This is so wise and so true. I needed to hear this at ages 16-20 when I was looking for my “passion” and thought something was wrong with me, that I didn’t feel a strong calling to some kind of work.
I chose *not* to go to college, against a lot of family pressure. I graduated from two different trade programs, and currently work as a shop locksmith (part time now, as I became a mom 13 months ago!) I had goals in life, and really my passion is any job where I can work with my hands, and work with a team. Once I realized that it was so broad, that was such a relief. I can be happy in many professions. Just wish I had realized that years earlier.

Same i don’t really care about the subject itself, the job i do should be useful to society and i want to work with nice people/a team, no authority and not too much working hours. But how do i choose a job like that? Can you give any tips?

Sometimes it's really tough to determine what to do for the rest of your life. Society is pressing us, "find something, wow you are..... Age and have nothing to do? What will you dooo?" man it's so tiring! Im fed up with this, have we forgotten to have fun and learn already? Have we rotten? Ahhhh, but i hope we don't mind it that much, let's try to have fun while solving problems and dealing with issues!

Exactly, the whole idea of “the rest of your life” is so scary and overwhelming. Just try a job, for 3 months, see if you like it. If yes, try it for a year. Be open to new experiences, you just never know. Keep learning and growing.

@@edvh88 This mindset is particularly destructive because at least within the states, private college and trade programs means that "the rest of your life" is a realistic threat that most young adults have to live under. The option for flexibility isn't there because change is directly punished by not only wasted time, but actual money and debt

She's so right about passion just being emotion and emotions can be fleeting. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with already having a passion and going for it, unless it's something like being a career criminal or something 😀, h e r angle lends to mental flexibility and being comfortable in that flexibility. And, tbh, what's wrong with someone just wanting to work a regular ole job and just chilling in life? Maybe have a fam or whatever but no big desire than just to exist as is without chasing something "greater"? We're not all cut out to try to constantly be different things to ourselves or different ppl nor do we want to be.
Most of ppl's drives are based in ego, anyway, which is basically an emotion. Some have bigger egos than others of course and many seem to be aesthetics driven, which lead them to be shallow, narcissistic, and hollow ppl which is not necessarily a good contribution to the world. It helps contribute to more and more ppl wanting to be like them and copy their behaviors, and in this day and age of the internet, particularly social media where ppl can literally become millionaires just recording, editing and uploading vids for ppl to watch or livestream a lot of "nonsensical nonsense". These ppl may not be good examples to follow because of particular aspects that are fed to their viewers.
    Any, just some thoughts...

Stop looking for your passion. I think so. The passion robs my freedom, and it becomes huge stress for me. I think to do achievement doesn't necessarily need a passion. Despite this, some people say to me that you must have a passion. Also as same as your talking, I think that passion is a type of emotion. I don't need emotion because I will be a researcher.
It must only need to derive suitable theories and numbers. So I don't want to be told by others that you must have a passion.

Whoa...eye-opener...I just thought this was automatic for ppl...so I've always been the person who had passion but not necessarily knowing what to do w it. But I just kept going, kept doing more importantly, and achieved many things in my life. Now I'm 48 and in process of chasing another passion and I'll mk it happen as I hv all my other passions.
My husband on the other hand is total opposite, basically works in 1 field all his working life and has said he doesn't hv passions he just does what he's been trained to do and to be good at. And he's fine w that.
I think the point really is we're not all Michael Jordan's or Britney Spears where we knew and pursued that passion...some of us just wing it until there's a better, more attractive "passion" and now I realize I hv more in common w my husband than I thought 😊

And i found my passion in ten years of dairyfarming. Even though I'm not in the profession today. If people ask me what my passion is - I can answer wihtout hesitation: It's cattlebreeding, grazing and soil biology.

Er... clearly this person doesn't understand passion. A person who has passion doesn't need to look for their passion because its obvious what it is the them. Even from an early age a person with passion knows what they're going to grow up as. If you have to look for your passion you're a person that is just looking for a job they don't hate. Its not the same thing at all as living your passion.
