Just go with a $600-800 Frigidare or Whirlpool with the above freezer setup and single door, preferrably one an indented handle so it can't break off. No icemaker. No electronics, just turn dials inside the fridge. I just replaced one because it was starting to make weird noises, and that fridge was in the family for at least 15 years. Got our money out of it and then some. That one had a pull handle that broke, but dad DIY'd a fix for it, and the one I got to replace it, has indented handles and that will never break.

LG's new models are actually significantly improved. They were originally committed to using the Linear Inverter Compressor, as it really is a cool technology that, done correctly, could work great! The problem was, there is a piece inside them that wasnt manufactured correctly, and didnt cause problems until a couple years later. By then they sold a ton of them, and the damage was done. They have since fixed that problem with the Linear compressors, but it doesn't matter as the damage has been done. So now most of their new models use a traditional Compressor, with an inverter for added energy savings and usage. So they should be a good buy, and so far have proved it.
Also the Samsungs have gottne better too, specifically the Bespoke line has a very low problem rate, and ironically dont cost that much more over most other models in the same category

Avoid through-the-door icemakers. Eventually the ice cubes will melt and refreeze into a big solid mass that will strip the gears in the mechanisms that were designed to eject single ice cubes through the door.

What a GE Profile 7 years ago. Not a big French door fridge fan but that's pretty much what all the better refrigerators are turning to. So far so good. I haven't had any issues with it. Haven't had any issues really with any stuff. The dishwasher is. They have a sensor in the door that tells them when the doors open to turn it on. That sensor goes bad and they have to replace the board. It's a common issue which I guess GE has fixed pretty quickly but everybody that still has one of the ones that was produced during that time period is going to have issues if they haven't already.

BINGO on the electronics going out on that KitchenAid fridge with the drawers. I have one just like that. It started having problems cooling and the internal lights wouldn't work. I tracked the problem down to a little circuit board inside the left drawer. Just pop out the control panel on the top of the drawer then disconnect the cable from the circuit board. This fixed the lights and cooling issues for the entire fridge. The drawer still stays cool and only loses the capability to set that drawer to some different temp.

3 years in and my Samsung won’t make ice and it freezes solid so the fan won’t spin. I used to take a hairdryer once a week and have to keep in open over night after transferring all the food to another refridgerator. Even though this was a common problem all over the internet they would not stand by it to replace it. I would have to have a repairment replace parts on my dime. I’m waiting to replace it when I have enough money as I can only use the slide out beverage door to cool my food. The temp in the main compartment stays above 50 for three years now.
As a child we had a Maytag that lasted 30 years.

I disagree with the new Samsung bespoke series. They simplified the design and learned from past issues (for all French door brands). Like, don’t have the ice maker in the fridge,, asking for condensation and freeze up issues. The water dispenser design is also upgraded/updated to a more simple design. The Samsung bespoke also has easy access to internal parts, incase you need to replace/repair parts and are handy enough to do some diy repairs, like myself. I’m only speaking for the new and improved bespoke series,, all earlier Samsungs were not very good. But these new and improved Samsung units,, will be standard. Watch as all other brands learn from Samsung

Had GE from late '90 and still going strong. Top freezer bottom fridge. Cold af. The fridge hold veggies for 2 weeks no problem going bad. I only use setting on 3. 13 yrs ago evap fan went out. Replaced it myself $40 for fan motor from local appliance parts stor. That's it simple fridge without all the bells and whistles. Most of friends i know buying them fancy crap refrigerators with double doors and french doors only lasted about 5 to 8 years. That way companies and retailers can make $$$. It's a cycle.
