I lived in Seoul for five years. Right now I'm back in the U.S. with my family, but next year I plan on moving to Busan. I'm watching all the "living in Busan" videos I can find. This one was really helpful and interesting. Thanks!

Chinese guy’s (at the left) point is very informative and makes me think about it again and again..

"They think you either know Korean or you don't know Korean." There's no in-between. She is so right! I lived in Korea for five years and had this problem. I never studied enough to become fluent in Korean, but I knew enough to have simple conversations as long as someone spoke slowly and had patience. The problem was, I would speak a little Korean and people would start speaking quickly as if I was fluent. If I asked them to slow down or if I couldn't understand the specific words or phrases they used, they'd just start trying to speak English instead or just stop talking to me. It was frustrating and it made me reluctant to even try speaking Korean at all when in public.

It's a pity that most of the content of this video is them comparing Busan to Seoul. But I guess that helps for more visualization.

I have a question about language studies there : do you learn the language with Seoul accent or with the busan accent?
This could be a dumb question I'm sorry haha but real question tho

Thank you for leaving a comment. Curriculum wise, our Korean language course is aligned with the standardized Korean. This is because the basics of Korean grammar is pretty much identical regardless of the region. But to not further confuse students, even the teachers who are from Busan are still trying their best to mimic the Seoul accent here lol. Honestly I think you’d be able to tell the differences between the two accents and even pick up the Busan accent if you are planning to stay here for at least a one semester of Korean course.
