Southsea in the Seventies. A quick Flash Back nearly 50 years.

A collection of photographs not seen before. People don't seem to be interested in the images from the 1900's anymore because they don't recognise the places. Anyone who was a teenager in the 70's will be familiar with these scenes which I doubt have changed too much.

I holidayed at Southsea from the mid 70’s to the late 80’s every year, at my aunt’s house on Eastern Villas Road. I loved it there and still do. I remember most of the seafront attractions from that time. The Hovercraft was always my favourite.These pictures now remind me of a lost generation, but I am grateful to have had many happy times there. Thankyou.

I used to ride the miniature train at Hilsea Lido! Dragged my family to watch proper steam trains at Rat Lane railway crossing, now just an industrial wasteland. Best memories of Southsea were going to see the Southsea Shakespeare Actors at South Parade Pier theatre. Magic! I do like some of the modern architecture in the city, but all the changes hurt. My mother was right when she said, 'Don't go back!'

I remembering riding the steam train. I was born in Portsmouth. Moved around the town and areas in and around Portsmouth till 06..then moved to Scotland with my partner. Portsmouth has changed since then....It's lost a lot of its charm since the 70's...It's trying to hard to be a modern city and losing it's character...Then again that's happening all over the country...And I feel it's not for the better.
