Years ago a fella I know developed something similar -- an emergency box folded out of 2-layer coroplast. He promoted the concept equipped with blankets and other dry bug out things, and it folded out into a pvc-covered pram-style flat bottom boat you could pull behind you and keep some things dry. It folded out long enough to sleep in as a dry shelter. I liked it because of no seams to leak, and his 3d spatial reasoning skill for the folding ;) His idea was to unload a stack of them at a time, already stocked as kits.

I was homeless after I got out of the Marines. Not once did it cross my mind to stay in a city and beg for money.
I packed my ruck sack and went in to the woods. I hunted small game, caught fish, made a small Adobe Hutt and stayed barefoot most the time. I rarely saw another person unless I wandered to close to a roadway.
It was blissful and really helped me sort some stuff out.
If was suddenly lost everything today, I would be inclined to go out in the woods again.

I used molten candlewax and newspaper in a steel can as a stove. Anyway, yes, this would have been helpful.

We use fleece to insulate our foam pads from the ground and we also use fleece liners in our sleeping bags so you don't feel the cold through the zipper. It's better than a colder rates sleeping bag.

    It's a great design-
I can seriously see it being a Blessing to anyone who needs shelter or anyone just looking for a spot of serenity.
I could also easily see this
    in a spoof video of
    urbanites setting these out
in a park for the homeless
    like people putting out birdhouses
    or hummingbird feeders.
"Don't feed the ducks your stale bread....
    Feed the Hungry Humans instead!"
    Homeless does not mean helpless-
a temporary emergency shelter is not the same as long term housing.
ANYONE can find themselves down&out in one way or another...
It's only the details that vary.
Some are just more obvious and extreme than others.
I've seen plenty of rich people who were destitute in all
    that matters most
and poor people who were wealthier in honour than royalty...

wow, something like this should be mass produced cheaply. It's better than a tent. It would be nice to see a big business throw some funds to make these for donations. Great work Paul Elkins.

I have a recommendation either bales of hay that are tightly packed or bags of Pete Moss just simply stack them like bricks up on top enough to actually put some above it and I will act as an insulator in very cold weather you may not want it in the front of the door but the thermal rating would be very effective and I knew someone who took bags of peat moss and build a structure to camp

I shared your video. I have watched a few of your videos and have enjoyed. I saw a guy earlier in the news with you're same idea here. So I thought I'd give you kudos since your idea predates his by quite a few years. We need more people concerned about issues or at least willing to ponder the tough issues and imagine fixes.👏👏

This would work great as a single person camper that could be mounted on top of a truck bed or in the bed itself with a little adjustment for the wheel wells, or even placed on a utility trailer. Hmmm... I saw something similar at Hovenweep N.M. a couple of years ago. No, that was a tent on a wooden platform on top of the truck bed. Anyway, very ingenious, Paul. Thanks for sharing.

I'm really impressed with your inventions. With the extra length you can probably put a paint can wood burner in it and pipe it out the end wall, maybe? But they do so a black rubberized sealer called flex guard at tractor supply for that bottom flakeboard you were talking about weatherproofing. Thanks for the video, Happy New Year.

I have some old popular mechanic book. One has a set up for a dog house heater using 2 cans, one smaller (soup can) one larger (paint can). had holes drilled into them to let the heat from a 100W bulb out. but the double can prevented the dogs or humans stuff (clothes, boots, sleeping bag, etc.)from coming in contact with a hot bulb.
I have a 150W bulb in my open shop. (235 F.) Just a safety concern.
