It’s important to note that there’s a lot of nuance with this. Not everything you dislike in others is a reflection of what you dislike/repress within you.

    • @HoshPak
      @HoshPak Pƙed rokem +4

It might as well be that you are the reflection to someone else's shadow, causing them to act up in your presence. Wouldn't be the first time I would see that with those who have authority over me and by that point should have done the mental work to be in this position, in the first place.

I was going to say that sometimes I am triggered because people of influence are sharing damaging/mean-spirited attitudes, or I am triggered by reckless drivers who are about to run me over while I am in a crosswalk, or countless situations where people disrespect safety or the law. However, I can be triggered when people say, "Excuse me," which is definitely me being whack.

Dive inward, recognize what you hate about yourself, write it down, and come up with a plan on how to fix it, I'm better at exploring my shadow through art, so recently I wrote a story where I went through almost everything I hate about myself then recorded videos breaking down the story, put the story and those videos all together in my video "Doomer Hates Himself" this whole process was very therapeutic for me and help me understand what's wrong with me, now I'm currently working on fixing it

sometimes its useful for you to hate yourself
part of Adlerian theory states that one uses his emotions as tools to help them achieve or maintain something about themselves; contrary to the popular narative which is : those negative emotions have some past cause , so point is if you consider it , you should ask yourself how you can achieve those same goals without using your shadow , or in your case, how can you stay creative if you no longer have a shadow to express?

Something I hate about others is how every time I try to hang out with them, they always tell me that they’re too busy to hang out. Either that, or they never respond to my texts and/or calls.
I’m not that kind of person. If somebody asked me if I wanted to hang out with them, I’d try to make time for them even if I was busy. I can’t say the same about the people I try to hang out with.

(I usually have to take initiative on everything.) However, my other group of friends are outgoing/confident so they actually hit me up to hangout and they’re always down to do something every weekend.

A good way to not take things personally when people are mean to you is to just realize that they are obviously going through something and have some issues of their own that they need to sort out. Just like you said, it's a projection of themselves. They are treating you like their mirror at home, in a way. I used to get upset at mean people, but now I just feel bad for them. This was a great video, Cole :)

I think there is something else worth noting: as you previously mentioned in your video about "writing every thought down", the human brain is a real idea generator. Around 6'000 thoughts cross the human mind every day. We cannot assume that every negative thought about others is a manifestation of our shadow self, otherwise, this would mean that we are secretly everything bad that our brain thinks of and our emotions get triggered by. That's simply not possible.
Also, intrusive thoughts are a real thing. We cannot start paying attention to every little thought and attribute it to our shadow self, we might end up becoming the monsters that we fear.

A lot of us men (incl. me) are emotional nowadays, but imho it can be fixed. It's impossible to shut down emotions and nobody should even try that, but with stoicism the point is to live by principles, not emotions. It's perfectly normal to feel emotions, but we must learn how to control them and not be controlled by them, like most of the people, because when being controlled by emotions we can make really, reeeally stupid desicions and reactions. Feel emotions, live by principles.

The insight provided in this video reminds me of that time in Naruto when Naruto was training on turtle island with Killer B and had to go inside of a cave to accept his “darker self,” the side of him that harbored negative feelings towards himself, others, and the leaf in regards to his past and how he was treated. After confronting and fighting this dark version of him, he then hugged his “darker self” which was basically a sign of him accepting his “shadow” as Cole puts it. It was a very vulnerable moment and this was a great video.

This video was well put. However, I would like to add a few things and some words of warning. Opening up the door that is accepting and understanding your shadow is like jumping into a permanent free fall. This is not something you can turn your back on and revert to your old ways. Should you try to revert this through repression, you will feel your shadow in a much more present way. The journey of accepting your shadow is going to be difficult and it will likely be a lifelong journey. It is going to be painful if you truly try and delve into yourself. You will find things that disgust you and will be painfully difficult to accept.
I would like to expand on a few things and issue a few warnings from things I have experienced as I have started progressing through my own shadow. Be mindful of ego inflation. This will burn you if you come across the shadow as something easily conquered. The femininity expressed in this video could be the shadow, but also could be something else. The Anima is the inner feminine side of the male and the Animus is the inner masculine side of the female. Be aware of these two things within your psyche. Jung compared the shadow and the anima/animus in this next analogy. If conquering and integrating the shadow is known as the apprentice piece, the anima/animus is known as the masterpiece.
These things I am saying are by no means meant to scare you.
Please prepare yourself though. Write in a journal the things you find while engaging in shadow work. Have someone to confide in about your findings. Everybody is different, but talking or writing it out will go a long way in making this more bearable. Keep yourself in a routine and keep yourself interacting with other people. The shadow can subsume the ego (your conscious thoughts) if you are not careful. Take it slow and be thorough. You will find so many benefits in doing shadow work. Listening to "Ending your Inner Civil War" by Carl Jung is a great place to start in this journey. This video can be found on CZcams and it is one of my favorites. You can pull something new out of this video each and every time you watch it.
I am not even two years into my own personal journey of discovering and understanding my shadow so please take my warnings and advice with a grain of salt. Just remember, you can do this. Listen to yourself and keep yourself grounded by observing patterns within your writing or within your conversation with others. I wish you all luck as you start this journey!!

Your videos are such a great help to me and they are a terrific resource to have on the web. You are a very talented man! Thanks for your generous sharing. Are all of us sometimes missing our English usage a bit, such as with comparatives and superlatives? (closer, not more closer?) Thanks for all your work!

Thank you once again for this video, Cole. I badly needed to watch/hear this right now. In my case, I think I have already identified one negative quality of my shadow self and that is the fact that I sometimes get envious of someone. I hate the feeling because I know I should NOT feel that way but I do. My main concern now is HOW do I actually "fix" it? What should be the "process" of accepting it as part of myself? Help.

The shadow is an interesting concept! Your feelings and fears always try to tell you something, even if we as a species often rationalise things .. which often makes it harder in the long run .. but not even biology is perfect.. perfect is just an idea and not real . Where the fear is is where your challenge are and what sets you free.
Our ancestors had to face their fears on a daily basis and lived very different lives then we live in western society. We are often as free as an animal in a zoo.. so it’s understandable that people suffer from mental disorders when we are separated from our true biology

This strikes a chord for me it reminds me of the book no bad parts by David Schwartz where he talked about learning and interacting with your inner parts. Gonna be mindful the next time I get triggered again
