If you read the posted sign, it says not to touch the reins. It does not say don't touch the horse. Why? They do this to accustomize the horses to crowds and being touched. I believe this is the whole purpose of this guard duty exercise. It teaches both horse and rider to stand quietly for long periods of time and to get to know how to deal with the public when they have Trooping the Colour, wedding and funeral processions and anything else the Horse Guard might be involved in. 🍃

If someone grabbed the reins they could potentialily have control of the horse and pull it out of the box and frighten it enough to cause it to bolt. The crowds of people around would mean some people could get hurt. I know these horses are trained and the soldiers experienced, however, there is still the potential for disaster. I know this is worst-case scenario, but why risk it? It's so disrespectful at the very least. No one would consider going up to a police dog and snatching the lead from the policeman. They woukdnt because they know those dogs are trained to attack. But these horses and soldiers are seen as 'decoration' but they're not, they have a military role to perform and shouldnt have to put up with simpering idiots who cant read and have a sense of entitlement.

The Household Cavalry is made up of the two most senior regiments in the British Army: The Life Guards and The Blues & Royals. Since 1660, the soldiers of the Household Cavalry have acted as the Monarchy's official bodyguards as well as being the public face of the British Army both at home and abroad - They are all operational soldiers, and standing guard at a palace is a ceremonial duty for a rotated period of time. (usually one month)
FYI the Ministry of Defense guards (in black) don't have live ammunitions in their rifles - suggest you do your research -

They DO guard the King but as a 250-man mounted escort at the 45-50 Royal and State events organised by the government.

These horses and guards are NOT a decoration and tourist attraction!! They are active working military army personnel doing their job on a daily basis to protect the Monarch. Tourists should obey the guidelines and show decency and respect or they shouldn't be allowed in!! But they do make my blood curdle with their clueless behaviour that is quite simply downright unacceptable. I think they should put some kind of fence around the front and keep visitors away from the area and courtyard before it gets way too dangerous and an unwanted incident occurs. They are simply risking their lives everyday like this. So annoying!! I really feel for these hardworking servicemen and women. Give them credit where it's due!!

Thee are 2 functions here. Crowd control and guarding the military installation. The Kings Guard is not equipped to do both. The Colonel in charge should put down his shrimp cocktail and look around and see the problem. He should correct it or be relieved from duty.
