A watercolor Tree Swing for this Spring day! Perfect for beginners using a fan brush

📜On PAPER, I’ve used Meeden and Artisto for many years, and you’ll see me use one or the other in most of my tutorials. My Meeden paper suggestion is 100% cotton, has a really great texture and is finer grade. My Artisto paper recommendation is student grade, handles lots of water, (still good for wet on wet) and is a bit less expensive.

What a happy little tree painting. It reminds me of my childhood, I grew up in a small rural Kansas town. We had a huge tree in our yard attached a good rope and tire and had a nice tire swing. So much fun was to be had on that tire swing. Thank you for a lovely tutorial Debbie.
Hi Lisa, how wonderful you must have so many hometown memories. Some of my family was from Kansas, I would have to ask Mom where specifically. I have lots of old pictures on farms, tractors and such. When I grew up a friend had a farm and dairy, cows, I would always throw up (sorry TMI) when we played on the old tire swing! I did like sneaking up into the old barn up the old wooden stairs and sneaking the icecream and treats they had stored to sell in their dairy though! Im glad you enjoyed and I hope you were inspired to give it a try :-)

Thank you for the full tutorial. I don’t understand the purpose of shorts. As a beginner, I can’t pick up on techniques in a short.
I completely understand Dottie, I much more enjoy the long versions as well. I try to make a short form the long for those that prefer the shorts, although I get it, the long versions are definitely how I learn best too. I hope you give this one a try, so much fun!

Dear Debbie, love the effect on the Japanese Acer 😍 the fan brush is so underated as it's great for grasses, etc but it's also really good for painting fur on animals , not that I paint wildlife 😂 but anything that has fur or spikes even 😉❤️xx
Yes, I agree Susan~ I have a tutorial co ming up and I will share three brushes and how they can be used, and the fan brush will be one of them, many times we just don't think about it.. Great thoughts Susan!

Hehe I had to go back in my purchases and find the link for this little fan brush. I’ve had it for so long. I rarely use it, but it sure was fun for this and quite easy happy painting for and have fun.!

Hello. I have a fan brush but my bristles don't seperate like yours do. What can I do to make them behave like yours? Not sure what the problem is. Maybe I need a new brush. I'm off to try again. Like this very much. Hugs!
P.S. I used your technique to paint a back ground and was so pleased with the results. It really helped my picture. No more naked backgrounds! HA HA Thank you so much! Your always so much fun.
I’m so glad that background technique works. I use this for years in my paintings. I’m thinking it could just be a different brand, but I do know that once you get it wet with paint the bristle stew separate a little bit more.
