I just bought the Fiskars compass and protractor set. Compass is metal and locking. Came with spare leads. Seems durable. Protractor is metal. That Rotring compass is nice.

@@samiramian Hi again! I will try to explain with my limited english :P It is the little thing you take out from the bottom of the pencil. It has four small blades. Take a look here: threepointsofthecompass.com/gear/small-stuff-sketching-the-trail/part-3-mechanical-pencils/ (hope this helps) I don't think it is going to surpass the other sharperners, but i thought you should know it is there :)

I have a question, if you don't mind me asking? I have a vintage rotring drop bow pump compass i would love to use and have again struggled to find any sort of video/article for even using one. I'm mainly looking for info on the pump/pin part as I've not used one before and would hate to break it. I've noticed the long pin in the middle moves up and down freely. Is this supposed to happen or is it supposed to lock in? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I really enjoyed your indepth video. I was looking for a nice, sturdy and shiny compass set with an inkbow, will come in handy for my technical drawing endeavours. I have my eyes on a brand called 'Ferocious Viking', it seems to be quite good. I went on your website to see the equipment listed and was hoping to see that shiny rOtring compass that you were showing, I saw the rOtring centro instead which looks sort of nice, however, it seems to have received bad reviews about the plastic and how reviewers didn't expect the quality of rOtring, so I'm hesitating to order that one. I might just go for the Ferocious Viking brand.

@@samiramian Hello, I was browsing vintage compass sets on ebay and I couldn't stio myself, threw a bunch of them in the basket and hit the buy fast before I could change my mind XD. One of them arrived, it's quality is very very good, I was pleasantly surprised. I have lost interest in modern day compasses after seeing the vintage ones, I don't like the plastics on them.
I started with a modern Rotring and detest it. It's accuracy is appalling and its now held tight with tape! Brilliant video though and I learned so much! Thank you!!! Xxx
very welcome! with modern sets especially from the quality brands...I'd deffo contact them for replacements/fixed etc...I was so gutted.about my wobbly yet expensive staedtler...i had to do something!

very welcom! Yes to all tech pens being compatible, they are standard barrels. And perhaps Ebay maybe a good place to start for the universal pen holder... perhaps also look for a mixed/random set...and you'll for a few cool extras too!

And those are the only ones I like to use becuase they are so robust! For some reason, I prefer heavy-weight compasses because the heavy ones allow me to draw without applying any pressure on the compass. yess! I was complete clueless about this hidden sharpener and then someone else said it too and my mind was blown!! how cool is that...and it works!

That is a lot of effort to get that core out, and you can see I have two boxes of 2mm leads... so I think I'll leave them be for now!

I do, sometimes, irs a touch heavier so it's not my fave for general work.
