  • How I made Aemond Targaryen's leather eyepatch from House of the Dragon. I knew I had to make this as soon as I saw it. Eye patches are a fantastic leatherwork project for beginners as they are simple and require little leather, yet they introduce you to lots of skills.

The pattern is excellent; between that and the step-by-step instructions in the vid, it proved surprisingly, pleasantly easy to craft this eyepatch from start to finish - and it looked brilliant! It came out exactly screen-accurate - perfect for my cosplay!
I would just add this small caveat/suggestion: if you're looking to craft the eyepatch as something wearable, over your own hair or a wig, then I would recommend adding at least a couple of inches of length to each strap so that (once the buckle is added and the holes are cut) it is actually practical. I learned that the straps were rather too short on my first attempt, following the pattern as given and printed out! :)
Otherwise, the pattern is bang-on perfect, and this accompanying video tutorial is brilliantly done! Truly, one couldn't have asked for better!

Thanks for the feedback! That's a good tip about the strap length, it's a good idea to leave yourself some extra length and trim down to size after a try-on. Head sizes vary, (especially with a wig as you pointed out) & the thickness of the leather can also affect the overall length when wrapped around a curve.

@@SnappingDragon - this has proved to be such an incredibly fun and immensely satisfying project, and that's *absolutely* thanks to your pattern for the eyepatch (clear, concise, neatly laid out, super easy to make sense of it all!) as well as the above tutorial vid, which is just an *amazing* step by step to follow! It made me feel perfectly confident at every stage of the process - and this is something that I've never done before - but it never felt anything but easy and totally achievable!
And the end result is perfectly screen-accurate; I recently came across pics of Aemond's actual show costume and kit, and the eyepatch is just *chef's kiss* PERFECT.
Thank you, thank you **so** incredibly much for this! I am eternally grateful. :) (and now I have a new skill to add to my cosplay repertoire!)
