      @BigMac8000 Před 3 lety +24

HypieTV is correct, but it's also deeper than that.
Azazel is a Prince of Hell. There's Knights, Princes and then Lillith the First Demon. They were considered generals of Lucifer's armies who were all subject to Lillith. Princes of Hell were devout worshippers of Lucifer - they believed Lucifer was absolutely right in destroying mankind in entirety to preserve the Earth. Though Azazel's personal beliefs on this matter aren't known, as he was hiding much of his intentions from Sam and Dean and thus the audience - ultimately his entire creation of Demon Blood Psychics was part of the plot to get Sam to break the last seal by killing Lillith.
Lillith was somewhat surprised by this, likely feeling some betrayal by Lucifer, and this may have been part of Azazel's plan all along, setting up Lillith for the fall by orchestrating the destruction of that seal personally. That seal was absolutely the most complex, and became his personal fixation - the rest it seems the angels and regular demons were orchestrating. Regardless of Azazel's beliefs in Lucifer, his agenda was to release him and his actions suggest either a want or need for Lucifer to be released.
Given Azazel's cavalier attitude, and a few key lines, we can infer Azazel at least empathized with Lucifer greatly.
During John Winchester's negotiation of Dean's revival, and his subsequent interment in Hell, Azazel makes a very telling passing comment.
"Oh John you're a sentimentalist, if only Sam and Dean knew how much their daddy loved them."
And he halts here, really landing the point.
HypieTV's original point stands here too - Azazel cared for his children greatly, and for their death he did seek vengeance - but cruel capricious vengeance. Not content with John's life, he took his soul, and persecuted the boys... he went to kill Dean the moment the Hell Gates were open, and he continued to manipulate Sam into ruin... but it's very telling that he was able to achieve this.
Azazel was notoriously vindictive to a fault - he killed Mary Winchester just for walking in on him despite the fact that she posed no threat to him, and like Dagon, he was absolutely merciless. Yet he managed to stick to a plan so well that even in his death it was completed.
      This is key.
The symbolism is fathers-and-children. Lucifer's primary anger is at God, i.e. Chuck. The symmetry here is key. Azazel is a good father - which stands with Lucifer's belief. Lucifer believed Chuck had wronged Angel-kind by creating Humanity and prioritizing them, and letting them ruin what was otherwise a beautiful planet and world. Lucifer rejected Chuck and considered a great indignity - something that they almost never got over. Azazel's agenda is revealed here to be coincident with Lucifer's in regards to fathers and children. The big telling moment is just before his death. Azazel is overmatched by John Winchester escaping hell and he is pulled out of the body he's possessing.
At this point he could easily have escaped to freedom - except he goes back into the body, being surprised by Dean Winchester and the Colt. He took a major risk here and it leads to his death - why?
To kill Dean Winchester, and get revenge for his lost children. Azazel's attachment, and pride, in his children tells everything you need to know. He believed in their superiority - something that Chuck never did for Lucifer. His overconfidence led to one of their deaths, and Meg's exorcism, and ultimately to his own death when he prioritized revenge over his own life.
This suggests his belief in Lucifer was quite devout. He bought Lucifer's story of being betrayed by God, and thus campaigned against him for thousands of years on Lucifer's behalf, orchestrating his return.
For reference, here's the line I'm talking about.
Oh, one last note - Azazel's character is a bit revealed, a bit, by his favoritism towards Sam. During the trials where Psychics were turning against one another, Azazel stacked the deck by giving Sam a dream, a dream which answered a lot of his questions and armed him for the situation that was coming. It was revealed he also visited other psychics dreams, "stirring the pot" but he reveals much to Sam and his favoritism of him is likely sincere. He mentions, "you caught me in a charitable mood"... he very likely favored Sam and considered some fatherly kinship with him.
One thing to note, Meg and his "son" were in title only, we're not aware if they are his biological children, or demonic children. Psychic ability is often created in people by feeding them Demon blood in youth, and they often "burn out" because of this power, it's risky. His "son" they kill demonstrated telekinetic ability - which might mean Azazel's "child" was actually one who shared his blood, but he might not have been the biological parent of the original demon. This is quite likely as noted by his near-sentimental treatment of Sam. The "I'm rooting for you!" speeches seem quite sincere despite being totally against his grain. He killed Mary Winchester and Jessica to "toughen him up" and while twisted, it's very likely he did this out of a sincere need to do so, whereas the other Psychics that were created seemed to have not received this treatment and were largely oblivious to their demonic heritage entirely and had few incidents involving Azazel.
This is speculation mind you - there is a character who mentions Azazel was devout, I can't remember her name, but Dean gets trapped with her in a crypt sometime after Azazel's death. She explains that there's a "Demon Bible" she follows. That would explain more, I just can't find it.
OH! I forgot one other major thing. Sam's entire life is being orchestrated by demons - this is revealed while he's possessed by Lucifer during the last showdown. His teachers, his prom date, everybody. Azazel was part of this - he's aware that Sam was shopping for wedding rings for Jessica. This suggests his tab-keeping on Sam is INTENSELY deep - this may not have been orchestrated by Azazel (perhaps Ruby) but it does suggests Sam's "grooming" was way beyond what Azazel ever suggested in conversation. There's a good chance Azazel's orchestration of Sam's life was incredibly nuanced, to near obsession.

There wasnt any reason to kill his mom or Jessica other than "they get in the way for my plans I have for you." He made Sam a hunter on purpose. That much was very clear. He even says so in Sam's dream at the end of season 2 "I want you Sammy, youre well- trained..."

@@grantwalter2243 He killed his mom because she interrupted, and Jessica to rile Sam up. Yes,he had plans for him,but he had no part in the actual shaping of Sam and Dean as hunters. Also why do you think that if they weren't hunters they'd just say yes to these random celestials who want to possess them? It makes no sense.

@@fenrizwolfbroodx5322 because everyone else did. If I didnt believe in anything supernatural and a couple ANGELS told me they needed me to save the world then I would say "yes." Also, yes Azazel wanted Sam to be a hunter. Thats why he also killed Jessica. If he didnt want him to be a hunter he wouldve killed John and Dean when Sam was a kid and secured him or something.
