huh-tee-no”
If you look at the field of destroyed ancient guardians You will notice that the ones right around when Zelda burst the Cleansing light are entirely intact, They simply shut down. However across the rest of the field all of those ancient guardians are destroyed Turn to scrap Turn to scrap, That means that link merked every one of them, That knife eared death machine destroyed all those before he finally succumbed to his injuries.
Is it weird i feel bad for ganon yes he’s evil but having to repeat the cycle over and over again I’m surprised he isn’t worse than he is.
No, not weird. It would appear it’s in his genes basically, it might not even occur to him to try to fight against it. Though, in one of the games, his motivation was a bit more altruistic. He just wanted better lands for his people, as they suffered in the hot, dry desert. He’s methods left a lot to be desired though.
Let's be honest... Miphas words to Link as she healed him, those were marriage vows if I ever heard any.
