I appreciate your channel. I know nothing of RV/camper life. I've been researching for some time and found my car can handle a Scamp 13. But that doesn't mean I'll know how to operate it! I watch, I get intimidated, but knowledge is power. It makes me happier to know that once I do get my camper I'll have a clue on what to do.

Thanks for the great video. We just bought a 2012 scamp 16 and probably won’t get a chance to use it yet this fall. I subscribed so that I’ll have this video handy next spring. Looking forward to watching all your videos to help me learn about our Scamp. .

Great tutorial brotha, was having trouble lighting mine, if you can get your pilot started and cant get the main tube to fire just mess with that slider valve for the heat intensity and it should light. Mine was at full heat and woulndt light but I moved it left to lower the heat and the main tube lit up as its supposed to! Thanks again!!!!!

Thanks again! Quick question, I know there is a pump switch to fill the water tank for the water heater. How do you know when that tank is full?

Looks like the same heater that's in my 1999. Works great. The only issue I've ever had was a lazy yellow flame instead of the blue jet-like flame. The problem was a spider got into the nozzle and built a little web. A common issue and one to look for if you have trouble getting that nice roaring blue flame. All it takes to resolve is removing or sliding back the slotted collar. I suspect there videos showing how to do it online. I'm curious to see how you winterize your rig. It's almost that time of year.

Great to know, I'll keep an eye out for that. Heres a link to our winterizing video we made last fall.

I've ordered a new Scamp 13. During the process/waiting period there have been changes. Some things that were extras are now standard or they have replaced one item for a more modern or efficient item. I noticed on my last exchange with my salesman, the "Gas & electric water heater-included," was changed to a "On demand water heater-included." Also the "1.9cf fridge" is now a "2.0cf fridge." Any comments? Thanks.

How do I fill the Scamp's hot water heater tank? I have 12 gallons full in the fresh water tank. Does the hot water tank get filled from drawing water from that tank when I turn the pump on? Also, how long does it take for the hot water to heat up?

    • @ourscamplife5210

Hey Joe, Good question. Yes if you turn on the water pump it will fill the water heater up and then the pump should stop when full. Ours takes less then 2 min from empty. Every time you use the faucet or toilet as long as the pump is on it will keep the water heater full, as long as you have water in the water tank. Keep a close eye on the water tank as the water can go fast. I've never timed the water water heater to see how long it takes to heat up but I would guess less then an hour. Hope this helps

@@ourscamplife5210 I did a test run while camping in Lake Scott Park, Kansas last week and it took 30mins to get piping hot water from the propane fuel source to the sink and shower. I went on a 30 minute walk and the water heater pilot and light had cut off....Makes me wonder. Once I get the hot water on, take my hot shower and then cut off the propane? There is still propane in the tank after cut off. Maybe the wind blew the flame out is my best guess.
Also, how long generally will a 20lb propane last to heat hot water in this way? My guess is if I put the cover back (wind guard), it would have kept going.
Thanks for the response Our Scamp Life. I'm a Scamp fan for life.

Turn on the water pump, and then open one of the HOT water taps. If air comes out the hot water tank isn’t full yet; when you get only water it is.

Is there a thermostat that turns the fire off when the water reaches a certain temperature?

We haven't ordered one ... but already I'm having a headache just thinking about dealing with lighting the water heater ... making sure the propane tank is on, or off ... that stove that also need a lighter ... lol ... I hope there is an option to simply not have a water heater at all ? Or if we must have a water heater ... I'm probably never going to turn it on ... (I think) ...hehehhee...
